I have COWON A2. Amazing product. Amazing Bass, BBE and other stuff. Music is a heaven in my ears thanks to that product + KOSS Porta Pro Headphones. As I suppose S9 is better than D3 because of that system Android system. I have seen that D3 has amazing screen but it is a little bit slower with this system :( Do you have some kind experience with D3 or S9 ?? Can You tell me sth about that ? Thx a lot

@Tilan123 nope, but why do you want internet on it? on most places where you can find free WiFi is at home and school (and McD :p) where you can find a computer. That's another great thing about this player, it's just drag and drop. And on the go you should use 3G on your smartphone.

I owned a cowon a2 for about a year before it got stolen. and I would have to say that it was one of the best purchases I have made. great battery life. and the best sound quality of any other portable digital audio player (DAP). alright i see all you guys here care about sound quality me personally i don't care too much for it but care enough to have an ok car stereo set up with 2 12"subs. and my question is does the sansa fuze+ have better sound quality than the new ipod touch? @310richard if you only care about music, i would suggest the sansa clip+. my friend has a 8gb. one w/ a 32gb. micro sd card and loves it. if you don't like the looks of that mp3 player, i would try the p3; it isn't that expensive now, but neither is the s9 imo. good luck looking for a new player :)
@m4tttc for the money. I would say the s9. because 32gb on the j3 is roughly 300 dollars while, I paid only 202 dollars for my 32gb cowon s9. the features and specs are roughly the same. imo. it's just the j3 is newer.

@nightfeather123 UI awkward to use - nowhere near the iPod Touch UI. Screen sensitivity is poor. Audio and video quality has no equal. Very reliable. Very few firmware bugs.

1) Can you just import your folders from your computer and browse though them on the player? Furthermore, if so, does it turn the folder you chose a song from into a playlist?
2) I know you guys said it's the best in terms of sound, but does that still stand up today? How is it compared to the sound quality of the Samsung P3? If it's anything like that, awesome! The P3 had both of these things.
3) Does it remember the already played tracks like on the iPod?
Well this gorgeous mediaplayer seems to have enought audio quality to compete with creatives X-fi media players .... too bad its hard to find it in europe =S
How many movies can i upload on the 16GB version? I dont know if i want to bu this one or the D2+. You can expand the D2+ with SD-cards. Thats why i wanna know how many movies you can upload.
bought the S9 the day it was released haha, couldnt wait and was definitely not dissapointed! There are some small issues with it but seriously, I dont understand why people keep buying the Ipods, the sound quality is horrible compared to this player and I buy a player to listen to music, not to chat on Facebook or surf the internet:) Btw, buy a decent pair of headphones, it makes a huge difference, I use the Sennheiser IE8 with the S9 and I think it sounds amazing!
I've owned D2 which i gave to my bro and went to S9 as soon as it came.I were pretty happy with it ! But one day my Pause button got broke and u can lift it up and my other button for changing tracks is shaky so i am trully dissapointed about the button quality.Cowon s9 is cool but i like d2 more for music basically not much happy of owning one.When i am back on the d2 sometimes im stunned by the great touch screen and sound compared to my s9.While the max on s9 is 40 on D2 its 50 :)
Hey everyone. new firmware update 2.52. Some minor fixes. Also just purchased some Denon C-710's from Best Buy and wow! If your an s9 user and need some good IEM's these are the one's! Still on about oh roughly 17 hours of burn in time. Still, these blow anything out of the water I've used including the Klipsch s4's, Vibe Duo's Sony MDR - XB 500's etc.
Really makes the s9 shine just that much more! AMP3TV should do a review on these IEM's.

I have purchased the S9 after going crazy about what mp3 player to buy. It has been 4 months since I have and it is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g I wanted it to be, and more.
Sound quality, the amazing screen, 251 games (for FREE!), movies and the fact that I can charge it in my car while listening to it connected to the Head Unit.

The sound quality on this player cannot be compared to the iPods, not even to the best Walkmans from Sony. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE sound that I was looking for. I have an iPhone and an iTouch, and I am not using them to listen to music anymore . The headphones coming with the player are very good also.
Just incase anyones stressing about the interface. The recent upgrades in firmware makes for a FAR better/easier experience. Furthermore, loads of user created interfaces are avalible, free, safe and shit easy to install.
The S9 is a REALLY good choice for an player. It's NOT a digital swiss army knife such as the touch. But it sure as hell delivers in terms of musical quality and video playback.

