  • They made a great song and made it look stupid and trippy.

  • isnt acid fun?

  • that awkward moment when your standing in front of recruiters in your underwear....

  • Haha, i would like to join in the army for my new chin xD

  • more touching in the movie!

  • the statue of LIBERTY is indeed very heavy

  • this kinda reminds me of The Wall, but not in cartoon format

    awesome, awesome stuff

  • first time i saw this in theatres i was stoned off my ass...imagin watching that scene when u already are seeing this lol

  • ...just 2 words....

    Fuck. Wars. :(

  • 'So learn french... learn french or diee"

  • This is an awesome movie! The only way a person wouldn't like it, is their mind just isn't open enough to comprehend the subliminal msgs... And hasn't ever really tripped before :) LOVE Uncle Sam coming out of the poster....and so simple of an effect. its just an awesome, trippy, mind expanding, reading between the lines, kind of a movie!!! Take it however u like:) just give it a chance....LOVE IT!!!

  • what does "shes so heavy" mean in this song??

  • @TiFFlikesFOOD: I think the song is talking about the "weight" of responsibility or duty to your country, as represented by the new recruits carrying the statue of liberty. :3

  • @TiFFlikesFOOD Dude, the Beatles were on drugs when they wrote this.

  • @content3300 haha yeah i know bu was still wondering if there was a meaning.

  • @TiFFlikesFOOD carrying the weight of America on ur back. soldiering is tough.

  • @TiFFlikesFOOD

Do you not see them carrying the statue of liberty?

  • @Twitchy513 yeah i did but i thought maybe it had another meaning cause this isnt the beatles video for it.

  • thats how they did it in the 60's alright

  • wooooooooooow...............! es increible

  • Not a video to watch when you're high.

  • @hestheman929 What? of course it is!!!

  • @GThrasher128 and lysmeanslily I'm a really big fan of the beatles myself. I remember sneaking the Sgt Peppers Vinyle album up to my room and play it on a crapy pickup. I know the intention of the songs are not meant in a way this movie displays it, but the movie as a whole really takes all the themes of the 60's early 70's which also were in Lennons and mcCartney's mind at that time. It's in no way disrespectful, I LOVE this movie. I cried, laughed and felt the entire thing. And that's good!

  • i'm not a fan of this movie ( i'm a hardcore beatles fan and it bothered me that some of my friends only liked these songs because those two guys are hot) but there are two songs in this movie that are brilliant in their re-interpretation, this one and strawberry fields forever.

they are aesthetically pleasing and quite clever

  • the choreo on this is amazing <3

    i love this movie :)

  • what movie is this from..?

  • Across The Universe...That would be why it's in the title.

  • Learn French or Die! lol

  • LOL "I'm a cross-dressing homosexual pacifist with a spot on my lungs." ..... "as long as you don't have flat feet" *STAMP*

  • if this happened to me I'd be like HOLS SHIT FUCK!! I'm getting the hell outa here! SCREW THE ARMY! I ALREADY KNOW ENOUGH FRENCH TO SURVIVE IN MONTREAL. (which is a wonderful city by the way, I don't get why max wouldn't want to go there...)

  • this is where it gets trippy

  • so learn french learn french or die!

  • lærðu íslensku núna í dag eða ég lem þig

  • "I'm a cross-dressing homosexual pacifist with a spot on my lung?"

"As long as you don't have flat feet."

LOVE this song, LOVE this movie, LOVE the Beatles!

  • those soldiers look fucked up gnome sayin

  • good choreography

  • fuck you all...war sucks

  • Yea it does...But in today's world...It's inevitable

  • Id totally join the army if the recruiters danced like that all the time.

  • i always wanted to go thru bootcamp and the HOORAH thing is so cool

  • great song, great movie.

everytime i hear this song i'm reminded of someone :)

  • Learn French or die!!!!!

    Bitch

  • the soldiers at 50 seconds in are awesome

    kinda scary though

  • This movie was EXTREMELY WEIRD! But SOO fascinating. I just adore it. :] Its very psychedelic, and thats one of the MAIN reasons I love it. ^-^

  • @MrsHollyScissorhands it is really weird i think it wuld be awsome to watchh tho if u were high just sayin lol

  • Lol! Oh my goodness, I bet! xD

  • just to make this clear, prudence isn't a lesbian is she? i've seen this movie several times and never thought so, but i just git that vibe from the ending of this vid.

  • lol qazwa8, Prudence is a lesbian! that or bi. she likes that girl from the beginning, the cheerleader, the song playing is "I want to hold your hand". and yeah, later she likes Sadie, and finally she likes Rita! :]

  • She is Bi. :]

  • Prudence is a lesbian.

  • prudence is a lesbian. the movie makes it very obvious.

  • indeed

  • yes she is

  • @qazwa8

    no cause she likes matt

  • okay first of his name is Max, you know as in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" ? And she doesn't like him, Max just thinks so, and Prudence never tells him it's Sadie she likes. But everyone else knew...

