@jubinus, I would conjecture the reason somebody took my shoes was because they could. I suppose I was a little flattered someone noticed my feet, but at the time it did not reduce my humiliation. I had to walk out of the library barefoot; and the snotty chick at the front counter yelled out, "You have to wear shoes in the library, Ma'am," although women go shoeless there all the time. "Ma'am"? I'm 34. Anyway, yes, my shoes probably smelled after having my pantyhose feet in them all day.