There's nothing major that we know of. I actually use one every day and it's never crashed or done anything out of the ordinary - returns rate is tiny as well (usually people leaving them to totally discharge over weeks, you have to re-set while plugged into power to re-start them at that stage)
Cowon S9 is better quility and better but look at the price diff. the p3 is great I must say for the price. Waaaaaaaay better than an ipod. but if you have the money this one is good
yeah, very good. The company quotes it at 55 hours of audio playback but that's under ideal conditions so every day use will be less (but still very good).

ipod touch owns this thing. The iTouch isnt just a media player but a full pocket computer. It's got apps, games ,songs, movies,email ,web browsing capabilities. I doubt this beats it in any except sound...
The cowon might be just an mp3 player(that's what your post implied) but the ipod touch isn't . Its a pocket computer-like device with hundreds of thousands of apps available. That was kind of the point of my earlier comment.
exactly, if your someone like me who gets bored of stuffs easily don't get this. its just a mp3 player period.. if it brags so much of having a better sound output than the ipod would they think a normal person would really notice the difference?.. for me its all about changing your stock earphones to something good. like bose, shure.. if you cant afford get a koss portapro or senn px100.. every mp3 players sounds ugly with ugly earphones no matter what it is..
well in linux some distro's have the ability to recognize ipods at the drop of a hat, others u have to manually mount the drive i was just curious if anyone on ur crew had done a test run on a linux machine......might not be a bad idea (hint-hint)

I would seriously consider buying one of these if i knew it was louder than my ipod classic. I know already it must sound better, the Classic is as flat as a pancake lol. But Capacity is always an issue and sometimes you Cant beat apple's GB's. Would you say the Cowon is Louder? and does it have an EU lock on it?
The way to get past the EU volume limiter is simply tell the player you're in the US on startup! When you do that, the volume just blows the iPod Classic away.
@evildead2002 - I have both a ipod touch, and Iaudio players; ipod sound is crap, sounds plastic, and no matter which equaliserfunction you use, you won't get that crisp warm amazing sound ypu have with all iaudioplayers. Yes, every iaudioplayer, doesn't matter how much capacity, they all have perfect adjustable sound!
I really do want one of these. That interface is just sexy, and the fact that it you can expand its capacity with microSD cards makes it even better, especially given how much music I have.
hmm so far all Cowon players use the DaVinci chip which i don't like. A lot of newer players now use Mini-HDMI connectors, and able to play 1280x720 and 1920x1080 files, MKV containers with H264 video and AC3/AAC audio with different subtitles support also. I think Cowon should update their S9 to be more up to date with the progress, maybe calling it "S9i" instead.
I personally bought a Ramos T11TE 16gb, i think it have nice features.
It doesn't have AMOLED nor Bluetooth nor scratch-resistant glass, but it's pretty good, able to play MKV files with H264 video with AC3/AAC audio and a lot of subtitles files types.
@RaptorZX3, that player is kind off impressive. but its a Chinese make who are unlikely to provide a good level of support like the cowon s9. My friend has the S: flo 2 which is also a Chinese make and the amount of bugs is just plain silly.
Also the fact it has a stylus on a 5" screen is plain funny in this day and age. But in the end a lot of us purchase things on preference and since u watch alot of MKV files it would seem perfect.
Also although they have new technology i.e hdmi, new chips etc, its hasnt been tested properly and so are gonna be of lower quality in the long run and wont be as perfect as the Cowon. I'm sure as soon as the technology is ready major manufactures will be realising them
i just hate how far behind technologically mainstream companies here make consumer players...Viewsonic is going to rebrand Chinese players from Ramos to bring them here in North America, a bit like Meizu players imported here by Dane Elec.
The Telechips TCC8901 (used in the Ramos T11TE) is based on the ARM11 processor, and Telechips IS a Korean company like Cowon. Chinese brand using a Korean processor is a big plus if you ask me, not some slower RockChip, SoChip or ChinaChip...
@frankiepdx is it that much better, because i've only had ipods and was think of changing to a cowon s9 or zune hd. All I hear is how crappy ipods sound is, but i've never had another mp3 player so I really don't know what I'm missing. Do you think I should change?
I have a hard time saying iPods are crappy. If you want to hear crappy, I'll send you my Walkman cassette player. I've been using a Touch for quite some time now. When I plugged in my Cowon D2 I listened to a full album because I forgot how crisp it sounded. It just really matters how important sound quality is to you. Just make sure you have decent headphones or else it's all pointless. Hope I helped.

