  • I saw Emerson with the

  • I would put Lanier Greig up against him any day , you bet Emerson is great , Lanier hardly plays in person , cursed for Leaving ZZ Top after putting out Salt Lick and Millers Farm that he arranged and co wrote but was stuck under contract Acuff/Rose stuck doing studio work NYC for some heavy names . I have played with him and no matter where we went the billboard always said Founding Member of ZZ Top, a curse when people expect ZZ Top sound. Emerson found great band mates ,the recipe for success

  • keith was pushing 50 years old here. and could hold the audience in the palm of either hand.

saw them twice on this tour, met them after the show. all charming.

  • i feel kinda sorry for lake. i dont think he ever had one bass solo live with ELP.

  • when did they preform thta?

  • Put a shirt on for fuck's sake, Keith

  • you guys.........

  • this shit is hilarious

  • Awesome...Keith might be the best physical showman outside of Hendrix...And I say this with a firm record of staunch heterosexuality: few men can carry off that bare-chested/leather jacket look better...And he can't be too young in this video...

  • @wsterbrg I think this is '92 or '98. So, not too young at all.

  • sloppy playing by a drug besotted, bare chested has been. and to think I once thought he was a ROck & Roll GOD, no less. ha ha ha ha sorry but thumbs DOWN. and people PAY real money to see/hear this self indulgent crap.

  • He's so great!!! I make a keyboard covefr of that song, AND BREAK MY FINGERS!!!!

  • Every time I see him play that organ the more beaten up it looks. It take a kicking and still keeps ticking!

  • What daggers does he use?

    Are they Boker's?

  • Hammond ... and Keith Emerson!!! Super!!!!

  • Is it a Hammond?

  • I am half frightened and have amazed, so glad I finally discovered elp

  • @bassguitarpro88 I thought I could play piano, then I saw ELP live in a good theater, and it blew my mind away.

  • They're still like incredibly talented little kids to me. There's a playfulness and joy in ELP I don't feel elsewhere. Long live ELP!

  • @annikee59: I don't know about the little kids part, unless you're referring to some of the earlier footage of the Nice where Keith clambers all over that long suffering Hammond. However I know what you mean about the playfulness and joy. Most bands today seem fueled on hate, pills and alcohol.

  • around like 1 minute he has the exact same tones and does like the same runs as in ff7 boss battle are u kidding me thats intense

  • @HeartOfMetalx11 i think it's logical because the ff music composer is a ELP fan (and some other prog rock bands :p ) i suggest you to listen The Black Mages and also to compare Dancing Mad with Tarkus you will see it's surprising :p

  • @HeartOfMetalx11 i was just thinking that myself. uematsu undoubtedly loves him some ELP

  • ぶったまげた!!!キースさん、あなたはいったいどこまでやるんですか!!

    もうこれはロックなんかじゃない!!肉体の反逆だ!!

  • For those of you who may not know, this is Emerson, Lake & Palmer's take on a bona fide jazz classic, written and made famous by none other than Dave Brubeck - Blue Rondo a la Turk! Yep! Go ahead - look it up! Of course, Keith Emerson doesn't remain too faithful to the original -- haha! Sort of like Dave Brubeck meets The Who!

  • Just mad wish I was there ELP 4ever!!

  • Best key player ever?

We could argue until the Cows come home as to who is # one.

What can we all agree on. The best is different for all of us.

We CAN agree it's about if the music "Grabs" you.

Every time I hear ELP I think of Emerson's performance.

    Maybe not technically perfect, but

OH MY GOD WHAT A FEELING I GET IN MY SOUL reliving the Mad passion of the performance.

And on that note for me.

Emerson with the support of L&P is number one to Me.

Oh look the cows home. What for dinner dear?

  • i have only 2 words...

    FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!!!

  • Kieth Emerson is God on keys, piano, all related to hitting a string (note).

  • Greg Lake's thoughts: WTF!

  • I love the music, but can´t help feeling a bit embarresed from 4,09 to 5,10.

  • @larteonceagain AHEM... I'd like to see you play Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D min... BACKWARDS while a 300 pound organ is sitting on your chest.

  • @ablethevoice

First of all I can´t play any instrument.

But if I did, I wounded fuck the organ, with the organ on top

  • Good...

    ありがとう。。

  • I have to admit that I was totally waiting for a Spinal Tap moment to occur.

  • 'Look! No hands!'

