I played WoW since vanilla, I cleared every raid content except for a few in cataclysm. WoW is an excellent game, but it's dropped both in quality and gameplay. Especially gameplay, everything is dumbed down so a 9 year old could raid 25man hc.
Rift is an excellent game aswell, yes it took alot from wow, it took alot from korean mmo's its taken stuff from guild wars and VARIOUS other games. JUST LIKE WOW. No games now a days are original. But rift is actually a next gen mmo, unlike wow.
I have to say Rift did steal alot of WoW continent and class abillitys. There is exacly the same chat system the color on loot etc its so copied from WoW. Warriors have charge, the Taunt has same freaking animation like in WoW. Omfg I am shocked that this is even liegal. We're not in azeroth anymore. Jesus christ and blizzard didn't sue them yet?

For example the classes. Some people like the eq2 style class system, other's think it's watered down sillyness that a lot of people have access to a lot of the same skill choices compared to a game like WoWs 10 completely unique classes. My point is I think a lot of people will agree that discussing how the gameplay competes is far more important than arguing over who stole whos evil dragon plot line.
I am currently a WoW player but all the fanboy kids who's only argument is that it's directly copying from WoW need to shut up because everything in the fantasy genre has been borrowed from somewhere or another. There are much better reasons to be compared other than "it's copying the storyline" WoW's monopoly over MMOs hasn't been because of it's storyline it's because of the success of the gameplay so please try to make more relevant points like that.

Rift essentially takes away the mind-numbing task of power-leveling toon after toon after toon because there are thousands and thousands of different spec combinations across every class between both factions. It has far more intensive gameplay when it comes to interacting with the environment in that if everyone is too focused on "power-leveling" the Rifts will overtake the map and your questing areas and turn-ins will be completely destroyed by invaders. It's amazing.
@GreatScott77 Not to take away from RIFT, but how does playing a different class (or group of classes) remove the mind-numbing task of power-leveling? It's still the same overall content. Changing your class only alters your approach to combat.
@mostazadinho Let's say you grab a bunch of quests and attempt to do them, but are in a role with perhaps two healing souls and one DPS. You're going to find your overall survivability better, but your questing may be slowed down by your lack of damage. Or for that matter you are pure DPS, or even perhaps have one healing soul and two DPS you're going to find yourself sitting and drinking after every battle or dead if you pull too many.
@mostazadinho If you're playing these mmo's you're more than likely in it for the real-time combat, which I'll give you that one, but do you see how that iconic power leveling formula is virtually non-existent? At least for now. You have the opportunity to approach each quest differently with each new combination of souls. Someone will figure it out for all the classes it's inevitable, given time, but for myself I'm enjoying the storylines and the beauty of the overall gameplay.

@TopCityPrince yea theres 3 races per faction and theres 2 factions. and yes theres 4 classes but you have 8 different specs to chose from in each class lol. like for example there is a Cleric class and basically you can be a plate wearing priest or a pally lol so many options!

I've played vanilla WoW and loved it, but with each expansion I was steadily losing interest and finally stopped mid WotLK. I played a trial during the 4.0 patch and hated the changes.
To be honest, I think the quote they used in the advertisement was a little corny and unnecessary, I wouldn't have marketed it that way. However I think after all the betas I've participated in, (Rift's and other MMO's) Rift has a lot of fantastic potential for something even greater than it already is.
I dont understand why everyone is hating on Outlands.. I think TBC was one of the best expansions of WoW, it felt fresh, new, exciting and they changed the theme/colorsets/textures in a way that felt really new. Everytime I level an alt at Hellfire Peninsula I get that feeling I had when I first started playing WoW - excitement.
Wotlk was by far the worst, and Cata was a rehash of all the things that should have been done in the first place, so its basically a good expansion to. Oh well..

Cataclysm is the best thing to happen to WoW. Cataclysm is the best of all aspects of WoW. Like Vanilla, there is value to content again, like in Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King, all classes are balanced out, and there are different kinds of content for different players.
The best thing in Cataclysm is that the 5 person instance has value again. Skill and patience are once again values in WoW.

@orieo56 That's what you think. I've been testing Rift and it's better than WoW in every way, and it's a SERIOUS game. WoW looks cartoony, has way too much humor and way too many pop culture references. It's also a "stand around in a city and queue for dungeons" game, Rift is not.
No single game will dethrone WoW, it will be a combination of games, and I do think Rift will be one of the ones to contribute.

I find it funny that everyone is comparing RIFT to WoW when actually its more closely related to Warhammer both in graphics and the general theme. Even though I played both WoW and Warhammer, I must say this was a clever marketing strategy especially with the "Were not in Azeroth anymore" line, but I probably wont buy it since I am waiting for Star Wars: TOR to be released.
I honestly want rift to do good and yes I am a wow player. I truly dont want this game to bomb because good competition will bring a lot of creative things to both games. I have been playing in the beta and I gotta say, its a good MMO. It is a traditional MMO in some ways and in others it is new. I am looking forward to release. It is worth playing.
Stick to it, Rift isn't a game for you. Too hard and too ''WoW'' if you may. While having flaws but then again.. When WoW was released, druids didn't have a decent talent tree. Funky, huh? :) Just saying, give it a chance and you will see something amazing.