Well... It Hasn´t got an AppStore like the I-Touch or anything like it.... but it supports FLASH applications so you´ll be able to play suitable flashgames on it
i have iphone, i touch, palm pre and s9. id have to say s9 is better than touch because of the sound quality and video quality. im not saying the touch's ability is bad but its not as good as s9
I've been the proud owner of an S9 for nearly 3 months now. Never looked back, and with firmware releases and updates the player gets better and better. Not to mention the CUSTOM ui's people make for the s9 in flash. Excellent quality. Unsurpassed sound and video quality especially with Jet Effects 3.0 and the AMOLED screen. I still wow people when I show them a movie. Then I shock them when I let them listen to the sound with the movie. sadly the touch and the zune just cant compare....
No sadly the Zune cannot compare either and I was disappointed. Lack of FLAC, WAV, OGG support.. No Divx video codec support.. Locked out of using custom UI interfaces. OLED screen not AMOLED.. Lack of drag and drop function. I was impressed with its fast UI response, very nice, and the tegra chip by Nvidia is awesome yet taxing on the battery..
your paying for a name. Limited quality and a locked out product. Sound quality is mediocre vs the s9's miraid of supported formats and copyrighted effects. The AMOLED screen trumps the touchs easily. Custom UI interface to make the S9 yours. 55 hours of audio and 11 hours of video which beats the touch easily. Tactile external buttons for on the fly usage. No need to be chained to Itunes, and Cowon listens to its userbase with firmware updates to make the 20 even better.
I've ordered an S9 (32gigs) and I'm really looking forward to experience its awesomeness. But, is it a pain to adjust the sound settings I've heard so much praise over? I imagine it's especially so if you have the shuffle button on and different styles of music play in succession. Do you actually use the different settings in there?
Also, does it struggle with large video files? Will I have to compress larger files to a lower resolution in order for it to play normally?
Sound settings not at all. Alot of s9 users have posted their custom settings. There's even a tutorial on how to use Jet effects.
I use a custom UI for my specific listening and picky ear lol.
The s9 works wonderful with large files no problem. I have alot of movies on my s9 and no issue at all. And no you won't the s9 has it's own self adjusting resolution you can choose.

As for the iPod - don't rubbish it just yet. It's an awesome product that paved the way for the Cowon players. You saw for yourselves that it 'borrows' a lot of Apple technology. As for sound quality, well the iPods and iPhones have the Wolfson DAC chip in them and a great amplifier too. They really did pay a lot of attention to sound quality and you can't do much better than an iPod or iPhone in terms of SOUND QUALITY let me assure you. The D9 looks sweet though... I'm buying ;)
You mean A Wolfson DAC, not THE Wolfson DAC. Wolfson make a number of different chips, of different prices and qualities. S9: WM8750S; Ipod touch: WM8758BG (neither of is as good as the Wolfson DACs in e.g. Cowon D2 or Meizu M6). Saying it's good because it has a Wolfson DAC is like saying a computer is good because it has an Intel processor (when it could be a freaking celeron). Also note Cowan were making touch screen mp3 players before apple got into that market. So who is borrowing from who?
I am not trying to say that the iPod touch is better than the Cowon S9 or any other player because I have no experience with them. I just wanted to refute the claim made before that 'The ipod has the worst music player up to date!!! I bet apple didn't even care about the music quality'. Which is of course based on nothing whatsoever. And untrue.
Great product! Particularly excited about the FLAC support and battery life. For once I'll be able to just throw all of my music onto this thing in whatever format and it'll simply work. High end in-ear monitors would go well with this thing I reckon!

Just got my Cowon iAudio 9 which performs on sound even as nice as this one.
Since couple of weeks ago i never heard of Cowon. The more i am glad i finaly found a company who REALY is working for the music!!

