  • Thanks for the demo! I watched your other video on the moog ep-2 expression pedal. The moog IS compatible with the RE-20, and would be the one you would recommend for the money, right? I just want an expression pedal to go with the RE-20 I just picked up strictly for home use, no gigging.

  • Plywood SQUIER!

  • @hivesrock

Solid balsa wood, baby. Only the best.

  • its called dont waste your money on a space echo. The only real space echo are the ones with the real tape inside which are the original crisp sound of vintage delay/reverb - the space echoes' which pink floyd used. if your going to get either or, throw the space echo on a shuttle to space and put your notes through a giga delay.

  • @reynanr

Sure, I mean, I bet we all could spend $600 on a vintage Space Echo unit and lug it around for practices and gigs, you know, whatever.

  • @reynanr Don't waste a money on an original Roland space echo or this RE-20? The originals are very nice and sound awesome but they are very prone to mechanical failure. Also, there was nothing "crisp" about the originals. For the price, you can't beat the RE-20. It doesn't sound as good as the older Roland space echoes, but it gets you about 90% there, which is close enough for me.

  • @reynanr I'm pretty sure Floyd used Binson Echorecs - which aren't tape.

  • You kick ass for playing Cave In!

  • @EverydayRockets

Thank you! They're a huge influence of mine. The riff from "Innuendo And Out The Other" (at 4:12 for those who don't know) is one of my absolute favorite guitar melodies.

  • no presets on the Space Echo?

  • @joelg125

    Unfortunately, no.

  • @joelg125

"There were no Delay Presets in medieval times hence there are no presets AT medieval times"

  • wat kinda music do u usethis instrument for

  • Great comparison. I wonder if the Space Echo rings out even after the pedal is disengaged like the Giga Delay? I'm in need of that feature, just for the smoothness. Thanks!

  • @surgubben

Yes, the RE-20 is the same as the DD-20 in this regard.

  • Space echo please, but the loop function on the giga is great

  • Innuendo and out the Other !

  • whats the difference between echo and delay. please reply

  • @shane0jack

The earliest "echo" effects were boxes with a loop of magnetic tape inside which played back anything fed through it on multiple tape heads (in this case, the Roland RE-201 Space Echo). Nowadays, "Echo" is a term that's interchangeable with both "reverb" and "delay", although the latter two are more specific. A company like Boss or Line 6 might call a delay pedal an "echo" to elicit a response of, "Hey, this should sound like a tape echo unit from the 60's" from buyers.

  • can the dd-20 do the pitch shifting thing when you fiddle with the time knob? or at least on some modes? im just about set on getting the dd-20, but I want a delay that can do that divebomb trick that EVH does with his univox delay at the end of eruption.

  • @rockfreak611 Yes sir, it can. I wasn't aware that Van Halen had used that effect--but the DD-20 certainly is capable of it.

  • Hey mate ! thanks for the demo, it's very instructive. I'm just wondering why u were using a tap tempo knowing that the DD-20 has already one ?

ps : I'm getting mine tomorrow

  • @N3wNaKeD

It's out of habit more than anything else. I've had that custom FS-5U switch almost as long as I've had the DD-20. It's annoying holding down the "memory/tap" pedal on the right side to switch between functions. Of course, I could use the little tap button on top of the DD-20 as well, but whatever.

  • @penguinrock So u suggest I keep my FS-5U ! Good to know ;-D.. Thanks

  • what a rad vid! awesome

  • What are some of your DD-20 Delay Settings?

  • @posiedonpowertrio

I'm constantly shifting around my stored memory settings in the DD-20. I have the Reverse mode saved into two of the memory banks and I'm using that more than any other feature, but I use my Space Echo overall about 10 times as much as my DD-20. I like the idea of having two delay pedals to work with, but I'm thinking about downgrading by swapping the DD-20 for a DD-7 (and using it for Reverse delay).

  • Nice dude! Love all your vids!
