I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, I no longer live there..I miss my home alot but I don't want to live there anymore..It has gone down hill alot..it's sad to see what has happened to that once beautiful place
I just got back from spending a month with my fiancé who lives in Pittsburgh. I used to love England and thought it would be hard to call another place home. I was so wrong. Pittsburgh has won my heart and I can't wait to move there in Summer 2012! I dont want to spend another second in England, but I have to finish my studies here :( Oh well. I can't wait to come home to PA! :)
I unfortunately have lived in Florida for over 27 years and still miss the Pgh. I lived in the suburbs and it only took 15-20 minutes to get downtown by bus or car. Never had a problem with the people. In fact my son moved back to Pgh because he hated Florida and loved the atmosphere and the educational opportunities. I enjoyed the song and many of the places shown brought back memories of times past. Nothing like it anywhere else.
No other place represents all America has been, where it started, where it has come and where it is going. Its people came from around the world to build this city and give it a character, a personality and humanity like no other. Pittsburgh's people are its life -- its ongoing life.
Many of its people have now departed to all parts of the world. They haven't left the city, its character or its values behind; they've taken it all with them to share.
Pittsburgh has been voted the most livable city in America at least twice in recent years; Schools are great, housing very affordable, crime relatively low for a city its size, has a great symphony orchestra, great ballet theater, great hiking and bike trails. The people are down to earth. It's one of the prettiest cities in the country and was voted one of the most scenic in the world. Great view entering city at night and from atop Mt Washington. Lived in NY/NJ 35 yrs, but I miss my city.
@jrbiar i have to agree with you. Even though i do not live in the city i still live in the county. I also attend one of the best high schools in the nation Central Catholic. People should read up on their facts before the claim anything.
Pittsburgh is a nice place to visit, but that's about all. The schools suck, taxes are a lot for how small the houses are, and I don't know if it's just me, but the quality of people here has gone down recently.
@roothead1 While I respect your opinion, I think that you might be missing something. To a great deal of the region's residents, "Pittsburgh" means a far greater area than the City, proper. If you simply observe people's profiles on facebook, you will see that many folks from surrounding counties claim Pittsburgh as their home. Within the Greater Pittsburgh Region exists some of the best schools and finest residential areas in the country.
@jrbari Agreed...Most people in iconic metro areas say that they are from the name of the major city of their respective areas. Pittsburgh and it's surrounding areas get very high marks from me.... And I've lived in various cities in five different states throughout my life..
@roothead1 lol if you think the quality of people of Pittsburgh has gone down check out where I live. haha I live in the 717 -Harrisburg. IT sucks! Almost everyone is rude and tends to think that you owe them something. I always make a new friend every time I venture out to Pittsburgh. No issues with anyone out there. Of course no place on earth is perfect. I'm moving to Pittsburgh soon to either to Bethel Park or Robinson. When you refer to schools are you talking about colleges or what?

this city is the best one in the world. Our people all come together for a simple football game, and cheer for the same team. Not one person in 'burgh dares to say anything bad about it. Why would they want to? there isn't anything bad!
I live in the south now (i'm trying to convince my mom to move back up) but i still throw a punch every time someone says something bad about pittsburgh. And i always am told 'i'm not a guy' when i say 'yinz guys!' to my friends....

I've spent 21 years in Pittsburgh, 7 years in Chicago, 2 years in Amsterdam and 6 months in Miami. Pittsburgh is pretty, the people are generally nice and the colleges and universites are top notch, but Pittsburgh is an awful city! While it has improved over the last ten years or so, it is far from being a cosmopolitan and diverse city. I can't wait to escape!