Got invited into the beta about a month ago. It's pretty much Tabula Rasa (with the bad UI). The one thing that does look like potential win is the class customization.

I've played vanilla WoW and loved it, but with each expansion I was steadily losing interest and finally stopped mid WotLK. I played a trial during the 4.0 patch and hated the changes.
To be honest, I think the quote they used in the advertisement was a little corny and unnecessary, I wouldn't have marketed it that way. However I think after all the betas I've participated in, (Rift's and other MMO's) Rift has a lot of fantastic potential for something even greater than it already is.

I dont understand why everyone is hating on Outlands.. I think TBC was one of the best expansions of WoW, it felt fresh, new, exciting and they changed the theme/colorsets/textures in a way that felt really new. Everytime I level an alt at Hellfire Peninsula I get that feeling I had when I first started playing WoW - excitement.
Wotlk was by far the worst, and Cata was a rehash of all the things that should have been done in the first place, so its basically a good expansion to. Oh well..

The original WoW was amazing, TBC was great, WotlK was okay, Cataclysm blows... I've loved WoW, but its finally dying off and im glad i now i have something different to play. Im still a fan of Blizzard but looks like Rift is a good possibilty for taking the reigns on the next new MMORPG

Cataclysm is the best thing to happen to WoW. Cataclysm is the best of all aspects of WoW. Like Vanilla, there is value to content again, like in Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King, all classes are balanced out, and there are different kinds of content for different players.
The best thing in Cataclysm is that the 5 person instance has value again. Skill and patience are once again values in WoW.

Looking at this I think it's more of a attempt at mixing wow and fable I love both games but there seems to be of trying to beat cata I mean come on "rifts from the elemental plain"? Seems like a copy of wow just before cata came out. This game might have something to it but it won't be much more then another runescape at the end

@orieo56 That's what you think. I've been testing Rift and it's better than WoW in every way, and it's a SERIOUS game. WoW looks cartoony, has way too much humor and way too many pop culture references. It's also a "stand around in a city and queue for dungeons" game, Rift is not.
No single game will dethrone WoW, it will be a combination of games, and I do think Rift will be one of the ones to contribute.

Played last night to level 9. Still nothing but collect and kill quests. I cant care about the story at all its woefully generic and outdated.

btw i bin playing beta for a few hours now and this game looks realy promising. good graffic and still doesnt require a psycho pc to run it. which i got but still.
the gameplay is realy good. the storyline.... dunno yet only lv 12.
still want to tjeck out the pvp section of the game but then agian i am only lv 12 i have not seen that much yet.

I've been in the beta, and pre ordered collectors .. and i gotta say, so far im really impressed ..
This is the first mmo i've tried except wow, where your spells start casting right away if you press a spell, i've found that a lot of other MMO can be a bit slow in that department .. Love the way they use the 'puplic quests' from warhammer online (Atleast thats where i saw it first)
Awesome classes, with a lot of combinations .. like not being stuck to one specc like you often are in wow

I find it funny that everyone is comparing RIFT to WoW when actually its more closely related to Warhammer both in graphics and the general theme. Even though I played both WoW and Warhammer, I must say this was a clever marketing strategy especially with the "Were not in Azeroth anymore" line, but I probably wont buy it since I am waiting for Star Wars: TOR to be released.

I honestly want rift to do good and yes I am a wow player. I truly dont want this game to bomb because good competition will bring a lot of creative things to both games. The commercial ''We're not in Azeroth anymore'' Wasn't an attack towards WoW, it was more of a calling towards old WoW players to come and check out Telara, the new mmorpg that has capture the REAL and OLD essence of REAL mmorpg experince. (Rather than just x-server lfg and pvp grouping with 85% of the time being idle). This is just a callout for you, the real mmorpers.

What i'm saying here is that well.. People in RIft are just way more enjoyable people to play with rather than to log on wow and read how people brag about how epix their epix are and how imba WoW is over the other games. In Rift people are yes.. comparing this to wow, saying it is a clone but actually, it's a clone of an ordinary mmorpg with next-gen graphs and dynamic events and polished gameplay. This game has lots of possibilities and failure is one of them. But let us hope that this game...

Needs some adding but overall, this game is just awesome. I mean, played WoW since vanilla etc and i gotta say, WoW still is the best MMO i've ever played (After Dransik..) It was fun, addictive and best of all CHALLENGING. But now... since tbc i was like. K, i can handle this. It's okay. Wotlk. Lvl 80 -> Quit. Cata: ''I'll just WT-*DING*
