Can like you make a remake of the 1st guitar tutorial? Preferably, by Joe because he explains the chords and wear to strum and hammer like I don't get what Robin is doing watch the video twenty times over and over with pausing but I don't seem to get it.
men you are no good to teaching too...first of all you turn the guitar so we can`t see qhat you doing, and second you hide your right hand so we can`t know witch string you`re play`n...sorry, i didn`t like it
Haha I finally got how to play this (Well, I need some practice but I now get how to play the stuff xDDD) I thought at 1st that you couldn't teach, but I was SOOOOOOOOOOO wrong xDDD. Thanks again for this tut!
Hey man, forget what everybody else says. You're awesome for doin this, if people have to slow it down and watch it a couple of times then they can get over it. Its a difficult song and I think its pretty great that you took the time to learn it and are using your God given gift to help other people. I hope God continues to bless you man. Keep it up!
ya,,, i dont follow at all.. sorry to say,, you are pretty good but IT IS hard to follow after the slide in the beginning you should say stuff like what string to play, be more specific. if you do that you would be awesome
The point is that in the intro, you basically pick some strings within the chords used in the verse (stylizing it/changing it here and there, of course, but minimally)
Shane Barnard himself plays the intro different almost every time(I've seen him live). In this video, Robin plays the intro a lot like the version heard in the album 'Upstairs'
If you want a clear-cut, 100% accurate way of playing the intro, I could definitely make a video of that, but my suggestion is: forget it; it's pointless
Those tabs weren't made by us; people were complaining that we weren't going "in depth" enough into the intro so we just decided to put up a link to a tab for the intro. They're not completely right, but they should give you an idea as to how the intro should go.
Well...I'm Joe and in the duet Robin played the 1st part. So, I don't know what he does. Just play the chords open; if anything the fuller sound fits better for a worship setting.
You should leave the bottom two strings open if you want a fuller sound, but sometimes you could mute them (like I do) if you want a more muffled, chilled out sound. It depends on preference but what you do will vastly affect the dynamics of the chorus.
Also, some chords are just impossible to do without muting the strings e.g. the stretchy chords
Haha I second that Joe or Robin. To be honest The answer was the 1st christian song I learned I think. When I first tried to learn it, it didnt make sense for the verse and pre chorus, but when I saw my friends play it i figured it out. Then two months later I watched this video and learned the verse and pre chorus and intro. I learned the intro by ear and watching your fingers lol.
Uh...there's no reason to call people stupid haha. But regardless, this song is not for beginners so if you're a beginner, then don't learn the song? Lol
If you're at least somewhat solid on guitar you should know some things about chord progressions and whatnot so blaming the video for not being able to teach something beyond you is kind of dumb. It's as if you fall of a bike the first time you ride on and then blame the bike ==;;
Dips ojkoo lol wow at least hey posted the tutorial even though some parts were hard to learn i learned it by ear dont be lazy and learn by ear and they worked their butt off to post this tutorial God bless Robin and Joe
Quite some controversy this tutorial generated. I liked it and my buddy and I are practicing this song coz its got all the ingredients needed for good practice(stretching, use of capo, picking, strumming etc). As to ramenrobot making a joke about shane bernard not being able to teach, I thought that was pretty funny and we laughed our heads off. I'm a pastor's kid as well but I think its how you live your life that counts not just a title. We have a lot of screwed up pastors as well :)
God still loves us the same way. ppl think that PK's would be more "holy" or more of a christian but thats false. Dont think that im wrong because im also a pastor's kid. I used to think that i get speical previlages but i then realized that it wont matter once we get to heaven. i've met a lot of screwed up pastors kid who said the same thing you did .Thats what make a lot of pastor kids corrupted.
dude, at least he's trying to teach us. Its really nice of him to try to teach us because he took the time to do that. Also why r u boasting that ur a pastor's kid? I think there is no difference if your a pastor's kid or not.
For the song other than the intro we put in chord charts which is more than enough. The idea for this tutorial was to simply give a different point of view for the song. We're not going to spoon feed you every single note that you pick and every single string, every single slide, every palm mute. Honestly, if you can't figure this out by watching, I suggest you go practice. Not to say people suck, but this is definitely not a beginner's song.