  • @qazwa8 ... yes she is lol

  • By Far my fave part of the whole movie. this movie was beautiful!

  • eh oui, LEARN FRENCH OR DIE!!! LOL

  • Basically, this entire movie is genius.

  • really like the description

  • "jail or canada..they both SUCK" hahah wow ive never been to canada but im sure its better thab jail...btw this is amazing.

  • lol trust me, its not all endless frozen tundra, we have summers in which we want to run around with no clothes on, and we dont live in igloos or ride polar bears or moose xD

  • Dude, if you could ride a moose in Canada, I'd so go there right now.

  • It's actually quite fun, after I'm done, I shoot em

  • canada is amazing lol.

  • He looks a lot like Kurt Cobain lol

  • lol i thought i was the only one who thought so

  • i love her voice when she says "Learn french or die"

  • LEARN FRENCH OR DIE!

  • This is my favorite part of the movie, they did a great job. And I love the part where they carry the statue of liberty, that with the music is amazing.

  • carrying the statue is bloody genius.

  • who had this amazing idea to use this in this scene??? Especially when "uncle sam" comes out of the poster and wants to grap him....

    just bloody genius!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is genius.

  • The best part, in my opinion is:

"any reason you shouldn't be in this man's army son?"

"I'm a cross-dressing homosexual pacifist with a spot on my lung?"

"so long as you don't have flat feet." :D

  • haha note to self;

if ever called to Uncle Sam, tell them you have flat feet xD

  • @xTheDreamingx I think that was the best part of the song too lol!

  • @xTheDreamingx Lmfaoooooo ahh I love himmm <3

  • @xTheDreamingx My favorite is "Jail or Canada, and they both suck."

  • @xTheDreamingx For sure I totally agree! Love the humor.

  • Poor dude. His expression makes me sad.

  • i agree my favourite part is 0:51 or 1:32 !!!!!LOL

  • Gosh, "I Want You" here totally stops being sexual in this movie, and goes back to being sexual near the end of this song.

  • The only thing I love more then the army guys dance at 0:51 is there manly army chins!! LOL!

  • I fucking love the Beatles. Ther songs are so deep and every song had a meaning and a story behind it. And you know, Paul McCartney only took LSD 4 times and he was still more phylosophical than any of you haters. N one can amount to them, so stop being jealous fucks. And on the subject of war, I would rather be shot than be at war with another country, it makes people go towards racism and violence. If you want violence, kill your own damn kind, we're all human. That's all that fucking matters.

  • Amen.

  • LOL!!! "So learn French. Learn French or DIE."

  • We do have some cold winters....but -30c isn't frozen tundra x_X

    It's just winter...

  • this song goes soo well with the video .

  • the movie is my 2nd favorite, my actual favorite is indiana jones

  • So Funny !

  • This movie is simply fabulous.

  • does the flat feet thing still count

  • yep!

  • actually not that I heard. A friend of mine wanted to join, but he had flat feet. Then when he asked the recruitment centre they just said they have the proper support in shoes for flat feet now... hahah

  • I'm not a dancing but the choreography in this bit impresses me every time I watch it. Kudos to Daniel Ezralow :)

  • I like both of those countries. And this arrangement is AMAZING

  • Why is it pru sad? Can somebody please respond that to me :S

  • she's sad becasue she always falls in love with people who dont love her back. she was in love with a fellow cheerleader and then with saddie...

  • I love the start of this song

  • Buddy shut the fuck up you probably have never even been to Canada you fucking idiot. Its funny how Canadians don't judge Americans but anytime someone talks about Canada you take an hour out of your day to write down every stereotypical thing you know about us. And also why we dont go to war every 5 years.

  • Its just a movie with a script. Dont take it so personal sweet heart

  • chill dude

  • daaaaamn, i want you sooo baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

  • We ain't ignant foo, just cuz we ain't got no permafrost.

  • I wish Prudence had had more time to sing out this song. I loved her voice in this song. Much better than in "I wanna hold your hand".

  • ._.

    I agree.

    I love Prudence.

  • Best part of the movie!!!

  • MONTREAL'S COOL!!!!!!!! Oh yes man!!!! My hometown aint no frozen tundra mwahahahahahahhahhaa

  • Dude, for years later, he'll always regret his stupid decision of picking the army over Canada. This coming from a Canadian is a bit biased, but still, calling us a land of frozen tundra is ignorant.

  • Just part of the song. Also remember this is a time where blacks were getting shot in the streets, so I personally i would rather be called a tundra then getting shot. Not all Americans are like hodgepodge and headshot both of you are assholes. One of the reason the rest of the world hates Americans so much.

  • Best Movie Of All Time Screw Stars For Giveing It 2 Out Of 5 Deffinatly A 5 Out Of 5

  • Omg I Need Someones Help I Like Jude

((Hes Sweet And Cute)) But I Like Max ((Hes A Cute Basterd In My Opinion))

Who Should I Like More? Max Or Jude?

