  • Funny, I'm surprised you got something other than an Acura Integra. lol

  • Hi Eric thanks for this video. I did a google search because I have a Saab 9-5 that had the same issue on driver-side door. I followed instructions in your video and I changed it out in about an hour. Mainly because I am an idiot. :) If anybody else is looking for parts Eeuroparts has the window rollers for sale for $2.67 part #4493433A. Follow exactly instructions in the video and it's an easy job. Thanks!

  • @jxc1139 I'm glad the video was able to help you, thanks for the comment.

  • Hey E, Looks as though you could have replaced those green parts without taking the glass out of the car. Seems there was plenty of room to slide them out and slide the new ones in. Right?

  • @midlantic1 Not really no.

  • Good Job Sir! :)

  • Love the videos Eric, they have helped me tremendously fixing more than one friends car.

Oh, by the way I think the phrase is "In like *FLYNN*" ...check out wikipedia In_like_Flynn to get the back story. Just trying to give back in a small way! ;-)

  • @smueller99 You're right I misspoke, thanks for pointing that out and for your comment.

  • Thank you SO much for that video. I had the same problem on the drivers side. It's a GM van, but the fix was almost exactly the same. Awesome job! :D

  • @dcheverie That's nice to know, thanks for the comment.

  • I wish i could work with you man

  • @EricTheCarGuy Pick tools make those stubborn screw covers a hell of a lot easier to pop out, although the pocket screwdriver is still an awesome tool. By the way, did you see the Snap-On pocket screwdrivers with the magnets at the other end? Scored a couple of those with the rep's last visit. :D

  • @hellraiser319 I often call my pocket screwdriver my '11th finger' and pick them up whenever I can. I have one of the type you're talking about and I love it. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey, love the videos and I have a question. Do you know how to fix a power window that's really slow? It rolls up, but it's really sluggish so I tried revving the engine while rolling to see if it was the battery but it didn't help. Any tips?

  • @qbeck11 Try the silicone paste in the window tracks as I show in the video, in addition make sure the run channels aren't rolling up or binding up the window.

  • Now i know how to fix my Toyota soarer's power window problem thank you Eric yay.

  • @bcompany6 It may not be the same on you Toyota, in fact I'm pretty sure you're going to have to replace the regulator on that one. Good luck.

  • @STFUDouchebags Thank you for that, I'm trying to change the image of the auto technician, there are a lot of good ones out there too.

  • He is a hell of a good guy to work on cars and for the benefit of the general people. THANKS A MILLION ERIC.

  • @ANDREASRIAL You're most welcome, thanks very much for your comment.

  • Eric, how much did you charge the customer for this job? I want to go to a mechanic shop and see how much they would charge. Thanks

  • @Flysohighx21 I actually traded this for other work, this person is a friend of mine.

  • Nicely done Eric! What did you use to lube the window track?

  • @natanddiane01 Silicone paste.

  • When it comes to plastic trim held in with clips, I've always said that if you did it right it sounds like you've broken everything.

  • @pfleeger2010 So true!

  • The ignition key is in the console in Saabs because their crash testing came up with the possibility of your right knee crashing into the key if the ignition was in the steering column as in most cars. In a really bad crash the key ends up pretty much going into the knee so they put the key where it really could do no harm. They also go way above & beyond the min. rollover standards. The old 900s could support 2 times the weight of the car upside down w/o roof collapse.

    pretty cool

  • @texan176 I did not know that. I do know however that they do make a solid car and I'd rather be in one of those if I were ever in a collision, in fact the Europeans make a very good car when it comes to safety in my experience. Thanks for the comment.

  • Tire shine works just as well as the silicone but I would think silicone last longer. Anther job well done.

  • @legendfang I never thought of that, thanks for the tip.

  • Eric, I suggest a microphone. Your voice is very echoy.

  • @bhstone1 It echos even when I use my lav so I quit using it, I have a plan for the future however.

