Just listening the dialogue between the old museum's "daroghaas" trying to revive dead bodies, one, giving them to vultures, who prefer dying rather eating them, the other, throw half burned bodies

Find a place outside bombay or feed the birds in bombay daily or have bird farms.
Fellow Hindus, Let them have whatever they want as part of their religion.
Vedic Civilazation established by the ancestors of modern day Romania! Be informed...
As the Pelasgians left the Carpatho-Danubian space heading for the east, they settled down for a while in the Caucasian Mountains; then they moved on eastwards, as their population increased considerably, eventually reaching India, after a rarely smooth and peaceful migration. Once here, they settled on the superior bank of the Indus and named the river SINDHU.
SINDHU. Probably when the Persians conquered this territory (in 518 BC) they had a hard time pronouncing it as such and changed it to HINDU, which the Greeks later turned into INDOS. The slaughter of Harappa, attributed to the Carpatho-Danubians, took place in 2,000 BC, 4000 years ago.; thousands of years had to pass until in 1826 a deserter of the British army by the name of Charles Masson wrote about "The Ruins of a Brick Castle,"
The Carpatho-Danubians conquered India, but never forgot their native land, where their Vedic gods "lived", the Carpatho-Danubian space - Dacia. Daksha, the most beautiful place on earth, the land of the gods that they had left behind, was the country chosen by the seven gods of Genesis, ruled by Daksha; the latter populated this land overnight with his own first 10,000 sons, the Dacians, the chosen ones.
These Carpatho-Danubians coming from the banks of the Tisa (Pa-Thissus), down the Nistru, Tyros, or along the greatest and strongest river in Europe (bearing the name of the Rain Goddess, DANU, mother of rain) preserved their customs and language (the so-called Sanskrit); this heritage made them "more" immortal than the gods themselves. That's why when the great god Daksha offered the Dacians, his chosen people, the spiral as a symbol it was because he wished them to spread like it.
The comeback of the great tribe chief, BRASIVA, the Raman, probably brought up the toponimic Brasov, today one of the largest city in Romania. Around the city one finds "traces", villages, left by his brothers-in-arms, VUDILA, the later BUDILA and Djava, the son of SHARKARA (Sercaia).
In the middle of Brasov there is a hill called VARTE; in old Sanskrit, the Vedic VARTA meant country (VATRA in Romanian having exactly the same meaning). VARTA BRASIVA may mean the country (VATRA) of Brasiva
OM (OM is a sacred Vedic syllable, previously mentioned in the book), and every Romanian call each other at list 10 time per day OM, meaning "man"; we have the mountain Om.ANCIENT INDIA: Land of Mystery (Time-Life Book, Alexandria, Virginia) describes the Aryans as an aggressive, half-nomad population, believing in strong warrior gods, who would attack, sending out lightening from their war carts.
no body conquered india. They all lived together in Indus. Some moved towards Iran. Some moved towards current day India. Sanskit and Avesta are almost same.
The Carpatho-Danubians conquered India, coming from the banks of the Tisa (Pa-Thissus), down the Nistru, Tyros, or along the greatest and strongest river in Europe (bearing the name of the Rain Goddess, DANU, mother of rain) preserved their customs and language (the so-called Sanskrit); this heritage made them "more" immortal than the gods themselves.
The Vedics are the ancestors of modern day Romania. Indian and Romanians have common ancestors. One people, two lands.
The vedic culture transformed into Hinduism incorporating the rituals & the five elements. Some 1500 years ago, Hinduism faced extinction threat from Buddhism; yet it transformed itself by incorporating the bhakti movement and re-uniting all the Aryan tribes. I guess Parsi priests need to evolve too and adapt to the changing needs of their community members.
it was was more than 2000 years ago. And at that time it wasnt called hinduism. hindusism is a 19th centuray word givin by british. 400 years ago these were identified as multiple religions and shiv folowwers used to kill vishnu followers the way it was done in gujrat. by "hindus" to muslim. read the book story of india.
I am an Indian not a hindu.....but I think we were talking about history of hinduism which comes back to india. Every one should abandon there religion so we can have a peacefull life.
Zoroastrianism is an offshoot of indo-iranian aryan culture. Rig Veda comes closer to provide a glimpse of indo-iranian culture. There is a story called "Battle of ten kings" where different tribes spread from central asia to northwestern india fought each other as two groups. Bharatas won the battle & it is speculated that Zoroaster lost both his people & kingdom along with Druhyus. It is then Zoroaster went to eastern iran to start the parsi religion.
Parsis are cool man ! But just one question, can not some other animal be used ?...I mean the principle is to be useful even after death and vultures are not the only scavengers who need food.
He is the way because he leads to eternal life, he is the truth because his words are true and the life because he gives life to all who will come to him.
Please read the prophet's words (i.e. Gathas) and analyze them for yourselves. Do not listen to a bunch of Parsi Moubeds who sound like Mullahs. They are ignorant and know nothing of the real essence of the religion. Zoroastrianism is not a cult, but the Parsee moubed's attitude makes it look so. None of these moubeds can read or understand the original words in Avesta or Gathic language, how can they be sure what they say is true or proper.Grow up please!

