what, this is notebook, why do I need to rotate the damn screen? nonetheless, 400 pounds is too much, 300 should be resonable

With e-books, being able to rotate the screen, take notes on the screen would eliminate paper books for some people.

Think practically, don't just assume ebook or note should be read/written read vertically. Or even that, don't you know ebook reader always have rotating document function itself.

The problem with techonology today is people just fancy of integrating everything new without knowing its usability. Some might look at the iphone rotating screen & shout, I want one in my laptop. All-in-1 might be best but not optimal when u can't even manipulate all

No it isn't. They bought a company that patented a particular implementation technology for a multi-touch screen. It is only this technology which is patented, an uses or gestures (like the pinch) just cannot be patented. Also, it's possible for other companies to develop multi-touch screens using other approaches, thus avoiding the patent, and it is being done.
