They work and they don't work depending upon what type of attack it is. if its an unarmed attacked these moves work great, but if it deals with weapons and such as guns and knives in close armed range they won't be effective. This is where a martial art like Krav Mega comes into play that deals with weapon defense.

I don't know where they got their information.  Florian is not even remotely in the top rankings. The only two decent oponents he fought beat him. Hey, I'm not trying to rag on KenFlo. He's one of my favorite fighters. He's got very good ground skills, and his Muy Thai has become pretty solid. IMO, however, Karo is skilled enough to make his size advantage count. Not that the UFC would ever do this. Karo is shooting for a WW title shot, and Kenny is right there for another LW title shot.

Are you kidding me? Once again, "ultimate fighting" does not equal "total realism." Yes, Florian is a great fighter and probobly could beat the vasy majority of people out there, but that's in a controlled enviroment with many rules. There are plenty of "dirty" moves that can be used to counter an experienced grappler; of course the police can't rip someone's balls off if they mount them, but even a BJJ/Chin-na hybrid course or pressure point training would have made them better prepared.

Again, I'm not dissing Kenny in any way, but there are people who have devoted much of their lives to training law enforcement, secret service, bodyguards, you name it; I know several of them. It's good that they're actually showing interest in H2H combat outside of the training they get (which is far too sparse in some areas), but there are better people/training methods for the job, and that isn't even debatable.

I don't think this would be the smartest thing to do, on the street, you don't know if they guy has backup, a knife, a gun hidden, or whatever, if the cage, they play with rules, in realy life there aren't any, MMA guys train for sport fighting.

I think that this kind of training for police officers is necessary and should be a part of the basic academy. I applaud Ken Flo's efforts to better prepare law enforcement officers for a dangerous job.
