Man, I'd say software is pretty expensive. I can't hate, I use Cubase, Pro Tools and Reason quite a bit.. but there is no emulating a TR-808/909 or Machinedrum. It's just not possible. The Analog sound is .. well, there aren't words to describe it. I've seen some AMAZING live acts on Abelton, that blew my mind. Basically, if you can make something unique and original with a rubber band and a toothpick.. what does it matter. Software, or Gear. I didn't mean to sound snobbish.
@rtofvnt I'm just getting into hardware, it's so much more satisfying than software. plus with hardware you can sell your machines to buy other machines. oh this comment is from 2 years ago lmao..... So what hardware are u using nowdays ?
@1787dude Hi - I tried to save up towards MC-909/808 or machinedrum or even akai mpc1000 but so far I've got only one rompler - Korg MicroX and virtual analog Korg R3 to produce some music for sale. Keep up good work there :-)
thats awesome. I actually had to look up the korg micro x and now I want one lol. I'm actually selling circuit bent stuff to afford my equipment, kind of ironic lol. I think I'm going to get an esx, a full sized midi controller keyboard and abunch of oldschool rackmount synths. then I'll try to get rich making (Insert overrated techno fad of 2012 here.) but really I could just spend entire days jamming out and having fun
@rtofvnt thanks for warning me, the rs7000 is like a katrillion dollars but it doesn't cost much more than an esx, I guess I might as well just pony up the dough, I got a korg ms2000r afew days ago to back up my emx and now I'm using the emx to back up the ms2000

been thinking of buying one of these for a while, wouldnt mind having it synced with emx and esx :)
Never realised the MD has a bassline composer too.
owlwink 3 years ago
It doesn't, but you can create basslines with it. All you need is some imagnation and the knowledge that 1 semitone = 3 pitch steps on the MD. :)

cool,sounds very interesting ;)

Any Elektron machinedrum put Rolands and Korgs back to them boxes.
Handmade from Europe no CHINA and outstanding quality sound.

Did you use a TR-909 hi-hat sample on here? Just curious.
asegal007 3 years ago
you did all those sounds with just that little machine?
imagine what could do it working with ableton and reason!
i like it because it seems to be more easy to use than a korg or roland, etc.

Gear > Software
rukusrazor 3 years ago
of course it is, but im not a rich guy to purchase all the hardware.
anyways.. nowadays software is so powerful that opens up lots of new posibilities

Machinedrum is pure digital.

mhm ... I'd rather go for hardware, but it DOES cost.
If you looking for proper TR-909 emulation try find drumazon from polish company D16. It is very good - the closest I've ever heard.
If you like to mess around analogue drum sounds try Microtonic.

@1787dude Hi ... don't go ESX - Korg is a great company, but they did drop a ball about that one. I would rather go for RS7000 with updates system.