I am grew up in Charleston, WV and I am a WVU grad, now living in Perth Australia. I have been a life long Steelers, Pirates and Pengiuns fan. I spent a lot of time in Pittsburgh while at WVU. I have to give the city credit, it is much better now than in the early 1980's. From the Land Down Under- Let's Goooo Mountaineers!
Great version, Jimmy. I love Pittsburgh, but, hey that's easy if you've been or live there. I have a terrible towel banner on my car. Imagine that! In Rugby mad New Zealand! When I explain, they don't get it. No one ever does, if they don't love Pittsburgh.
I was born, raised and still live in Pittsburgh for 60 Years... I just LOVE PITTSBURGH!!! I hope more and more people come and visit Pittsburgh, we are the most friendliest people in the world!!
I'm a Brit and we're really into our soccer, but I finally got to a Steelers game last season and it was unreal. The passion for the team and the atmosphere in the stadium blew me away, it lived up to everything I thought it would be.
And the city? . . fantastic place, everyone we got talking to over the week was friendly, helpful, always wanted to linger and chat . . even though our accents confused folk on occasion! Pittsburgh won our hearts . . a return trip can't come soon enough.
@yamwolfie yh ture! im a brit and a huge packers fan in in wisconsin that are is terrible!!!! literally all of the people there are overweight they are pretty helpfull though, and all you can see it trees!!! and its tiny!!!
I love my city with all my heart, despite what people say about us, being a piss poor town with no money. You got to admit that really hurts when someone talks bad about your city. it's sad nobody wants to give us the benefit of the doubt. Just because were not a large city, NY or Philly.
ive been around the country from new york to atl to houston over to dallas and back to chicago..but my city is unique and beautiful and i have so much pride for it! best city ever!
how can anyone not love da' burgh? i live in colorado, but pittsburgh will always be my home. i miss you dearly city of champions, bridges and box that holds my heart when im gone.
i miss pittsburgh too:( i visit my family in pittsburgh every couple of months and i don't get that feeling of being where you belong unless i'm in da burgh' i look forward to hopefully moving in 4 yrs:)
ive been to every southern city from charleston to biloxi and i gotta say, pittsburgh beats em all hands down. it really is a gorgeous city, its just smaller than most major metropolitan cities. the majority of 'pittsburghers' live in its metro area and they have one of the funniest accents ever. lol the words they use.
Been to Pittsburgh a few times. I'm a die hard Steelers fan. I'm from Los Angeles and it seems each time I go to Pittsburgh it gets more and more diverse with the different cultures. I love Pittsburgh. My second home. Too bad it gets real cold there or else I might consider moving to the Burgh. Best view is going through Ft. Pitt tunnel.
@MrBoydLandas I just moved to the burgh from orlando. And its friggin freezing and im surrounded by an insane amount of snow. but i honestly got use to it pretty fast. i use to hate the cold now i kinda like it.
Sure it's nice compared to Philly.. I'd choose Hell over Philly. Maybe you've never lived anywhere else? I forgive you.. Yinz love the Burg cause you don't know any better.
The scenery is nice. However the obnoxious Steelers/Pens fans pretty much make this a city to avoid at all costs! I mean come on, they are just games, not some religion!
1) It's gorgeous, the city itself and the surrounding scenery.
2) There's lot's of stuff to do, weather you just want to walk around, or take the incline up to Mt. Washington and get outstanding views of the city while eating some delicious ice cream or pizza, or go boating in the 3 rivers surrounding the city
@breakawayfrp There are so many reasons to suggest you visit Pittsburgh that they cannot possibly be listed. In every corner its just perfect. Very modern, but always retaining that old school class.
went to pittsburgh 2 weeks ago and i got to say what a beautiful town. pnc park is the nicest ball park i have been to and ive been to a lot of them! love that primanti bros. sandwich and the iron city beers!
The Secret is Out... Pittsburgh was without question The Best Kept Secret In The World!!! Well by far no more... Its time to come home to a city that continues to reinvent itself. This city has it all, a low cost of living, an amazing cultural district, great museums, countless colleges and universities, a world class health care system, and ofcourse its people. Come home to Pittsburgh, its a great place to raise a family.
Pittsburgh...A town with so much of a past. I miss living there. Born and Raised in a suberb of Pittsburgh, till my teen years. I moved south and never went back, found a Life Here! But a huge piece of Pittsburgh still Lives in my Heart. Go Steelers! Number One!!! Go Penguins! Number One!!! Go Pirates, Still Trying to Climb Back Up That Ladder...
The subway isn't even really a subway, since most of the tracks are above ground. Pittsburgh used to have the largest Trolly system in the nation before the Port Authority got a hold of it. The whole tunnel building process was really unneccessary. The Fort Wayne Bridge about three blocks away from the tunnel under the river is a double tiered track bridge which is owned by Northfolk Southern. They just fixed the bridge a few years back and don't use the second tier.
FYI - I've lived in the burgh for over 20 plus years, and Pittsburgh has over 400 bridges, making it the "City of Bridges" in the USA! No other city like Pittsburgh! GO STEELERS! :-)
Pittsburgh, my beloved hometown, oh how I MISS YOU! There's no place like Pittsburgh! Lived in Germany, Florida, Virginia Beach, and now Texas but Pittsburgh is HOME! Jimmy, thanks for writing about our great city! <3 =)
Yeah, Jimmy is "MY MAN" and the Burgh is "MY TOWN". Lived in Detroit, Cleveland, Frisco area, to name a few and came back to Pittsburgh cause there's no better town in this country to raise a family. The Burgh has all the big city amenities, the small town ambiance and safety, and such character ... oooh, THE CHARACTER!! What a town!
The 'BURGH!!!! I Remember bringing a car full of college mates up from WVU....2 of them where from Philly. When they cam thru that tunnell it was pure PANDAMONIUM!! I'm Proud to Live here. How 'bout 'em Stillers Huh?
I'm from Nassau, The Bahamas and I love Pittsburgh. I go back every year to watch the Steelers and enjoy the city. Its the greatest little city in Anerica. If I moved from the Bahamas, I would live and die in Pittsburgh. I am part of the Steeler Nation and always will be.
Born in Pittsburgh. Mom moved us to Orlando in 1997. Returned in 2002.
No place like it. I love Pittsburgh and everything about it. Such a homely, modest place with homely modest people with a rabid love for the Black and Gold. You know what they say, you may leave Pittsburgh, but Pittsburgh never leaves you.
They don't call it the most livable city for nothing. Go Stillers. Go Guins. Go Buccos. And Hail to Pitt.
Being from the south and I have been to the Burgh many times the people are very friendly

