First of all, to get the terms straight, that guy was interpreting, not translating. Second, the interpreter's job is NOT to reproduce in full the intonations of the speaker; he is the speaker's voice in the target language, but he's not a voice actor. And third, interpreters take notes so they don't end up forgetting important details of what was just said. So, maybe you should study up on your interpreting ABCs before criticizing professionals like this one.

A spelling bee is where kids memorize how to spell difficult words. I hold to the belief that you shouldn't have to study for hours a day to be able to hear a word and then know how to spell it. Spanish, for example. If you even took a beginners spanish class, and then someone slowly enunciated the most difficult and longest spanish word to you, I bet you could get it right. Because it goes on a phonetic system and not some BS unnesessarily comnplex and illogical system.
