  • I would pay a kid a couple bucks, you dont have to take a tour but its worth them keeping the other people from bombarding you they will tell them off and follow you around all day and keep people from bothering you. Offer a tip and buy the kid lunch or something if they do a good job :)

  • We did give the man a tip and he was very overwhelmed about it. The bucksheesh is major thing in Morocco, Egypt and places like that. The little you give makes a big difference to them.

  • This is why I hate taking a guided tour, especially in a 3rd world country. I'm sure you would have rather been out seeing the city in your limited time.

I'm sure the carpets are beautiful but if that was me I would have just been rude and walked out. Thank you I don't want a carpet.

"You must see my beautiful carpets!"

    Yeah, yeah, dude.

  • I know! But as soon as we walked off the ferry, we were confronted by umpteen people claiming to be tour guides and all saying that they were cheaper than the other!

We didn't want to take a tour at all, but to keep the guy happy, we did as he said.

It was very tiring and wasted a hell of a lot of precious time, but hey! All in the experience!

And yes, we did buy a wretched carpet to shut him up!!!!!

  • Hey the reason why I searched your vid, I'm going to be in Southern Spain in March and want to see Tangier. So should I get on a tour leaving from the Spanish side? It sounds like it's crazy when you get off the boat and I can picture being rushed by 20 guys.

If you had to do it over again how would you do it?

How far is the town from the ferry? Is it an option to just jog past all the "guides" and just walk into town?

  • Moroccan Carpets are wonderful and you are lucky he gave you an hour of his time. Likely buying a rug was payment for the video you took of his store. Spending an hour with him you would think you could create a better educational inspiration of your experience then a rant

  • I would have worn that guy out with questions. How often are you going to talk to a guy who probably has Berber blood about carpets. That hour would have flown by for me. Of course I am not in my 20's anymore so appreciating stuff like that comes easier. "So which one do you like best" I want that big red one my man, so I can put it in my living room and then regale my friends with the story of how I learned about carpets in a shop in Tangier.