maybe the answer lies in the fact that zoroastrianism and judaism are so closely connected:zero ashter, ishtar and the female pendant of early judaism.zoro ashter zro doshter is the original type of solomon.are the parses brothers of the pharisees?
This was really interesting to learn more about the Parsi community. There was no mention of the true reason why the vultures are disapearing. It's simple, a drug used to treat livestock called Diclofenac. If a vulture feeds on a carcass that has diclofenac it causes renal failure. There is a vulture safe alternative drug called Meloxicam but it is not widely used. What are Parsi's doing to stop the use of diclofenac and save the remaining vultures?
As a young Parsi priest in the US i think we should expand our numbers and haha well... more vultures. i think anybody who wants to join should be able to. I saying this come from a high priestly family and it has been a tradition for my family to become priests. i think it is time for a change. A new generation has come
And to those viewers who posted comments with anonymous monikers, eg, gold091083, how about showing some spine and revealing your true identities? If you believe in what you write, please stand up to be counted and sign off with your true names!
Ergo, no 'chinwad' bridge, no bright lights at the end of the tunnel, no trumpets, no angels; simply extinguishment of the consciousness, the mind. So stop being fearful and think for yourself instead of slavishly following scripture like so many sheep being herded. Summing up, do the right thing - cremate, instead of leaving yourself to rot for months at an end. After you are dead you won't feel a thing one way or the other, however you are disposed off.
Neurological discoveries are making it more and more certain by the day that the mind simply emerges from matter, the countless trillions of connections between the 100 billion neurones; it (the mind, the consciousness, the self, call it what you like) is not an entity that can exist in a disembodied state, without a brain. Thus, when your brain dies, so does your consciousness, and there is nothing after that.
Or, come on fellow Parsis, why not think outside the square - how about donating your dead bodies to schools of anatomy or scientific research, huh?
Too long have priests simply scared the laity with myths, like, say, the soul being dammed unless the body gets eaten by the scarcer by the day vultures! But is there the slightest evidence of the existence of this elusive entity?
The come on "fellow parsees" is a call by a piper. All i can suggest to you "fellow Parsee" is to take some time out and learn why we can't do all that you suggest,
just by reading from your science books and what comes to heart. I am a layman and I am not scared of our priests. I hold them in very high esteem, unlike you, who have gone and compared them with the mullahs. It is because of people like you today that the religion could get converted to a cult in the future and loose everything it has to offer for our spiritual progress.
Everything is not, cannot, be proven by science and Logic alone.
Follow whatever path that you need to follow, but do not foolishly compare, influence and distort peoples thinking to try and bring it on par with yours. People can think for themselves and those who have the faith will follow.
Have a happy life. Spirituality has survived much worse and will live till the end of time.
Therefore, given the environmental realities of Bombay (which I last visited 5 years ago) or indeed other congested and polluted Indian cities, it is time the community moved on and embraced electric cremation. It is the way to go (if you can excuse the pun), the method of disposal of choice, with the least ecological footprint. Unlike, burial that ties down hectares of land or traditional cremation that chops down countless square kilometres of forests.
Encarta Dictionary (UK) defines fundamentalism as "the belief that religious doctrine should be implemented literally, not interpreted or adapted". Thus it is that I consider the attitude of the priest in the video to be fundamentalist. Like stoning adulterers, cutting off the limbs of thieves and the strict literal belief that the World was created in seven days, about 6,000 years ago, some beliefs need to be re-examined and discarded when dated.
