had a childhood crush on Helen when I was sixteen! stayed with me ever since! a beautiful singer and beautiful songs. I,m 63 now and the magic never goes. I never need much excuse to play her cd,s .
Totally fell in love with both her and the backing singers just from the vocals when I found this in my parents record collection 20 years ago. I'm 31 now and just fell for them all over again. :-)
Helen has changed my life so much over night. I went to see her last night for my first time and she came to Edinburgh to a little church and she sang amazing voice i felt so safe with her. I have the most hardest two years 0f my life and she made it all better just buy talking to her and told me to keep going . Thank you :) i am so glad i went. `
if you have one bone not wanting to dance to this... WAKEY WAKEY come on stop playing with the daisies. This is just the tops! Thanks for sharing with us all. :)))
When this song came out and we first heard ít on Radio Luxemburgh we werent sure if it was a boy or girl singing.... It seems unlikely now but I remember the debate.
I think HS is the best british female singer of all time. Unhappy yours songs do not came here while I was a little boy. But when I firt time head she singing, I loved it forever. Greetings from Brazil. Helen, adoro vê-la no clp com os Beatles, o Brasil te ama, seja feliz,, você é imortal. Brasil ama usted. Brazil loves you, I love you.
i used to go to my friend Maree's place, and we used to play this and put it up real loud, and her mum would come running over from the service station to tell us "off" we still continued.. i loved it then and still love it..!!
Dude i discovered this song on a Beatle Wives Vid i love this song now its always stuck in my head and now my Sig on my phone is Walkin Back To Happiness =]
The reason why Helen Shapiro was not big in the US was that record companies over there thought that British artists would not sell. Remember it took four attempts for EMI to get Capitol, which it owned, to release its first Bearles record - I Want to Hold Your Hand. Previously the Beatles' records were on independent labels in the US.
The song peaked at #100 in the US and was the closest thing she had to an American hit. It's a mystery why Helen Shapiro wasn't helped by the British Invasion. She had everything going for her including youth and talent.
Helen was one of those rare talents that come along once in a very great while. Why she never became the sensation in the US that she should have has always been a mystery to me. This song has brought back some great memories...thnx so much for posting it! And if Helen sees this...I loved you then and I love you now, you're fantastic!!
Good record. Always takes me back to childhood and reminds me of Dr. Who (Helen looks like Carole Ann Ford the first Dr. Who girl). Keep thinking of posting some of her records.
Wonderful!Thanks. Ruth

She has a much deeper voice than Millie Small. Much more mature as well. And this is a much more serious song as well.
she is a characteristic woman