  • I love it , That B3 will be fine . Believe he knows what he is doing , Just great , I've seen B3 take some serious beatings before , Lanier Grieg original ZZ Top founder was doing that in Neal Ford and the Fanatics and ZZ Top . I don't think Emerson has ever taken a break . Those old B3's ain't cheap anymore , Man he threw it all in , who could possibly not enjoy that , unless they think he killed it , he's a pro and the B3 will live . True Art ! Blew my mind .

  • @sadhouse ain't a B3, but an L100. They toured with a C3 and an L100 and he did all the crazy crap to the L100 :p

  • @bkisme , He was known for using L100 and C3 seems together if I remember 40 years ago well enough , I'm a Drummer , most all us started here in Houston at age 13 '1963 , We were bad .14 you got a car . Oh , The Moving Sidewalks Tom Moore on keyboards. Impotent , Dan Electors ( Houston) is raising money to save his sight . This Post an inspiration ,Tom was drafted into Vietnam just as they got real good , now due to complications from Diabetes , he needs this operation . $100K a worthy cause !

  • pazzo scatenato!!!

  • looks like Emerson has to take a shit and he's having trouble holding it in

  • Working this show is going to be fun...

  • I hope they've calmed down since those days!

  • Im not trying to dis Emerson by saying this, but I'm surprised he can still do all the stage antics involved with playing "Rondo" live and not break a bone!

  • @1994AlmostSkater He was amazingly fit and this is not a very early performance. Would not surprise me if he was 40 here He's 66 now or soon will be. He's not doing these antics now. Still looks quite young for his age. He was doing his act like this well into his 40's

  • @westpalmscott Haha, wouldn't surprise me. It's rare to see footage where he's not profusely sweating so he has obviously gotten a lot of good exercise from performing

  • che tamarro

  • IL MIGLIORE!!!!! KEITH EMERSON

  • What song is that called that he starts playing at about 3:30?

  • Ι think it is solo

  • Revolucionário

  • 4;40 is genius, a true virtuoso!

  • this is my favorite, piece and keith's playing it!

  • Today is Laurent Hammonds birthday.

    115 Years.

  • Comment removed

  • i like classical music and i like prog rock but i dont think they had much to do, they are very different

  • Keith is a stage beast.

  • yeah

  • keith emerson is soooooooooooo cool!!!

  • YESSSSSSSSSSS

  • Im sorry.... but did he just hop on his keyboard and STAB it?! 3:10

  • Of course! He's Keith Emerson! It's what he does.

  • Emerson been doing that for years

  • Are you frigging kidding me???????? HE'S BEEN DOING THAT SINCE 1967... YES I SAID 1_9_6_7 (at least)... No one even comes close to Keith Emerson when it comes to playing and/or showmanship.... NO ONE..!!! No even Rick Wakeman (don't get me wrong, I also love R.W.)... Tha's why they were called "THE FIRST SUPER GROUP" of rock even before they released their first L.P. ... WOW..!! It makes you wonder, doesn't it??? LONG LIVE... NOT!!! FOR EVER LIVE EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER..!!!

  • @TJLAW7

"No one even comes close to Keith Emerson when it comes to playing"

Come on dude, Jon Lord ever heard of him?

He didn´t fuck the organ but he played/plays rock better.

  • @larteonceagain Keith Emerson first inspired Deep Purple...

  • LEGEND..

  • Always loved ELP, for me, i love this song but when played live, it's all about the showmanship.

  • organos eran los de antes...

  • was he playing flight of the bumblee bee from 2:06-2:17

  • Yes, but it in reality the tune is Blue Rondo al La Turk from Dave Brubeck--the 60's jazz tune. Listen to Brubecks version and check out the difference. Brubeck was a musical genius for his day.

  • Los putos amos!!!

  • he stabbed the keyboard! =O

  • Close your eyes if you like or need to (I tried it) and listen: an opening landscape of stunning breathtaking an touching music.

  • I don't know about that - for me one of the best things about YouTube is that it allows everyone the freedom to share whatever music gives them pleasure. But there certainly seems to be a lack of tolerance for other people's musical tastes in some of the comments posted. I don't understand why anyone would feel compelled to bitch about a piece of music they don't like on YouTube, rather than just acknowledging that it doesn't do anything for them and letting it go. Life's too short!

  • @ladyskyflake I've got an solution; don't watch fucking comments, just listen to the music :D

  • I was at this gig and I must admit Keith looked pretty stupid in his clobber and compounded it with the juvenile graffiti.

  • this guy, Keith....

    He is important

  • emerson is jusy amazing

  • How the fuck does Keith Emerson do this magic ?

  • For a second I was trying to figure out if this was a construction site or a rock concert. The organ sounds like a saw cutting through metal and the drums and bass sound like a black guy looking for a hammer the first few seconds. Keith Emerson is the man.

