THe order of the wires is important for consistency. When you make a crossover, it helps to remember which wires to cross, and it avoids confusion when you have to make more than ten of these (which is a frequent occurance for network administrators and other PC technicians.) HOWEVER, you are correct, the color of the wire does not effect it's conductability.
actually that last part is wrong. it also matters because of the the way the wires twist in the cable. if you put opposing wires in a pair it reduces distance and speed
Sorry I take so long to respond to comments... I don't check that email address often. Yes, but it is not recommended as it leaves one more area for error or malfunction.
The string is a pull string, if you want to be certain not to cut the conductors insulation, you can grab the string with your needle nose pliers and pull the string down to split the outer jacket of the cable
i tried it, it worked thanks!!!!!!

Thank you very much for this, saved me quite a bit of money (cable by the foot + crimpers) compared to buying long premade ones.

Why do you tell us the order of the wires? As long as they match on both ends it doesn't matter what color order they are in...

just out of curiosity do you know what the purpose of that "silky braid", bc it does have a purpose its not there just to be in the way?
vintecdude17 4 years ago
Yes it does serve a purpose, i am told it is used to feed in the machine as well as provide space between the wires. More than that, i don't know.
TheGreatBagheera 4 years ago
the braid i was told will add some strength to the cable so it is not just solid wire inside
cheyne3464 4 years ago
Ahh, that also makes sense. Thanks for the input :)