  • I feel the same way! I have decided to like them equally though. They are both better than the other in their own way. One thing is for sure, though- they are both incredibly hot!

  • I think you should like those army guys more. They are so damn coordinated, it's hard to get past it

  • you can have jude, max is mine

  • all i can say is poor prudence<3

  • Damn, Max is hot!

I really like the meaning behind this song, too. it shows how scary war and hate can be.

  • It diguises itslef to be glory. Onl ythe brave and foolish will stand up to fight for a their country, but sometimes it's for a good cause like protecting your family.

  • And when they say "Shes so heavy" and show the men with the statue on their backs I took it as representing the mens burden of having to carry America.

  • Well, and also the statue of liberty is heavy, and it is technically a she, but yeah. I wish we wouldn't result to war so many times, but sometimes, we need to fight for freedom.

  • omg, the soilders dancing is so creepy

  • "You Know Whats Pisses Me Off?"

I Swallowd All Those Cotton Balls For Nothing!"

  • can you believe those army men are real and it's just make-up that they put on them?

  • realli.

    woah. thats weird

  • This was amazingly done. One of my favourite parts is Prudence's mournful singing at the end of the vid.

  • I still love how the choreographed soldiers near the beginning look like carbon-copy army men.

  • Awesome symbolism ^^

  • I love all the symbolisms in this movie! And the way they matched the Uncle Sam "I want you" with the lyrics, plus the scene where the soldiers carry the statue of Liberty in their underwear,in Vietnam singing "she's so heavy" is soooo amazing!

  • TOTALY AGREE WITH THAT

  • whoa wha whoa.... 2:40 isn't that Commander Lock from the matrix movies?

  • I think your right.

  • he also plays in the show doll house as echos handler

  • my favorite part of the movie

  • Great song. The army people sorta resemble Castro in his early years in a way. very powerful song

  • This song is probably one of my favorite through out the entire movie.

My History classroom at school has one of those Uncle Sam posters on the wall and everytime I look at it i always get this song stuck in my head XD

  • this movie is weird and so i love it!

  • Does anybody know if this movie is in anyway connected to the movie "Mirror Mask"?

  • No, it's not from that movie. This movie is called ''Across the Universe'' if you didn't read the desciption. But I see what you mean. Similar styles...

  • Yea i know :) i ment like the same production team... arts and crafts or make-up....

  • lol is prudence just like a random asian lesbian?

  • in a way

  • Apparently they added her in to use the song "dear prudence"

  • this is my favorite musical number in this movie. its such a clever use of the song, i love it!

  • Thia scence is just soooo clever i cant even believe they came up with the idea of the soldiers carrying the Statue of Liberty as in saying freedom is too heavy. I absolutely ADORE this movie with a passion!!!!!!!!!!! Long live the Beatles!!!!

  • 2:44 lol max is funny

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite song... except for "let it be" but the coriography is so amazing.. the costumes... OMG... it is so damn amazing!!!!

  • Had micro-flashback actually. Seriously looks like MEPS felt. I was inspected, detected, and no part neglected. Damn...

Yup...it's really kinda like this. Even down to being this well choreographed.

  • This scene blew my mind when I watched this movie for the first time. It's by far my favorite of the entire film. Absolutely BRILLIANT!

  • The design and choreography of this scene is breathtaking to watch. I still don't know how they pulled it off and I've watched this scene about 20 times in the last two days.

Plus I love the song. Well, the Beatles in general :)

P.S. - I'm from Canada and I think we got it pretty good up here. Max doesn't know what he's missing LOL.

  • lol.

And they speak English in Montreal too :D

  • i <3 this one too babes!!!!!

  • This whole sequence is brilliant.

  • UNCLE SAM!! HES ALIVE!!! But hes not my Uncle =D! Uncle Castro!!

  • learn french, die...learn french, die... tough choice :)

  • really awesome song. lol uncle sam lol

  • So they were pro war? Because this scene is very much anti-military. And you couldn't possibly be using the term "antithesis" because the song is unrelated to the scene. Because that's improper use of the term antithesis, since unrelated doesn't mean opposite.

  • Bloody 'ell thats from a while ago! Nah was referring to the entire film. Gutsy british rock n roll used in a camp musical. May as well go piss on Lennon's grave. Peace out brother. x

  • omg i love this movie!!! this is one of favourite scenes!!..this n when lucy songs "if i fell"

  • I loooved this clip. The message "Army of One" really stands out. Amazing movie. :)

  • fucking love the little boot camp dance

  • unbelievable .. reminds me of a toy shop

  • We had the pleasure of meeting one of the makeup artists for this film. he did the makeup for the soldiers. :3 Not ALL of them, but he worked on it :D

  • Really! Thats soooo amazing!

  • Best choreography I've ever seen!