  • The Jack-n-Cokes just kicked in people...it took 4 athem

This is MY kind of Musical Masturbation -- somebody call HazMat

    paper not plastic

  • oooh it really hurts to see him destroying it...

    But he's a genius

  • Yeah, but its great madness!

  • I certainly drives me mad !

  • That's good! Then its doing its job! hahaha!

  • Good! Not only is it doing its job, its doing it well! I know its hideous and overblown, that's the point! Its offbeat, and not a cute little quickie! Its brilliant! So there!

  • 76 to86 what's your age?10 go listen to madonna or britteny

  • That explains a lot

You can´t apreciate this music 'cos you´ve been burning your brain over 20 years with drugs

  • You do realise that statement is libellous ?!

  • yeah, maybe as libellous as calling crap to the music that changes peoples´life... at least mine

  • You seem to have an inability to distinguish between abuse against the music, and abuse against the people.

I have nothing against the members of ELP, I'm sure they're very nice people, who happen to produce this utter dirge they call music. But that is only my opinion of the music. But to say "You can´t apreciate this music 'cos you´ve been burning your brain over 20 years with drugs" is just personal abuse.

  • I'm not talking about those guys... actually I don't like Lake... I mean people like me. My life is better thanks to what you call crap

It is just your opinion... But I just felt angry about your manner, just forget it

  • Take a look at my latest suggestion !

If there's one thing in nature that has more difficulty mixing than oil and water, it's prog rock and punk !

I think I will formulate this "Roddy's Law".

  • roddy76to86. Why do you bother to call this music dirge when you obviously don't like this genre?

Your comments, like you, are totally irrelevant.

  • Just indulging in a bit of hippie baiting.

  • how the fuck is that? prog rock has meaning behind it plus is sounds excellant punk music is like a big pile of steaming shit!

    PS. ELP RULZ

  • Don't hold back any will you ?

Someone should set up a prog rock/punk rock debating society. No weapons allowed.

  • i have said my piece and if i offended you then i am sorry but i dont like people coming to videos they dont like and then leaving comments that bash the vid.

  • My reply was meant to be tongue in cheek.

  • 'ere 'ere! Prog rock rules!!!

  • Lower even than hip-hop and trance? That's harsh man. Even heard a piece called And You and I? I mean how can you listen through it and claim something like that. Beautiful music is just beautiful music no matter what genre. Progrock tends to have a LOT of gorgeus music in it. This isn't exactly gorgeus, agreed, this isn't my favorite aspect of ELP even, but that claim is still so harsh that it verges over to even ignorance, I would say. The vast amount of good music? 7th - 20 century, I'd say

  • Well I can't stand hip-hop, and I don't even know what "trance" is !

I'm Roddy76to86 remember, the years when 95% of the best music was made.

And if punk/post-punk was so bad then how did it manage to more or less destroy the careers of ELP, Genesis and Yes ?!

Jethro Tull got a boost from it, and Neil Young's career was saved by punk.

  • If you compare Bach to years 76-86 then you're musically a looney.

Personal taste for personal taste, but step out of your punkdream and realize that it hasn't got anything on the truly greats. Hell, ELP is nearer but still far off.

  • I'm more of a Mozart man myself.

  • And I bet Mozart would have hated ELP, but loved the Ramones !

  • I think the other way.

  • He would have been blown away by the Ramones, and then would have thought who are these pretentious bastards producing that dirge...

  • yeah we all know people like mozart and beethoven were FAR from pretentious. Oh yeah neither were people like the Ramones or the sex pistols or the clash.

    /sarcasm

I love ELP and The Ramones and all those classical guys and it's hard to know what they would've liked in terms of modern music but it's hard to believe mozart would dismiss music like this as "pretentious" and been blown away by the simplicity and uncreativeness of the Ramones. I still love ramones but come on. seriously.

  • There's nothing wrong with a bit of speculation !

  • emerson is the greatest

  • You'd think ELP would have more female fans. Look at Keith- up on stage playing with his organ like that!

  • I wonder how many Hammonds he has destroyed.

  • I don't think it's that many. Unfortunately they are quite durable and it looks like it has been modified so it can withstand the abuse. I'm also convinced that many of the unnessesary (fragile?) parts has been removed because otherwise he would not be able to throw it about like that.

  • I want the video with Keith stabbing the synth... but this is pretty freaking amazing

  • Keith...you look ridiculous. Buy a better outfit!

  • This is the best 10 minutes in rock and roll history

  • Keith always gives 110% - here it's 150%

    pure entertainment :D

  • Is keith trying to look like andrew dice clay?

