He was a writer but he spent a big part of his life in jail for writing his books and at the period of time he lived in, he was pronounced "too freaky".
now u can see the same kind of books and comics on sale and in the internet.
Time changes.
hmm...maybe my teacher was a freak, and im pretty sure he was
which sounds fucked up, but thats the impression i ended up with after being tought modern art history in my art school:)so here its "a criminal art" is still can be an art, althought the creator is gonna end up behind the bars
U r right, but so called criminal art is still an art, basicly if somebody is a sicko and that somebody catches people on streets and cut em in pieces at home, then take pictures of it, marked with his/her name tag - its still an art! art is everything somebody produces to affect people's emotions in any way, harms it other people or not(which gives emotions too again)
I'm a bit late on this, but I strongly disagree. Art involves creativity and thought, something that was lacking in this bomb-in-the-ROM piece. Everything emotionally affects people in some way. Does that mean everything is art? A line has to be drawn somewhere. Every art form involves creativity and at least a bit of talent. That's why making fake bombs is not art.
Still, if you look at it again, placing a fake bomb in some public place is art, because art is everything what affects people's emotions, so here that's if you scare somebody it's a valuable piece of art too.
Sounds ridicilous but it's true, only for the modern art of course.
How did this guy get into our country?!!! Besides having such bad taste he was arrested, he neglected to think about all the people who have lost their loved ones through acts of terrorism. I just met a man last week (in Toronto) who lost his 26 year old niece in 9-11. ART ISN'T AN EXCUSE TO HURT PEOPLE. You have to wonder why there isn't a psycho-analysis test when someone is given temporary residency. WAKE UP CANADA! Who else is here that shouldn't be?
first of all he wasn't arrested, he turned himself in. (incidentally, he's out on bail and I was drinking with him two nights ago) second of all I'm not sure how you're blaming an art student for september 11th.
You should be more careful about your immigrants-go-home stance. It's not PC and could be considered racist. Btw, no one is saying that art is an excuse to hurt people. No one got hurt by this sculpture.
Taxpayers money goes to art anyway. Canada has a whole welfare system devoted to artists. Even people wanted more say in what is art, they should be patronizing it.
It's part of Canadians' assumptions about Canadian jails being based on American television and stuff. Canadian jails don't have much of a sodomy scene.
The Marquis de Sade's memoirs are judged by most to be true literature. He did most of his writings while in jail and are from his exploits with paid prostitutes.
You are correct that the definition of what is freaky changes with time, but truth is eternal.
He was not sufficiently educated to be a serious artist. The phrase "Me and my friends" is not proper English. He should go back to school....probably grade 6.
Also...He should consider the "bum-bang" just another form of art.
Maybe you need to be sufficiently educated in criticizing somebody, so here it is: picking apart somebody's grammar, especially when it's in a context where perfect grammar isn't important and casual language will do, is silly and makes it look like you have no actual point to make. I'm sure you've got something more interesting and substantial to contribute. Be ballsy about it.
Actually, I disagree. This person is supposed to be an "educated" artist, working toward a post secondary designation. Even Eliza Doolittle came to know that grammar is a part of how one displays one's education. (Sorry...the incorrect application of grammar is one of my pet peeves)
To those who don't understand us properly, we say with an irreducible scorn: "The situationists of which you believe yourselves perhaps to be the judges, will one day judge you. We await the turning point which is the inevitable liquidation of the world of privation, in all its forms. Such are our goals, and these will be the future goals of humanity."

Hi Fred part 3
Remember Donatien Alphonse-François de Sade?

Dear ELFfromToronto; Respectfully your definition of modern art here is nonsense.
Modern or contemporary art means art produced in the last 250 years.
When you commit an act that you know will induce harm on unwilling participants; it is still called a criminal act.
Thank you.

why does your animation look/sound like a bad version of Sims characters?

2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;

Remember personal freedoms have limitations for the benefit of all.
You can not yell fire in a crowded theatre just to express your freedom of speech.
You can not express yourself at the harm of unwilling others

Maybe he could make $100,000 from his "art" and donate it to the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research.
missorangebelly 4 years ago 3
The jerk/artist wasted a lot of taxpayers money in police resources and caused an AIDS fundraiser to be cancelled in Toronto.
A very selfish act.

I wonder why anal rape seems like a valid punnishment for any possible criminal act.
people are always like "have fun being someones bitch in jail, that'll show you something..."
It's a joke that indorses strong murderers and rapists as authority figures.

thank you!
finally someone coming out against anal rape.

Salem's loft believes that great art makes thinking people think and unthinking people angry
mohip050 4 years ago
Only time and the consensus of an unbiased art community will tell if this is great art and not Salem's loft.
Calling this art is like calling mass produced ikea furniture hand crafted one of a kind originals.

Hi ELF; I guess you can't sleep well tonight either!!
Tolstoy said that true art is expressing personal opinion and feeling with sound, colour, music and the written word.
No eminent critic of art would agree that the suffering of an unwilling participant can be included as art.
A photo of a infant being raped by an adult is true art according to your definition; and this can NEVER be so.