How many movies can i upload on the 16GB version? I dont know if i want to bu this one or the D2+. You can expand the D2+ with SD-cards. Thats why i wanna know how many movies you can upload.

bought the S9 the day it was released haha, couldnt wait and was definitely not dissapointed! There are some small issues with it but seriously, I dont understand why people keep buying the Ipods, the sound quality is horrible compared to this player and I buy a player to listen to music, not to chat on Facebook or surf the internet:) Btw, buy a decent pair of headphones, it makes a huge difference, I use the Sennheiser IE8 with the S9 and I think it sounds amazing!

I've owned D2 which i gave to my bro and went to S9 as soon as it came.I were pretty happy with it ! But one day my Pause button got broke and u can lift it up and my other button for changing tracks is shaky so i am trully dissapointed about the button quality.Cowon s9 is cool but i like d2 more for music basically not much happy of owning one.When i am back on the d2 sometimes im stunned by the great touch screen and sound compared to my s9.While the max on s9 is 40 on D2 its 50 :)

Hey everyone. new firmware update 2.52. Some minor fixes. Also just purchased some Denon C-710's from Best Buy and wow! If your an s9 user and need some good IEM's these are the one's! Still on about oh roughly 17 hours of burn in time. Still, these blow anything out of the water I've used including the Klipsch s4's, Vibe Duo's Sony MDR - XB 500's etc.
Really makes the s9 shine just that much more! AMP3TV should do a review on these IEM's.

I have purchased the S9 after going crazy about what mp3 player to buy. It has been 4 months since I have and it is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g I wanted it to be, and more.
Sound quality, the amazing screen, 251 games (for FREE!), movies and the fact that I can charge it in my car while listening to it connected to the Head Unit.
I'm so happy with my purchase, a worthy successor to my iRiver - HD340.

The sound quality on this player cannot be compared to the iPods, not even to the best Walkmans from Sony. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE sound that I was looking for. I have an iPhone and an iTouch, and I am not using them to listen to music anymore . The headphones coming with the player are very good also.

Just incase anyones stressing about the interface. The recent upgrades in firmware makes for a FAR better/easier experience. Furthermore, loads of user created interfaces are avalible, free, safe and shit easy to install.
The S9 is a REALLY good choice for an player. It's NOT a digital swiss army knife such as the touch. But it sure as hell delivers in terms of musical quality and video playback.

There's nothing major that we know of. I actually use one every day and it's never crashed or done anything out of the ordinary - returns rate is tiny as well (usually people leaving them to totally discharge over weeks, you have to re-set while plugged into power to re-start them at that stage)

ipod touch owns this thing. The iTouch isnt just a media player but a full pocket computer. It's got apps, games ,songs, movies,email ,web browsing capabilities. I doubt this beats it in any except sound...

The cowon might be just an mp3 player(that's what your post implied) but the ipod touch isn't . Its a pocket computer-like device with hundreds of thousands of apps available. That was kind of the point of my earlier comment.

well in linux some distro's have the ability to recognize ipods at the drop of a hat, others u have to manually mount the drive i was just curious if anyone on ur crew had done a test run on a linux machine......might not be a bad idea (hint-hint)

I would seriously consider buying one of these if i knew it was louder than my ipod classic. I know already it must sound better, the Classic is as flat as a pancake lol. But Capacity is always an issue and sometimes you Cant beat apple's GB's. Would you say the Cowon is Louder? and does it have an EU lock on it?

The way to get past the EU volume limiter is simply tell the player you're in the US on startup! When you do that, the volume just blows the iPod Classic away.

Yes, every iaudioplayer, doesn't matter how much capacity, they all have perfect adjustable sound!

hmm so far all Cowon players use the DaVinci chip which i don't like. A lot of newer players now use Mini-HDMI connectors, and able to play 1280x720 and 1920x1080 files, MKV containers with H264 video and AC3/AAC audio with different subtitles support also. I think Cowon should update their S9 to be more up to date with the progress, maybe calling it "S9i" instead.

I personally bought a Ramos T11TE 16gb, i think it have nice features.
It doesn't have AMOLED nor Bluetooth nor scratch-resistant glass, but it's pretty good, able to play MKV files with H264 video with AC3/AAC audio and a lot of subtitles files types.