  • Saab is owned by GM, right? That would explain the rivets. I have had to replace EVERY actuator and window motor on my wife's 99 GMC Yukon and we've babied that car (not even 110,000 miles on it). Servicing anything in this GMC is a complete pain in the ass. GM should take a page out of the Saab book and build their doors in a way that can be serviced since they insist on using sub-standard actuators and motors in their products. I wonder if the newer GM trucks are as tough to service?

  • @golefevre Rivets are a cheep fastener if a car company is looking to save a little in production they use them as it's a lot more expensive to manufacture a threaded fastener as well as the time it takes to install it.

  • Old saab redtop turbo engines are very reliable and good for high power. Same with Volvo T4 1.9 litre turbo engines. 3 bar boost on ethanol, 750hp, 9500rpm limiter and non stroked.

  • @DStylesHanska Yea they are good cars, good suspension and transmissions too.

  • Power windows... Great to have, pain in the butt to fix them.

  • @TickyTack23 They can be expensive to fix too but thankfully these weren't.

    love yah man

and?!,....can`t seem to get clean here,......sigh......sigh ones more

    still.....DIRTY

  • @marsL001 I love your comments, seriously.

  • cup holder looks fragile. seen them civic hand cuff cup holder break but mine still works . I think it all depends on the driver.

  • @hobieslug45 That is true, in fact I have an ETCG1 video on that.

  • You make it look easy.

    Life is good!

  • @srissy007 This actually was easy. Thanks for the comment.

  • I've always hated rivets. The gas cap door on my Cavalier ended up dented somehow and I was going to take it off and bang out the dent, but it's riveted on and drilling out the rivets & re-riveting in takes someone who is much less lazy than I am, haha.

  • @eliw4232 Yea I hate rivets too, a real pain in the drill.

  • This is why I HATE bringing my car to a mechanic. Broken clips, missing screws, missing clips, etc. Stuff isn't always put back together as well as it is taken apart. I would rather learn to do most jobs myself.

  • @NETWizzJbirk That's why I'm here to show you how to do it yourself. Thanks for the comment.

  • @EricTheCarGuy Too bad you aren't in my town. A good, honest/hard-working mechanic can't be beat! I would hire you and not only pay but offer to hold the camera & learn!

  • such great instruction from such a handsome man! love it! Another saab story

  • @readymade7777 Awe you make me blush and laugh all in one comment, well done.

  • "Made from Jets" -- Took me a second to remember that. Great video Eric. Very compelling info you put in these. I also like your professionalism.

  • @youtubasoarus Thank you very much for that comment.

  • Saabs are so cheaply made -.-

  • @Gell1welt69

Not compared to 90% of the american saloons of same age :-)

  • @Gell1welt69 I hate to break it to you but there are a few Cadillacs out there that are actually Saabs under the skin.

  • Scotty would make a 5 min. max video! Pull this off (uhhhh) Slide this out (uhhhh) and put the new stuff in. (uhhh) And put it all together again! So the next time do it youself!! :)

  • @YouBocaj67Tube Are you saying I should have made it shorter? :)

  • @YouBocaj67Tube Yeah, Scotty is fun to watch. But I wuldn't take on a new project based soley on his highlighted video's. Eric's are detail oriented, it's those small details that make the repair work.

  • Solid repair Eric!

  • Born from jets...

Little SAAB Gripen dont need airports for maintenance

  • I love what you do, buddy.

  • @quebrik Thank you!

  • Great job Eric!! I fully service my own 9-3 sedan and Saab's can be quirky and cool all at the same time. They can also be tricky to work on as some areaa are over engineered. None the less great video. Oh and if you thought the 9-5 had awesome cup holders, take a look at the ones in the 9-3 sedans from 2003 and up. Mind-blowing.

  • @AtlanticFlyer Yea they can be a pain to work on sometimes but they are good cars, well made. Thanks for the comment.

