The question here had nothing to do with America's close relationship with Israel. It was a straightforward question about Chavez's warm ties to Ahmadinejad. I see no reason to consider it as an emotionally charged or partisan question.
Since the protester asked the question with civility, Chavez should have either provided an explanation or ignored the protester completely. But, irrationally, he clearly wanted to transform this conversation into an opportunity to patronize a perceived foe.