When a mad mullah incites fanatics to kill people for publishing certain cartoons or bomb innocent tourists in Bali, we blame fundamentalism. When equally blind Christian fanatics try to stop schools from teaching evolution, we deride that as fundamentalism as well. How different is the Zoroastrian priest wagging his finger and thundering, "In the matter of religion there is no choice"?
I am scared, at some point of time there might be a divide in the religion. Our proclivity of our culture being rigid is understood, but subjective to whatever the argument arises i believe it is only fair for one to choose ones way of the last rites. Having said that my choice is still remains, the path to the Dokhma.
Parsee/Irani Zarathushtis need to strictly follow the "Dokhmenashini" system of disposal
Spiritual progress of the soul, through the practice of Good thoughts, Good words, and Good deeds and the worship of the five sacred elements is of paramount importance in a Parsee/Irani Zarathushtis life.
After the Parsee places of worship like the Atash Behrman (Fire Temple), the Holy Dakhma or the "Towers of silence" are the most important foundation pillars on which the whole religion stands and are necessary for the correct practice of their religion.
One would not be a true Zarathushtrian if he/she did not follow these fundamental religious practices.
Today the biggest threat is not the dwindling numbers or the lack of vultures; Vultures are only secondary in importance in the whole system based on strict eco-friendly norms.
It is the Sun's rays or Khurshed-nagiroshni that takes care of the major portion of the religious and the disposal aspect of the system. And is scientifically proven to be absolutely safe compared to the other systems.
It is sadly the lack of will or the inclination of the people in charge of the Dakhmas, to make them work that has brought about this present situation.
The people who make these videos and who write or speak against this system need to first learn the intricate significance of the whole system by doing research or by asking the right scholars or priests and not ignorant laymen.
Dead Bodies will rot and decompose and stink whether they are six feet underground or 50 feet above.
Earth and fire are both sacred elements amongst others and one may worship and follow his religion his whole life but if he ultimately wishes to be buried or cremated he defiles both of these that he has vowed to purify and protect, besides one needs to know how the Dakhma helps the soul during its journey immediately after death.
Parsees will not survive as a race if they intermarry. The Towers of Silence is the best way to dispose the dead - its ecologically friendly and according to the tenants of the religion.
scary ...I think the vulture culture is so ecologically friendly...if only human civilization and chemical pollution does not destroy the vultures.I hopr they succeed in repopulating Bombay with the vultures.

I saying this come from a high priestly family and it has been a tradition for my family to become priests. i think it is time for a change. A new generation has come

Instalment 5:

Part I of many parts.
In a nutshell....

And is scientifically proven to be absolutely safe compared to the other systems.

and eco-friendly.

He would thereby be negating all the benefits he would gain of his spiritual progress if he goes against the established and true religious practise.

Parsees will not survive as a race if they intermarry. The Towers of Silence is the best way to dispose the dead - its ecologically friendly and according to the tenants of the religion.

A Mistri, chootia, not tenants, tenets. The religion is not a landlord.

scary ...I think the vulture culture is so ecologically friendly...if only human civilization and chemical pollution does not destroy the vultures.I hopr they succeed in repopulating Bombay with the vultures.