@RaptorZX3, that player is kind off impressive. but its a Chinese make who are unlikely to provide a good level of support like the cowon s9. My friend has the S: flo 2 which is also a Chinese make and the amount of bugs is just plain silly.
Also the fact it has a stylus on a 5" screen is plain funny in this day and age. But in the end a lot of us purchase things on preference and since u watch alot of MKV files it would seem perfect.

Also although they have new technology i.e hdmi, new chips etc, its hasnt been tested properly and so are gonna be of lower quality in the long run and wont be as perfect as the Cowon. I'm sure as soon as the technology is ready major manufactures will be realising them

i just hate how far behind technologically mainstream companies here make consumer players...Viewsonic is going to rebrand Chinese players from Ramos to bring them here in North America, a bit like Meizu players imported here by Dane Elec.
The Telechips TCC8901 (used in the Ramos T11TE) is based on the ARM11 processor, and Telechips IS a Korean company like Cowon. Chinese brand using a Korean processor is a big plus if you ask me, not some slower RockChip, SoChip or ChinaChip...

I have a hard time saying iPods are crappy. If you want to hear crappy, I'll send you my Walkman cassette player. I've been using a Touch for quite some time now. When I plugged in my Cowon D2 I listened to a full album because I forgot how crisp it sounded. It just really matters how important sound quality is to you. Just make sure you have decent headphones or else it's all pointless. Hope I helped.

I've been the proud owner of an S9 for nearly 3 months now. Never looked back, and with firmware releases and updates the player gets better and better. Not to mention the CUSTOM ui's people make for the s9 in flash. Excellent quality. Unsurpassed sound and video quality especially with Jet Effects 3.0 and the AMOLED screen. I still wow people when I show them a movie. Then I shock them when I let them listen to the sound with the movie. sadly the touch and the zune just cant compare....

No sadly the Zune cannot compare either and I was disappointed. Lack of FLAC, WAV, OGG support.. No Divx video codec support.. Locked out of using custom UI interfaces. OLED screen not AMOLED.. Lack of drag and drop function. I was impressed with its fast UI response, very nice, and the tegra chip by Nvidia is awesome yet taxing on the battery..

Only reason I would get S9 is because It BLOWS EVERY OTHER DEVICE OUT OF THE WATER in terms of sound quality

your paying for a name. Limited quality and a locked out product. Sound quality is mediocre vs the s9's miraid of supported formats and copyrighted effects. The AMOLED screen trumps the touchs easily. Custom UI interface to make the S9 yours. 55 hours of audio and 11 hours of video which beats the touch easily. Tactile external buttons for on the fly usage. No need to be chained to Itunes, and Cowon listens to its userbase with firmware updates to make the 20 even better.

I've ordered an S9 (32gigs) and I'm really looking forward to experience its awesomeness. But, is it a pain to adjust the sound settings I've heard so much praise over? I imagine it's especially so if you have the shuffle button on and different styles of music play in succession. Do you actually use the different settings in there?
Also, does it struggle with large video files? Will I have to compress larger files to a lower resolution in order for it to play normally?

Sound settings not at all. Alot of s9 users have posted their custom settings. There's even a tutorial on how to use Jet effects.
I use a custom UI for my specific listening and picky ear lol.
The s9 works wonderful with large files no problem. I have alot of movies on my s9 and no issue at all. And no you won't the s9 has it's own self adjusting resolution you can choose.

As for the iPod - don't rubbish it just yet. It's an awesome product that paved the way for the Cowon players. You saw for yourselves that it 'borrows' a lot of Apple technology. As for sound quality, well the iPods and iPhones have the Wolfson DAC chip in them and a great amplifier too. They really did pay a lot of attention to sound quality and you can't do much better than an iPod or iPhone in terms of SOUND QUALITY let me assure you. The D9 looks sweet though... I'm buying ;)

You mean A Wolfson DAC, not THE Wolfson DAC. Wolfson make a number of different chips, of different prices and qualities. S9: WM8750S; Ipod touch: WM8758BG (neither of is as good as the Wolfson DACs in e.g. Cowon D2 or Meizu M6). Saying it's good because it has a Wolfson DAC is like saying a computer is good because it has an Intel processor (when it could be a freaking celeron). Also note Cowan were making touch screen mp3 players before apple got into that market. So who is borrowing from who?
