This film gives me butterflies. So twisted it really shows the mind and our imaginations have no limits. It's so fascinating to see how sick humans truly are. Most of us are just to prudish to embrace our own desires because as many comments on here suggest we are afraid of what we don't understand. And dismiss it as depraved, perverted, pornography.

Can someone answer me the question - is the director of this filthy, piece of $*@$% degenerate art movie David Cronenberg a Jew? I don't hate Jewish people, I just note that they have consistantly been accused of lowering the culture in host countries that put up with them.

in a sense it is a fetish, an obsession about an idea or event, object, etc... but, the argument isn't about if they can help it or shouldn't do whatever, a fetish is not the addiction - it's the feeling that the fetishist gets from it, that's what they are 'addicted' to. and, for each fetish there are millions of different views on what is so appealing about it.

@cardos5 Ballard wrote it after his wife died, he was really feeling the pain of human existence, which really comes through in the book. I don't think David Cronenberg captured the book perfectly, but he did as good a job as anybody ever could. The best thing to do is to read the book whilst listening to Howard Shore's soundtrack. That was an experience, I'll tell you!

I definitely needed to watch this movie several times in order to start appreciating it as a very interesting film. The first viewing was just disturbing because of the subject matter, then I read some analysis of the story and viewed it again. Eventually it became a great movie in my mind. Also, the acting is so devoid of emotion that if you do not realize the intent of the message it is easy to say the actors did a poor job, and that is not true. Well acted, directed and written.

I keep coming back to something with this movie... it's really compassionate. These people are driven by their own compulsions and manias to destroy themselves and each other, and they're helpless as they watch their intimacies die.

It's as romantic a movie as I've ever seen.

just rip the audio track and as an MP3 file. compress it into a zipped RAR file and upload it to a site like rapidshare or megaupload. then we can download it, sync it up to our dvd playback. i did that with a brown bunny commentary MP3 someone uploaded. might be easier than chopping it up into 10 different files

@KLX1410 The whole point of uploading this was to listen to Cronenberg's commentary. Last I check the commentary is only available on laserdisc. Can you find a way to rent and play a laserdisc? lol Good luck.

STILL hoping to hear the rest of this commentary.....commentary on this film in particular would be interesting because it is much more opaque and oddly constructed than most of his work....and that is saying quite a bit!!
