He's filling large concert halls....thus POP Music.
You are a brain washed fool. I don't let marketing companies tell me what categories exist in music—and I surely don't get lessons from ignorant twits like you. There will always be Pop music. And "acoustic guitar melodies" would suggest non vocal instrumental music...you are one confused person.
@Rexicano I'm sorry you were so vague? Lmao.. thats all your fault for making it look like you were calling it by the genre "pop music" (you capitolized both letters, Pop Music). Why would you expect anyone to interpret it as anything other than the genre?
@broadcastmyass4u Apologize because he's an idiot who put emphasis on "Pop Music" and expected everyone else to know he meant POPULAR (which is not a genre of music)? If you take his side you're retarded.
@oogaboogan Wrong, Rexicano is right. Sea change IS pop music whether you like to admit it or not (Pop = top 40, and the fact that sea change charted way up in the top 40's means by definition ITS POP MUSIC).
@rwk1983 I wonder why people were retarded enough to pretend "pop music" should be a musical genre when it says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THE CONTENT OF THE MUSIC, ONLY ITS POPULARITY. It shouldn't be a "genre" at all, it indicates nothing of what the music sounds like. Top 40s could contain anything from techno to country, would you still call techno or country pop music? If you do you're as dumb as the people who came up with it. It shouldn't be a genre, by every shred of language logic.
Should have been on the US release. I don't get what's up with artists added songs on Japanese releases and not anywhere else. A lot of artists do that. Not to be rude, but what makes Japan so special that get "their own" songs? Is there an actual real reason for this or just record company tactic to sell more albums? I understand American and European artists are hugely popular over there, but still. It's almost like they're are saying that certain fans are more important that others.
I love the sounds he creates on this whole album-- definitely started with Mutations and then came to fruition with this album. I love him-- he's earned a place as one of my favorite artists of all time.
I've been trying to capture some of his sound with my music lately. If any of you have a free moment, I'd love to hear what you think of it-- check out my new music video on my channel. Thanks!
Sea Change has been hailed by many as his best in terms of commercial efforts. I'm still a mellow gold/stereopathetic soul manure/one foot in the grave fan, but I do agree that he broke ground and redefined his image to many with Sea Change. His straightfoward seriousness on Sea Change shocked fans of Odelay and Midnite Vultures.
Mine too, Beck is the best hes so multifaceted. After this album it seemed that he was never going to get out of this depression. Then he gave us Guero : ). Always beautiful music.
and "Go it Alone" is his response. Finding comfort and acceptance about his shattered relationship. Sea change helped me get over my own loss. Beck is the modern, versatile god of music.
I think some people would call this song mawkish or maudlin or something similar. Beware of those people. They've let something corrupt into their hearts and it's slowly eating away all that makes life . . . human.
It makes sense why this isn't included on Sea Change as we know it, at least this version anyway. Its a bit too bright and melodic...

I don't like this tune as much as the songs that made it onto the American release.
The Japanese can keep it.
Sea Change is one of the best Collections of songs from Pop Music ever.
A Masterpiece.

Musically it's pretty "Revolver" Era Beatles-esque. Still, fear of revealing influences is a shoddy reason to keep this beauty from being released.