I love my city with all my heart, despite what people say about us, being a piss poor town with no money. You got to admit that really hurts when someone talks bad about your city. it's sad nobody wants to give us the benefit of the doubt. Just because were not a large city, NY or Philly.

ive been to every southern city from charleston to biloxi and i gotta say, pittsburgh beats em all hands down. it really is a gorgeous city, its just smaller than most major metropolitan cities. the majority of 'pittsburghers' live in its metro area and they have one of the funniest accents ever. lol the words they use.

MrBoydLandas 2 years ago 4
@MrBoydLandas I just moved to the burgh from orlando. And its friggin freezing and im surrounded by an insane amount of snow. but i honestly got use to it pretty fast. i use to hate the cold now i kinda like it.

Sure it's nice compared to Philly.. I'd choose Hell over Philly. Maybe you've never lived anywhere else? I forgive you.. Yinz love the Burg cause you don't know any better.

Are you sure it's not a religion? I'm pretty sure it is. Yinz can be fans too. We share ya know.

The scenery is nice. However the obnoxious Steelers/Pens fans pretty much make this a city to avoid at all costs! I mean come on, they are just games, not some religion!

breakawayfrp 2 years ago
Good reasons to visit Pittsburgh?
1) It's gorgeous, the city itself and the surrounding scenery.
2) There's lot's of stuff to do, weather you just want to walk around, or take the incline up to Mt. Washington and get outstanding views of the city while eating some delicious ice cream or pizza, or go boating in the 3 rivers surrounding the city
3) The people are great.
4) Kennywood.
I can keep going if you want.

@breakawayfrp There are so many reasons to suggest you visit Pittsburgh that they cannot possibly be listed. In every corner its just perfect. Very modern, but always retaining that old school class.

I lived in Pittsburgh for 18 years and never once took the subway to nowhere. Incline yes, subway never.
Maybe when finish the station by the stadium someone will actually ride it. Go 'Lers
petr901 2 years ago
The subway isn't even really a subway, since most of the tracks are above ground. Pittsburgh used to have the largest Trolly system in the nation before the Port Authority got a hold of it. The whole tunnel building process was really unneccessary. The Fort Wayne Bridge about three blocks away from the tunnel under the river is a double tiered track bridge which is owned by Northfolk Southern. They just fixed the bridge a few years back and don't use the second tier.
jhn128 2 years ago
FYI - I've lived in the burgh for over 20 plus years, and Pittsburgh has over 400 bridges, making it the "City of Bridges" in the USA! No other city like Pittsburgh! GO STEELERS! :-)
