  • Joni and Larry were married for a fairly long time. They'd just divorced in 1994 right before Turbulent Indigo came out.

  • Joni did look kind of aged for 42 and the perm she got didn't help- not my fave look. Hey, but what can you expect with all that chain smoking? And yet, she looks elegant and sultry. Very hip! Nice video, seeing her pal around with her 2nd husband Larry Klein.

  • Why is she dancing with Borat at 0:23?

  • Sometimes change comes at you....like a broadside accident

There is chaos to the order

    Random things you can't prevent

  • No hearts of gold

    No nerves of steel

No blame for what we can

    and cannot feel

  • Jim Brickman at :26??? LOL!!

  • Another example of a veteran artist trying to sound contemporary during the 80's. This is actually a pretty decent song, but the production dates it pretty badly. All the cliches of 80's music is here: digital drums, chorus pedal guitar, and the "ah ah ah" vocal bit is obviously a sample (sounds like the same vocal sample that was used for the hook in I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz).

  • Who's this moustachioed man?He looks familar. What a shame Michael McDonald isn't in the video.

  • @Aviva2121 that larry, the bass player and dude she was in love with back in 80s

  • @Frottagecub they were married for a while.

  • Wow, the same video director as AND SHE WAS by Talking Heads

  • @SoulstylistJukebox Very good. His name is Jim Blashfield.

  • This is such a cool video and song. The album that includes this song has been quite underrated. It is produced by Thomas Dolby, and Joni Mitchell's elegance is in every detail of this album.

  • Well I've waited 25 years to watch this video. Many thanks for the post.

  • wish the acoustic versioin hadn't disappeared from youtube. that was an interested glimpse into the evolution of this song.

  • This is an extraordinarily happy song and vastly underrated. Joni Mitchell rules.

  • By The Way, This Joni Mitchell And Michael McDonald 1985 Song, "Good Friends," Became A Top 30 Hit In America. In The Future, You Would Listen To This Song On Sirius XM's The 80's On 8, WXPK-FM's 107.1 The Peak, WPDH-FM's 101.5, Sirius XM's Classic Rewind, WAXQ-FM's Q104.3, And WRKI-FM's I95.

  • I Love This 1985 Music Video: "Good Friends," Which Was Sang By Joni Mitchell And Michael McDonald. And Someday, You Would See This Music Video On The Digital Cable Network: VH-1 Classic.

  • it appears her 1982 release was a good one too. she did good with this 1985 release. it should have got play on adult radio.

  • Once in a lifetime collaboration of 2 most respected artists in the music industry. Too bad Mike Mcdonald was not in the video. Still great song & this is in my list of top 50 songs of pop era. Ang husay nilang dalawa!

  • Never seen this vid before ....Joni at her best

  • Oh!!! Thanks so much! Been looking for this .....

  • I remember back in 1985 when this video came out, it was such a kick to see Joni on MTV, along with all the hair metal, pretty boy pop and synth/disco bands...this song (and video) remind me of my best friend, who lived in New York for three years, and what an adventure it was when I would visit him for the weekend and we would spend the whole night just traipsing through Manhattan getting into trouble and raising hell. Such great times and such a great song.

  • Ah... If you only knew how hard the evolution for her was. This was an album borne out of a suggestion by David Geffen her new label. He suggested that she utilize the talents of Thomas Dolby for production and unfortunately for her, she felt all the control she was accustomed too slipping out of her grasp. After much debate, this was the result. A great set of songs on an album that didn't do very well. But at least we have this, right, a perfect amalgam of folk and futuristic pop.

  • never knew there was a video for this. i bought this in 1986 while in spain, it was one of the few albums i bought without knowing what was on it and this turned out to be a good recording.

wish her 1988 follow up was good like this 1985 release was.

  • The video is by Stephen R Johnson, who also directed "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel and "Road to Nowhere" by The Talking Heads...

  • @rvlaar

I think you're mixing, as "Good Friends" is directed by Jim Blashfield from Seattle. He also directed "Leave Me Alone" by Michael Jackson, "The Boy In The Bubble" by Paul Simon and "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" by Tears For Fears". But the animation is on the same level of greatness as Stephen R. Johnson, Aardman Animations and the Quay Brothers who made "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time" by P. Gabriel. Jim Blashfield did however direct a Talking Heads video, but that was "And She Was". :-)

  • I love their voices together. Too bad that Michael could not also be in the video.

  • Why was he not in the video?

  • I know, that random guy is obviously not the real singer.

  • I think that guy was her husband at the time.

  • AAAAGGGHHH YES! FINALLY! I LOVE IT!

  • Well, at long last I see this video! Many thanks for posting it.

  • Love this video! Great song, great visuals. Thanks for posting it.

  • 1:13 LOL GOATSE

  • where is Michael McDonald??????

  • Been looking forever for this video......thanx for posting I LOVE IT!!!

  • My goodness! She really really had the 80s look at that point!...and yea, well, it was 1985. Shorter and curly hair suits her by the way. Too bad this never appeared on video. Does anyone have the "Shiny Toys" video?

  • Absolutely love this video. Thanks for posting it.

  • I love that this video is back on here! Love this album, it's so overlooked.
