@IIkingdomII Actually, it was beneficial for gladiator owners and the host of the fights to not have the gladiators killed. If a gladiator was killed, the host would generally have to repay the owner for his fighter lost.
Training gladiators was very costly back then, not to mention a lengthy process.

About the most positive thing you could say about something like this is that at least these animals aren't jumping innocent people on the streets. @VoidOnTuesday You can only walk away from things forced on you. They are doing this voluntarily. And who are you to choose what happens in "civilized" culture? Rome was the center "civilized" culture thousands of years ago and they had actual fights to the death. This is much more civlized, it's just sports with less rules. Bloodshed isn't the point, just something that happens, like concussions and broken limbs in regular sports.

Allowing people to play a sport to all their ability and limited by only their physical ability and a few rules does not drag us back any, but lets people know what they are capable off. Because if it does, why not get rid of all sports that lead to grievous and possibly life-threatening injury. Plus I bet a lot of these guys leave the pitch happy with themselves and each other. I for one support anyone who does anything so long as they are SANE and KNOW THE RISKS. I won't stop anyone bungee jumping simply because of the risks involved, nor parachuting and I am sure that you wouldn't either. Why not engage in a sport that tests one's physical abilities to it very limits?

Their parents should not have brought them to a rule-less sport, although it may be educational in the sense of 'be careful on how you act around other people or you might get your ass wupped'. However, this is NOT 'conflict resolution'. This is a SPORT, where two teams are competing to accomplish a common goal (heh). This should not be taken as a brawl or a fight, but instead a SPORT that is a mashup of MMA, soccer, rugby football
