This year was the first year that I wasn't in school to see others participate in the Day of Silence. I couldn't show up because of a recent surgery, but I know many people have held their peace on the Day of Silence and made a statement. I've been doing the DOS since it started and ever since then I've seen it grow in my area from me, to me and a few people, to about 50, then 100+, and last year I saw people I didn't even know taking place in it. It amazed me. One person CAN make a difference.
i participated in this day and it really helped spread the awareness and itt made me happy to know that i wa a part of something bigger than me or just my school im really happy hpw many people participate in it truly for the cause itself

When I watched ten minutes of silence, I thought for ten minutes about the discrimination in our society against homosexuals. Then, I thought about the happy faces of people around me who are in love, whether its boy/boy, boy/girl, or girl/girl. They all had smiling, blissful faces. Love has no gender.
Before I say this, let me say I have nothing against gays. I highly support them, and I'm bisexual along with the majority of my closest friends. But I don't get exactly what this day of silence would do. It's not gonna stop bullying. If anything, it raises it. What I think we should do is persuade society to look down upon homophobes instead of gays, because in all honesty they deserve what they dish out.

We had an event for this in the park today for my community. It was really nice to see how many people came out for it even though it was POURING rain lol.
we did this at our school as well (im in the GSA club btw) and only a few people did it, but nevertheless it was still meaningful, our school is pretty small though (293 high school students), and is very accepting

My High School had Day Of Silence today. I managed to be silent for the entire school day while wearing a sign stating why I was silent. Many people participated, but the few people that didn't kept messing with us. That didn't stop me though! (;
This is so cool. I tried to participate... but I go to school over the computer (so no one knew I wasn't talking), and my mom calls me during the day to make sure I haven't like died or something (so I had to talk so she didn't freak out). So... I was just really, really quiet when I could be.
A couple friends and I are participatin even though we're from T'dad. :) Somehow i feel as though I'm cheating by typing though :|... Yet it feels alot more fulfilling than a 40day fast for lent...anywho.. 4hrs 30 mins and counting :)

In both cases, grouping them all in one lump sum may work against the cause by trivializing the impact that each plays in human society... thats just my opinion
My english teacher knew about it and decided to make today a discussion day the entire time, what a tool. Ironically my geometry teacher was really helpful and made some homophobe feel really bad after the kid said "I hate gays" (who happens to sit next to me) even though she went to the most homophobic college in the country...
See, i wanted to do this, but i got the email at 5am to tell me it was today, so i could have coped with that, but it was also the day i had an audition for the job of a lifetime, so i couldn't be quiet for that!

My High School had Day Of Silence today. I managed to be silent for the entire school day while wearing a sign stating why I was silent. Many people participated, but the few people that didn't kept messing with us. That didn't stop me though! (;

This is so cool. I tried to participate... but I go to school over the computer (so no one knew I wasn't talking), and my mom calls me during the day to make sure I haven't like died or something (so I had to talk so she didn't freak out). So... I was just really, really quiet when I could be.

A couple friends and I are participatin even though we're from T'dad. :) Somehow i feel as though I'm cheating by typing though :|... Yet it feels alot more fulfilling than a 40day fast for lent...anywho.. 4hrs 30 mins and counting :)

@BakaShurui True: I'm sure that there are many opportunities to protest bullying on all levels or specific levels. but in away what you're saying is World aids day should be used to bring awareness to all human diseases. In both cases, grouping them all in one lump sum may work against the cause by trivializing the impact that each plays in human society... thats just my opinion

My english teacher knew about it and decided to make today a discussion day the entire time, what a tool. Ironically my geometry teacher was really helpful and made some homophobe feel really bad after the kid said "I hate gays" (who happens to sit next to me) even though she went to the most homophobic college in the country...

I did this. Exactly what I said. My principal came up to me when I had the tape on my mouth and was like you know you have to take it off if a teacher asks you to, don't you? I shook my head and he said when a teacher ask you something you have to answer I was like NAHHHH.