  • My brother has a 9-5...I agree: coolest cupholders ever :)

  • 20 bucks!!! for 2 clips?!

  • @fonzi1938 - thats what i said.

  • @fonzi1938 Yea that's pretty cool.

  • Very good information that will save the do it yourselfer a lot of money. A technician would probably charge $150.00 easily!

  • @MoneyMarcMes And they would be right to get it in my opinion, we have to feed our kids too. :)

  • Awesome video. Very well explained.

  • part of the reason the green retainers use to break on these was the locking R clip, they were too heavy, use the old ones if your doing this, they are less ''springy'' on these cheap plastic substitutes that are used in cars today :)

  • @foxdmulder Good tip, thanks for the info.

  • your right, EPIC CUPHOLDERS! :D

  • I hope that was not regular glass cleaner. ammonia just strips the tint right off.

  • @thepopeis1 Good thing there wasn't any window tint on the windows then.

  • that cup holder just blew my mind!!!!!!

  • @thepopeis1 Yea that is pretty cool

  • Have any fix videos on a mustang?

  • @Gatorsrok Not yet but if one shows up I will.

  • Hey Eric. Volvo's 850 / V70 from 1993 up to 2000 use the same type of clips. So if the Saab dealership doen't have any in stock, Volvo might have them.

I did the same job on my 1993 Volvo 850, and what I can say, thoes clips are hard to get on.

  • @siemenstraffic Thanks for that info I'll keep that in mind if I ever run into that.

  • Nice video Eric ...stay dirty

  • I love the full body shots of you working.

  • u mean car born from GM plant :D

  • Great video Eric.Glad to see repair video.

  • Your dry humor is the best

  • @you900001 To do this for a living you really need a sense of humor, if not you'll go crazy.

  • Hey Eric. Cool movie. a friend of mine own a 99, 9-5 turbo. Really nice car.

  • @datakilden Yea they can be a lot of fun to drive.

  • Need to do this to my 2003 Durango. Thanks for the video, Eric!

  • @HackTheTouch Good luck and thanks for the comment.

  • You are an excellent mechanic and a good man Eric. Thanks a mil :-) I miss my Saab now...

  • @artfuldodger2809 Thank you, I'm sure you could get another Saab, there are plenty of them out there.

  • Holy crap, it's NOT a Honda! Can you handle it, Eric? lol Wait, how did you diagnose that? We didn't really learn windows other than the diagrams in school. Shouldn't you disconnect the B- cable when working with electrical circuitry? We don't need EricTheFriedGuy. OK Monday is officially over now. On to Tuesday and the Allison Tranny rebuild in class. Stay Dirty, Eric

  • @JTheGuitarPlayer To diagnose this you pretty much have to take the inner door panel off and get a look, most times the cause of problems like this are easy to find.

  • I was wondering do you give a copy of your repair videos to the owners of the car that you make Tue video of? I know if I were to have my car repaired and the mechanic gave me a video that showed me the amount of care and professionalism that went into fixing my car. I would continue to go to that mechanic. You're doing a great job man keep it up I watch all your vids. I just like having the general knowledge.

  • @rradioactiv Sometimes they watch, most of them are friends or family so they know me as Eric not EricTheCarGuy if you get my meaning.

  • Enjoyed the video.

I had the same problem with my Peugeot 306. The dealer wanted to sell me a new regulator. So I fixed the clip with a screw and plastic steel. I think the better the parts supply the better the car!

  • @andrewthompsonuk1 Yea better parts do make for a better repair.

  • GREAT AS USUAL - LIKE THE CUP HOLDER :)

  • @whitebear26 I like those too.

  • Where's the slut? Oh, Slot? Never mind.

  • Clear to point as usual! I Have learned a lot from your tutorials ,thanks

  • @Carlostype I'm glad to hear that, thanks for the comment.

  • Haha "Hey look!, Hi!" In the reflection lol

  • Hey Eric, maybe you should of gotten a sticker for the SAAB.