  • saw elp in the eighties on the big stage at the forum in los angeles .greg lake rose from the center of the stage singing welcome back my friends...

  • keith = best musican ever!1

  • To drag/slash/upend/twirl a stand-up organ around to create certain parts of the musical interlude is amazing...

  • hes a showman but he has the technique to back it up.

  • And the back at his age! He's often said that while modern keyboards are more reliable an convenient, there is absolutely no theatre involved, and so little else to offer your audience other than pretty sounds.

  • What shall I say?

    Absolut GENIUS

  • hum hum ok

  • nice jacket keith!

  • lol - carl looks bored....

  • emerson è il meglio del meglio. Trpoopo bravo

  • I usually hate it when musicians destroy their instruments, but this is awesome!

  • Who needs drugs when you've got this??!!! It seems that Rondo always brings out the best in Keith.

  • I always hated that Keith put this in 4/4. Should have kept it Brubecks 9/8.

  • One time during his days in The Nice, Keith Emerson was performing Rondo and at one point he jumped over the organ and ended up in the orchestra pit and the security people wouldn't let him go back up on stage. He said, "You better let me back on stage, I've got a number to finish up there." He had the same happen later in in EL&P. He is still a master of the Hammond and Robert Moogs best customer. He put Moog on the map.

  • UNA LEGGENDA!!

  • Hammond lovers, search for Leon Kuijpers and see video's of a Dutch new B3 wizzard. Its brilliant.

  • Goduria assoluta

  • Kieth Emerson is amazing

  • I thought so too, till I saw this vid. He made an ass of himself. He's not Keith Moon.

  • You know this was part of their act since day one. It's all in good fun. And abusing keyboards goes all the way back to -- Beethoven.

  • hmmmm Beethoven might have 'abused' his piano only because the last years of his life he was stone-deaf, therefore the only way he could 'hear' any of the music he was playing was by banging on the keys and feeling vibrations from the strings. So, unlike Mr. Emerson, he had a reason to abuse his keyboard.

    Oh well... who cares really...

  • You never see this do this with a Hammond B3.

He's using the the good old L 100.

  • Or perhaps a M100?

  • The L100 is a little bit better than the M100. The percussion section sounds more B3. I have a M102 with a 760 Leslie. This are spinet Hammonds.

  • Are you shure? I read at some Hammond pages that the M100(M102 as well) and M3 are almost identical to the consol organs A,B,C,D."The poor mans Hammond" as they called it.

  • The difference between the M and L types and the A,B,C,D is the keyboardsize. The spinet organs only have 44 keys and the big ones i belief 64 and a lot more drawbars.

  • Sorry 61 keys.

  • Ok,but I still belive the M organs are closer sounding to the A,B,C,D than L organs. No?

  • Keith Emerson is amazing, but this is not one of his better solos; it was pretty boring. Reminded me too much of Townshend, Moonie and Daltrey.

  • Keith Emerson = Jimi Hendrix of the keyboard.

  • Poor little Hammond... But Keith Emerson is a GENIUS!

Ah... plase note the liiiiiiiiiiittle moog synth rear him when he returns on his keyboard stage

  • The Godfathers of Prog, and the greatest keyboardist to ever grace the genre. Period.

  • tht noise cant be good on tht amp either but hellz ya

  • I laughed my ass off watching this video. This man is such a genius :P

  • Poor hammond, but ELP Rulez!!!

  • excellent and best man in history of rock

  • Briliant.. well worth watching

  • Keith Emerson è un grande!

  • wn extraño... no me guto... ta loko ese wn

  • what a crazy man...

  • "There is a method in his craziness"..." LUUUUV Keith!

  • this dvd is live at royal albert hall, elp is the best group ever, emerson the most greatest man in the history of rock

  • FUCKING AWESOME! Emerson's sexual enenrgy in this is topped only by Hendrix's classic Monterey 'burning strat' performance. THIS is the definition of masculinity AND the greatest male bonding experience any guy can have who's lucky enough to be there watching in person, especially up front. Its like watching a master TAKE- not rape- a ravishly beautiful woman who WANTS to be taken and completely dominated. Nothing like it. Go Keith!

  • well put. I'm not gay either, but... he he.

  • this is the definition of elp

  • Iheard stories about this video, I see It was all true. )

  • Abuse my organ :)

  • what dvd is this from

  • Awesome!

  • Dio mio che bravo!

  • keith was a knife thrower in a circus before ELP

  • i was at this gig... absolutely stunning all round.. I am indeed a Lucky Man!
