that scene is actually two composited shots...him jumping down is one and me walking up is another. The height he jumps from is actually a digital clone we animated down. In real life, he only jumped about 2 feet.

Good video guys. But ther is't any resolution at the end. Are they equal or is one better than the other? My guess is that they are equal. But this is still a very good video. Props for using FC HD. I(we) use FC Pro 3 (I think) at my high school.
Type in Youtube, Ryan Vs Dorkman, and you will see 2 amature people, Seem like Movie Stars, It's Amazing, This is crapy compared to Ryan Vs Dorkman, But still, Good Work guys ;-)
I never used After Effects, it's all Photoshop ImageReady. What we did was we shot the scene with me walking up and him standing there, and then when I stopped walking, he jumped up normally and then landed. I then edited him out on every frame until the frame where he started descending from his jump. Then I cut out/pasted a couple different jump poses of him into the previous frames higher and higher and higher in the air to look like he was falling.
Pause the vid on 1:11 exactly. A Super Duper X412326i SpaceShuttle is coming in for landing... or wait... no... no, it's just a Ford. Very well done. Try and get a venue a little less public coz to be honest I think the silver person-carrier kills it.
haha yeah we didn't notice there was a car in that scene until we put it all together and were like "oh well, leave it in". we actually digitally edited out another car in the following scene (you can see a small flicker of it on the right side at 1:20). We did a lot of that kind of real-time deletion of objects. If you notice, there are no shadows of the sticks we used for the lightsabers on the ground or on our bodies (except the first scene).
2.33GHz Intel Core Duo2, 3GB RAM, 150GB HD, Radeon Mobility X1600, 15" screen version. Not really awesome stats, but they're the highest you can select when you make your MacBook Pro purchase (except the screen size).
In the 21st Century, a bunch of nerds found out how to make lightsabers in their own home movies, and everybody puts out their own amateur content on YouTube.
Also, there is Duel of the Fates? Have you heard of Duel of the Fates?
yeah we knew but his name is Joseph and mine is Ed so we thought "let's call it JEd Wars!" Stupid, I know...sounds like a hillbilly version of Star Wars
That was done on a Mac? Before I read the description it looked like it was done using Windows Movie Maker, Zwei-Stein and LS Maker/After Effects. Good video though! My only fret was that the opening cral wasn't actually true to the star wars style.
Well it's a MacBook Pro with BootCamped Windows XP, so I can switch between OS's at any given time. So it's true that the crawl was done in WMM, but the JED WARS logo's fly-back animation we use is nowhere to be found in WMM. I used Final Cut Express HD on OS X for that, and many other things. Photoshop CS was used for the starfield-to-earth pan. We just tried to make the programs cooperate seamlessly by using the same starfield throughout the project.
PS. It shows a complete list of the programs we used on this project, and which OS was used, at the end of the video if you care to know specifically.
If you can somehow gaina ccess to Adobe After Effects, the scroll becomes much better though more complicated. From what I hear, Blender (open source alternative to 3D Max) does a greate job at rendering the opening crawl and creating space ships for movies, may be worth while to invest time in learning it if you want to make some really great short films (loved this one).
PS. I read the description, as I said in my original post. But before it I thought that the effects might have been done completely in Windows. Then I saw Macbook Pro, and Final Cut Pro and was like, "nope, this was done on some good crap :-p" I got the crawl right though.
This was the shit

I searched Google for the effects, it's been a while so I don't remember. The world was just a picture I found, and added a starfield to it.