hey budy..... you cant teach either... lets try learning the song before you try and teach..... at this point shane can probably teach better and FYI.... shane can teach... maybe ur learning area of the brain is just defective... and by the way try to but a guitar that doesnt sound like a mandoline. some parts are good. i have to say.... but before u trash talk shane and how he cant teach u learn how to teach too first.
I'll learn how to teach as soon as you learn that Christians don't insult and judge people needlessly, especially for something that was intended as a joke.
You're a really angry guy but I suspect you're just having a bad day or something. God bless!
Yo soo helpful~~ Thx man i owe you.. if you live in NJ i can pretty much pay you a small donation for such gift you gave us...Thanks i can play this song not perfect but some wat of it cuz of you. once again thank you and God bless~
A tutorial will be out soon. Sorry it's taking so long but I just can't seem to find time these days what with high school and all but it'll come out so please be patient. Until then, go to shanebweb(.)com for tabs. They're a bit incorrect but they'll give a general idea of how to play it.
for acoustics, I personally think Taylor is one or the best. Takamine is also a good brand. You also want a great set of strings that ring, and have a bright sound.
It's really based on preference but I like Breedloves, Taylors, some Parkwoods, and some Larrivees. Not all guitars are the same though, so you should experiment yourself to see what's the best for you.
There are chord charts. It can't get any simpler than that. If you're referring to the intro, I'm considering making another tutorial for that part specifically. Until then, just look up tabs. It's not that hard.
Hey Robin. I've learned the 2nd guitar from watching Joe. And Im trying to learn 1st. I found 2nd guitar tab, but I can't find 1st guitar tab. Can you show me where? (Meanwhile, I'll just try to learn by watching but tab will help lot. thanks)
Again, we do not have tabs for the first guitar part nor will we ever make one. Please use the tutorial. We both feel it's good enough. If you have a really big problem, just message me and I'll help as much as I can until you get the song.
What are the first chords to the intro. I have the song down though, i just want to spice it up a little bit more. great tutorial, u guys are pretty awesome.
to make that muted sound(it's called palm muting for future reference), put the side of your hand on the bridge. if you do that and pick, you'll find it makes that sound. try and get used to picking while keeping your hand in a position so that when you down pick(you can't palm mute while up picking), your hand is on the bridge at the time your pick hits the string.
good job, only thing is that part where you slide to the 11th fret and do a scale thing there, you might want to break that down a little. you are really good at guitar, keep playing for the Lord!
thats really the main way i like to show vids. cuz the way i learned how to play this along with a lot of other songs i know is by watching other people play it. this also isnt the hardest song in the world so it really doesnt require any explanation really. the chord charts are there and i did the best i could with the references so i hope this helped anyways.
Hello, Great VIDEO... it helped me alot learning the song... One question tho... The first part of your intro... does the code change in every four beats? Especially from Bb to A and going back to C#m... Jus a lil confused cuz it sounds great but doesn't seem to fall in exact beats...
lol ill help on this one. yes every chord is in a 4/4 so it changes every 4 beats. if it doesnt seem like it then its my fault within playing but yes it is every 4 beats. im not always the greatest when it comes to tempo and keeping the beats and ill either slow down or speed up from time to time. but i think its reletivly well kept within time so just listen for it.
Hello, thx for the reply. Other than the part I had the question about, your timing and strum is uber good. I am not sure I can play exactly like you anyway lol... But I did get the gist of it and this video is by far one of the best I've watched! Hope you do some more of these! God bless you!!
not sure of what u mean by "it" but to mute any string u just put any part of your finger on it so no note comes out when u strum it. doesnt matter how u do touch the string, just as long as u r without pressing it down
this video really helped me out. thanks to all who was involved in the making of the video, thanks to shane and shane who wrote the song, and above all thanks to God for giving us all a reason to play and sing this song.
Guys great job i had the chance to see shane and shane at student life in dallas about 2 years ago and i had never heard of them and they ended up playing this song and i fell in love with it so i decided to pick up the guitar and i have always wanted it and your so right when you said shane cant teach lol because he has no clue what to call the chords but yall rock jw can you send me those tabs for the intro im having a little trouble seeing your fingers and what your picking
triple, double, quadruple, it's all the same. they're all very fast strums. i'd advise you to start out with thinner picks. dunlop tortexes are perfect. double strums are done with your wrist. it's all in your wrist. so trying strumming at slower paces and move faster and faster.
Sounds great but I'm sorry I don't think you did a great job teaching eaither... for next time spend some time showing the positions you are playing.
Thanks though!

You should leave the bottom two strings open if you want a fuller sound, but sometimes you could mute them (like I do) if you want a more muffled, chilled out sound. It depends on preference but what you do will vastly affect the dynamics of the chorus.