"When I grow up, I want to be a Kenworth"

Speaking of which, when are you going to show the beast ?

  • @Rafterman555 A full video on that will be on Monday.

  • nice video Eric. don't even own a Saab and I watched it.

  • @gordonmedley Same here!

  • @gordonmedley Thank you for that.

  • Hey Eric, shouldn't there be a dash in between the 9 and 5? It looks like "Saab 95".

  • @ForTheWinaIIDay Really, the 9-5 is 9 superscript 5. since 9^5 looks weird, then 95 and 9-5 are understandable. That's what I've observed, so I've seen Saab 95 and Saab 9-5, and of course, a 95 Saab 95 lol!!

  • @ForTheWinaIIDay Yea, I fixed that, it does look better.

  • I also found out that you don't have to remove the metal clip to get the window out. You can push the closed end of the clip toward the plastic mount, that will cause the open end of the clip to ride up onto the mount further and spread out the clip, then the pin will come out of the clip.

  • Great video. Just wondering if you really had to take off the metal clip on those green rollers. I just did a window regulator on an 03 town and country, and it used the same metal clips (the plastic parts were different). I found that you can put the metal clip on first, then push the pin on the regulator into the clip and it will clip in. Must easier than trying to put that metal clip on with the window in place.

  • @talleddie81 I would agree with you in most cases but did you see how hard it was for him to pop it in with out the retaining clips

  • @talleddie81 A couple of people mentioned that very thing, I'll try that next time I run into this. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey Eric

Do you ever use those Door Trim Panel removers they sell at parts stores? I am always afraid that those plastic pins will break when pulling the door panel off.

    Great vid

    Thanks

  • @tonydinatrucking I have a fairly decent set. Not the strongest things, but it's a lot better than what I used to use... which was just a screwdriver. Sometimes they work and help the pin, sometimes? Those plastic pins are just sh*t and well, they're going to break anyways.

Seems it's that way EVERY TIME you take off an older plastic piece. It's just junk that's not meant to be fixed.. it's just mean to be moved a few times and that's it, anymore than that and it'll break.

  • @tonydinatrucking Not often, I mostly use them on interior trim, I mostly worked on Honda's so they all pretty much come apart like this one did.

  • Excellent as usual. May I suggest doing a door handle/lock cleaning and replacing next time you have to take a door panel off? (Kids keep sticking sticks in the door locks at my wife's school).

  • @salpta I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the suggestion.

  • Great vid man! My Volvo V70(1999) got engine, abs, srs, ets + service lights on for couple years now, always passed inspection(UK) too!! LOVE that car! All the best from Glasgow, Scotland! Marty!! :)

  • @martian953 Hello Marty from Scotland! Thanks for watching and for your comment.

  • Sure it was, eric.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but now i want a saab....just for the cup holders

  • @Airsoftmikey1 It really does 'complete' the car.

  • Coming soon: Eric the Jet Guy

  • @zenuke Funny.

  • My Sc300's had those cup holders

  • awesome job as always!!!!

  • hahaha, that is a sweet cup holder!

  • LoL Saab fail.

How often to you get saab's eric?

  • @IIGrayfoxII Lol you fail?

  • @gonace

    Nope.avi

My cars electronics never have had issues nor will they since i drive honda.

  • @IIGrayfoxII Haha well there was no electronic flaws on the Saab, and Honda is crap compared to most other car manufacturer. Sorry but you can't be real.

  • @gonace

Saab are better than honda please don't make me laugh.

let me put it this way.

On my way to work i see hundreds of hondas, yet i see virtually 0 saabs.

But this is not the place to fight about cars.

  • @IIGrayfoxII So something that you can't see isn't better then something that you can see? What the hell, Honda is bigger and more sold but that don't make Saab worse, Saab are better built and can run longer without any service.

Hondas break more often and need more care and service.

  • @IIGrayfoxII Not often but I suspect I'll be seeing this one more.

  • nice
