I just got a case of Nugget Nectar. I Really like it. When it comes to the so called big three around this time of year (Founder's Double Trouble, Bell's HopSlam, and Troeg's Nugget Nectar), I don't know which one I like the most. I would probably have to do a side by side taste test of the three. I know you did a review of those three together previously. All three are Easy A graded beers though. I might even say I'd give all three A+'s. Will you be reviewing this year's batch of Nugget Nectar?
...and sessionable even at 7.5% ABV so you can enjoy more than (3) at a time before being blown-out for the night. Great DIPA Chris - glad you rated it highly...I would also. Extremely enjoyable and drinkable. Lots of flavor, lighter mouthfeel and not overly carbonated...just a really smooth 'Junior' or 'Extra' IPA. Cheers!
Thanks! I have told my friends that NN is very close to HS. Happily, we have lots of NN available at our Total Wine outlets. I was there today and saw a couple of pallets of cases of NN and purchased one case along with a case of Bell's Consecrator Doppelbock, 2 more 6-packs of HopSlam, batch 10126, and four 24oz cans of my beloved Chelada. I have a totally open palate when it comes to beers. I like your reviews.
@NathanH5 Yeah NN is a great beer and one of the best American IPA's. Although its very different from HS but at the same time great in its own ways. And their Dopplebock is spot on good as well! DIdnt realize that one was out yet. Ill have to pick up a case myself. Cheers
Great Review!. Was lucky enough to try this and a few other eastcoast beers. Being in Cali my idea of Eastcoast IPA's was the DFH malty over balanced style. But i was proven wrong with this one and a few others. My buddy traded for some of this I was surprised how hoppy these eastcoast ipa's were. Very impressed. Nugget Nectar is one of those beers I could drink everyday. Wish i had more access to this beer.
@truthisrare777 Yeah DFH is a bad example of a good East Coast IPA. Nugget Nectar is really good and if you can find it Smuttynose Big A IIPA is a great one as well
@BeerGeekNation Yea DFH to me almost killed it for me but my buddy traded for this, hopslam, double trouble, artic panzer and we killed it this weekend east/midwest style. All amazing beers. But this beer stood out to me as a great everyday drinker. Easy to drink. The smuttynose is that distributed to cali or is that one i would have to trade for? I remember the imasofats talking about it.
Since I saw reviews of this brew last year, I have been dying to try it. But I don't get Tröegs beers in Denmark. The label is also awsome looking. Nice to see a review in daylight! Yet another great review Chris! Cheers and BGN!!
@TheMasterOfHoppets Yeah i always thought this label would be a great beer geek tattoo. Maybe w could trade for some. I get it fresh from the brewery down the street from me
I love hoppy beers like this that smell and taste like tropical fruits as opposed to just citrus. I'm surprised more breweris don't use these hop varieties because they obviously match up very well. This will probably make your Top 10 of 2011 list I bet!
@ChadzBeerReviews I agree 100%, I enjoy IPAs with more sweet tropical fruit notes rather then all piney bitter ness. The midwest seems to have mastered this style and Troegs blended it nicely with the East coast style IPA
@BeerGeekNation why as a matter of fact I just got back from Churchkey in DC having firkin and scratch series 37-40. Tasty brew wrote about it on my blog Really dug Scratch #39 but that's just me. Drink up!
@thomass0729 Yeah the only way to get this out in Cali is via trade. I think the Beertube community is growing every day and eventually we will be respected as much as the beer bloggers are. Honestly I would much rather see a beer then read about it. And the packaging on this one is one of my favs and I walwys though it would make a great tattoo
I am getting my case of hopslam today and have never even tried it before. I hope all you reviewers are right about it being one of the best beers out there. I dont think I'll be disappointed according to all the good things I've heard about it
I'm still waiting for my local shop to get this in, sadly in my part of NJ I can only get it in bombers...lame. The newest batch of Founders Double Trouble came out a few weeks ago and has really blown me away, It has become my favorite double ipa as of recent. As for the hopslam I have never had it sadly, but after all the hype on BA I have a feeling I will be underwhelmed. I got a bottle of Hop'solutely to try today as well, have you had it?
@ivanawasthi Yah the bombers were just released at the brewery last week so youll prob see them soon. Double Trouble is an amazing beer that competes with Hopslam! Its harder for me to get around here though for some reason

Great review!

@SnobbyBeer Yeah this is one of my favorite releases from them. Just wish it was year round!
BeerGeekNation 11 months ago
I don't like to pick superlatives, but this may be the greatest beer ever.
RobertDoosh 1 year ago
@RobertDoosh HAHA, yeah its a great IPA. It needs to be a year round for them! They dont have a year round ipa so this would fit the bill nicely.

I remember Mark from the Hopry reviewing this.
Interesting, so this is sweet by dry from the hops? Sounds somewhat like the Hopslam, minus the citrus.

Wow I wish I could get this in California, maybe I'll have to get this one in a beer trade.
The craft beer industry owes a lot to youtube and the fact that we all get together and
promote their beers.
I love Troegs packaging for their Nugget Nectar, something about it is very appealing to me.

Can't wait to try this one and Hopslam fresh. Finally some decent IPAs from the midwest and east coast. ;)
This one sounds like it's hop forward but balanced.

how does this compare to like a "lagunitas hop stoopid" ? thanks!
Brionkendo 1 year ago
@Brionkendo Hop stoopid has a lot more pine and citrus to it then this beer does. The hop profile on this one tends to be more sweet then bitter
BeerGeekNation 1 year ago
i think this beer is pretty solid but i like it better on draft. good review.

I thought this beer had great aroma, but weak on the body and flavor. It's also not worth the cost.
