I love the suspence of your enigmatic persona. Your performances seem 'bequeathed' and live in some kind of dream state. I guess thats appropriate to your name. Of course this is only possible by the tremendous spontanaeity in your playing!! This piece is not only somewhere between Chopin and Liszt, it is somewhere between truecrypt and all of us. if you could go back in time you would do ones life differently. I in the past have given a fair few recitals. but actually they apart from a couple were pathetic compared to what i really would like to have been. for me fame is not an issue and having no money is better than going mad.But it is said when those that truly want to make it and have it can t. I really feel for them.
well... google defines it as: "someone who has exceptional intellectual ability and originality". I would also add that in our business an *exceptional skills" are needed...
I have (had) very good abilities and was somewhat "original". My skills are good but not exceptiona. We are all "original" and "special" in a certain way, but it's far from being a genius! ;) It's nice to hear kind words though! Thank you!
Im not so sure. Perriah and Schiff and well list goes on, I can not class them in the same league as Haskil or Yudina or Nadeskin for example. that for me is the gift that goes far deeper than those for whom the sheep flock to hear. As ive said before , leaving myself out as i was never really ready for this anyway and learn each year more so not a circuit monkey, but I ve nown some incredible pianists that now do nothing. Why? Wrong class, wrong motivation no money end of.
Whether one "makes it" is not the mark of one's genius but more likely of one's nack for self-promotion, for knowing the right people and for not stepping on toes etc. - in short, things that do not have anything to do with the quality of one's music-making or quality of one's soul. Examples abound of mediocrities attaining a media status & commercial success as "outstanding performers" while others, light years ahead of them in talent, remain in the shadows. Truecrypt, that was just lovely.
