The reason why Helen Shapiro was not big in the US was that record companies over there thought that British artists would not sell. Remember it took four attempts for EMI to get Capitol, which it owned, to release its first Bearles record - I Want to Hold Your Hand. Previously the Beatles' records were on independent labels in the US.

Helen was one of those rare talents that come along once in a very great while. Why she never became the sensation in the US that she should have has always been a mystery to me.
