  • This band director chooses music that is challenging and promotes music literacy and appreciation. He is occasionally bashed by some students who would prefer to play pop music for their competition show. That is unfortunate. I was in a H. S. band that consistently placed top ten nationally in MBA competition. All the top bands played the classics. Band members, someday you will appreciate what he has done for you. Director, keep on doing the right thing for your band and the community.

  • shut up chris

  • yeahhhhh we pretty much rocked although i'm not sure this years show was pretty good too hmm tough call

  • one of the sets in the last movement during the solo looks like a penis

  • HA! that was the infamous set 36 i believe.

  • good old set 36... i was part of the sack

  • yea so I go to Central and we're always talking about how North always plays things people have barely ever heard but despite this I do enjoy watching them perform when I get the chance which is usually only at like one or two competitions throughout the year.

  • it is stuff kids have barely ever heard over. what must be observed is that standards are set by OMEA, which is a musically educated and enlightened audience of critics. Every judge has heard what they play. granted, its not always the most "hip", it is extremely good music to play and furthers their musicianship.

  • so i love all the commotion caused by a certain member of my family/ ex-member of the north band. and if you don't like the show... who really cares?!?! in all honesty, you just need to chill because if this is worst thing that has happened to you, you have either a great life or screwed up priorities. :)

  • 1st: Eric Justice, you're not allowed to shout that!

2nd: Having been a member of North's band for four years (Class of 07), I can say the directors always chose music that was both challenging to play and enjoyable to hear. Just because the audience has probably never heard of most of the things we played, that doesn't mean it is not as fun to listen to. The band did a great job considering all the seniors they lost, and the fact that their director was absent for the majority of the season.

  • I would say that this illustrates perfectly the difference between a North and Central band. No words are necessary to describe that further.

I go to Central. No offense to my side, but I would choose a no-frills show like this over any show I've ever been a part of. I lived at Tanglewood and got to play Copland 3; it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

And the Gun Battle from Billy the Kid? The programming for this show is outstanding. (PS I study Copland constantly)

  • fuck you, graham.

  • You're right, Jake. I don't know why I always think I'm qualified to offer any musical commentary. For further information on the North-Central schism, ask Mason for a copy of the tuba part for this year's show. Just do it.

  • fuck you, graham.

  • 'Member when you quit band?

  • I'm a freshmen in pit in PHSN band, and did anyone not in our band recgnize the formation in the third song shaped like a penis?????

  • and Nugent4Heisman... don't get to cocky. you guys did okay, sort of awesome, but you make it sound like your perfesional

  • first, i wasn't cocky. second,i am not in this band anymore. i graduated in '06 and as an alum, they didnt sound anywhere near the previous 3 years, but they in all honesty played a better show than central, but who cares right? i can tell you what a professional band sounds like. i am in TBDBITL so no, im not gonna claim north was "awesome" but they preformed their music(however lame it was)to the expectations of the OMEA. Mr. Sewell is an amazing guy and I only wish I could play for him again

  • also keep in mind that band members have to option to influence their directors. to me, playing fun popular music that your going to have fun with is the best part of band. if you throw this forth to your director then they willl listen. i guess noone spoke up soon enough. or maybe they liked it idk. i guess it depends on what you like to play.

  • i am in central marching band. i think that north did a good job this year. i am not racist against north like everyone else from central though. good job north. all i can say is that i think that you guys need to play... how do i put it... more, exciting, or interesting music. but for your show good job. GO PICKERINGTON!!!

  • keep in mind the students play what they are given. it is their job only to excel at what they are handed. and their music is typically really good.. you just have to have a variety of music to be a top band and thats what they chose to do

  • Haha, that'd be my voice at the beginning of this thing. I was in the band for four years as a Saxophone and all I can say is GO GET 'EM PANTHER BAND!!!!

  • take it, everyone. take it.

  • I'm a freshman trumpet player and I also thought we did awesome thx for taping this !

  • if youre a freshman trumpey player, what you think really doesnt matter.. and you didnt do awesome,.. you did ok.. but awesome.. reserve that for a truely outstanding performance

  • yea... also who is this?? I am section leader now and i demand to know who did it! ha

  • I am in the drumline at North and I must say that we did really good.

  • north is definatley much more aggressive with music choices than central. Not a knock on central. But I'm sure that more kids from north can get lessons.

    But both had good show

  • no.. i went to both schoos but north for 3 and it has nothing to do with lessons or money. norths facilities are so nice and the directors enable you all to do well and push you.

  • I guess I should rephrase that. I loved both shows. Its just one was harder. and it was north. And North takes an AA band to concert band, central doesnt. But I dont think that its bad. and i'm not against either. both are really nice.