It's really based on preference but I like Breedloves, Taylors, some Parkwoods, and some Larrivees. Not all guitars are the same though, so you should experiment yourself to see what's the best for you.

um can u explain the parts like what frets to play and stuff plzz?
dhong741 4 years ago
There are chord charts. It can't get any simpler than that. If you're referring to the intro, I'm considering making another tutorial for that part specifically. Until then, just look up tabs. It's not that hard.

Hey Robin. I've learned the 2nd guitar from watching Joe. And Im trying to learn 1st. I found 2nd guitar tab, but I can't find 1st guitar tab. Can you show me where? (Meanwhile, I'll just try to learn by watching but tab will help lot. thanks)
oldboy911 4 years ago
Again, we do not have tabs for the first guitar part nor will we ever make one. Please use the tutorial. We both feel it's good enough. If you have a really big problem, just message me and I'll help as much as I can until you get the song.

What are the first chords to the intro. I have the song down though, i just want to spice it up a little bit more. great tutorial, u guys are pretty awesome.
KLJ589 4 years ago
The intro picking bits come from the verse chords
ramenrobot 4 years ago
sorry i deleted your comment concerning the hammer-on on the verse
he hammers from the second fret to the fourth fret on the E string. it's hard to see because he uses his thumb
ramenrobot 4 years ago
hm. Just saw a kid that looked an awful lot like robin at school. He doesn't happen to go to school in evanston does he?

im having trouble with the 3 chord in the intro
ddelgado456 4 years ago
E/G# (Relevant to Capo 2)
e-0 D-2
B-0 A-x
G-4 E-4
You'll find the intro picking is directly relevant to the verse chords so that might help if you're having trouble

hey mate.great tutorial..how do u make that muted sound?
thanks..keep it up!
rmcelroy 4 years ago
hey. robin thanks you for the compliment =)
to make that muted sound(it's called palm muting for future reference), put the side of your hand on the bridge. if you do that and pick, you'll find it makes that sound. try and get used to picking while keeping your hand in a position so that when you down pick(you can't palm mute while up picking), your hand is on the bridge at the time your pick hits the string.

xdivinexbladex 4 years ago
good job, only thing is that part where you slide to the 11th fret and do a scale thing there, you might want to break that down a little. you are really good at guitar, keep playing for the Lord!

thanks for the tip
xdivinexbladex 4 years ago
well ur a good guitar player but you didnt really show how you play it. you just played it slowly
jkim519 4 years ago
thats really the main way i like to show vids. cuz the way i learned how to play this along with a lot of other songs i know is by watching other people play it. this also isnt the hardest song in the world so it really doesnt require any explanation really. the chord charts are there and i did the best i could with the references so i hope this helped anyways.

Hello, Great VIDEO... it helped me alot learning the song... One question tho... The first part of your intro... does the code change in every four beats? Especially from Bb to A and going back to C#m... Jus a lil confused cuz it sounds great but doesn't seem to fall in exact beats...
jem7v326 4 years ago
lol ill help on this one. yes every chord is in a 4/4 so it changes every 4 beats. if it doesnt seem like it then its my fault within playing but yes it is every 4 beats. im not always the greatest when it comes to tempo and keeping the beats and ill either slow down or speed up from time to time. but i think its reletivly well kept within time so just listen for it.
xdivinexbladex 4 years ago
Hello, thx for the reply. Other than the part I had the question about, your timing and strum is uber good. I am not sure I can play exactly like you anyway lol... But I did get the gist of it and this video is by far one of the best I've watched! Hope you do some more of these! God bless you!!

how do u mute it
andygimboo 4 years ago
not sure of what u mean by "it" but to mute any string u just put any part of your finger on it so no note comes out when u strum it. doesnt matter how u do touch the string, just as long as u r without pressing it down
xdivinexbladex 4 years ago
this video really helped me out. thanks to all who was involved in the making of the video, thanks to shane and shane who wrote the song, and above all thanks to God for giving us all a reason to play and sing this song.
kpridefoo 4 years ago
yes. the E and B string are muted during the chorus except the first chord.
ramenrobot 4 years ago
when i play it, i keep on strumming the bottom e string nd it sounds weird, do i mute it or somethin
andygimboo 4 years ago
you are awsome!

the tab for the intro can be found on shanebwebdotcom. but only use that tab for the intro. why? because it's wrong for every other part.
ramenrobot 4 years ago

triple, double, quadruple, it's all the same. they're all very fast strums. i'd advise you to start out with thinner picks. dunlop tortexes are perfect. double strums are done with your wrist. it's all in your wrist. so trying strumming at slower paces and move faster and faster.
