Wow, you must have taken great care of yours for it to have lived for 4 years! Hamsters aren't normally vocal though.

Syrians are awesome! I've been trying for years here in the Central Valley of California to get another one after mine died at 4 years of age. They are very vocal, affectionate, smart and they can learn tricks too!
