I saw Andy Kershaw interview this band on Whistle Test in 1985 and they then sang this song live. I was knocked out and was sure they had a massive future. It was a very minor hit and I never heard of them again. I suppose it just shows that you can be too good for the mass market. Far better to offer mediocrity like Take That and the Spice Girls and mop up the pre-pubescent and menopausal markets.
@knownpleasures Sorry, couldn't agree with you less. This is a fabulous song and how this band never became mega is one of the great mysteries of the last half century.
Anyone remember when music was as good as this? Seriously, there was a time when this liquid gold was being pumped out daily. Guess the well ran dry...
this song actually was the biggest hit out here... how can someone not like it.. it's played even @ the goth nights..beautiful, eternal best song ever
HOUSE OF STONE (Roaring Boys) I was waiting for so long Took my chances but they'd all already gone But there's nothing I can do nothing I can find to move me like you do Now that song comes again and I still remember saying Young boy afraid to ask for love To take a chance No light, no love will ever grow Inside my house of stone welcome in sweet sorrow Where you've been I'll never know Let the music fill this room can't you see they're only melodies of you
Now that song comes again and I still remember saying Young boy afraid to ask for love your chances will pass no light, no love will ever grow inside your house of stone Now that song comes again and i know I will still remember saying Young boy who could not ask for love, Your chance has passed No light, no love will ever grow I will build a house of stone Young boy who could not ask for love Your chance has passed No light, no love will ever grow I will build a house of stone
tks God Tube exists!i remeber so well this song, in Italy was not so famous, but i loved it,and i could't find it anywhere!finally here it is!i would listen to it for hrs....pure joy!stefania
I've always liked it, a real 80's classic this one. As a matter of interest what happened to the band after this and did any have successful music careers?
are you kidding.i love this song. iv got it on video tape from the whistle test. i cant fiend the cd thou. it`s only took me 20 years to get the single.
Hi Tim, Was bored and was searching 'You Tube' for old tracks and remembered you used to be in this group. Dont know if you remeber me but used to live around the corner from you in Petts Wood - a life time ago. David Abbott
Tried the search not expecting a result! Fantastic! Thanks. I saw them on OGWT and bought the single. Still have it with a crack in but still plays. Never seen the video before. One of my top 10 80's tunes.
This group, much like England's Frazier Chorus, mysteriously fell through the cracks of time. This evocative, pop perfect tune deserved a greater place in music history's spotlight!
I remember the Roaring Boys were going to be the next big thing. Their record company spent a fortune promoting them but for some reason they never resonated with the public.
oh my god, I met this band back when I was a teenager and went backstage at the Marquee - got photos of me with Tim and Paul somewhere!!

It's a decent enough track but nowhere near as good as 'Every Second of the Day' which should of been chosen as the first single.

A great song from a band destined to be big but never made it.
coracleman 4 years ago
This was actually released in 1985, and reviewed in Smash Hits June 19 - July 2 (they mistakenly called it "heart of stone").
I don't think it made the Top 40, but it's a pleasant tune, infinitely more preferable than Stock, Aitken and Waterman for example.
