  • I'm American and doesnt Waterloo mean bathroom?

  • Someone forgot to invite the Prussians...

  • That officer from the foot guards is too fat. There were no soldiers in the napoleonic wars that were overwieght. Those guys would march 15 to 20 miles a day during a campaign.

  • the French uniforms are hot

  • i think i saw Richard Sharpe!!!!!!

  • @kingbleah In war, at that time? where is your study?

  • if theyre getting close retreat reform and give them and give them another volley.

theyll soon get the message and rout.

  • ah the green jacketed British Rifles. they are absolutely deadlty in a computer game called Napoleon Total War. Just keep them out of range firing away at the Old Guard and theyll make mincemeat of them.

The idea is to exploit the extra range so the enemy never has a chance to get off a single shot.

  • can anybody help me pls where can i find a hat like this

  • looks fun

  • lol by the looks of the scale of this battle looks like the recession was hitting the troops back then too! xD looks like nappy had to put up with a badly equipped force and very few of em at that!

  • wtf some of those frog grenadiers are sportin the old 1798 style caps... nooooobs!

  • @infinitecanadian its mroe like watchign a play where the actors dont know their cues, and are all disorganized

  • @mlafferty1100 Couldn't agree more. And besides, there are no casualties.

  • The one dislike came from Napoleon. xD

  • @Maplestone94 the second dislike came from Ney!

  • these reenactors are terrible. they need to drill more. even their volleys sucked

  • @mlafferty1100 If these guys really were in battle they would be slaughtered very quickly.

  • cannon: BOOOOM

guy on other end: oh no! a ball of smoke

  • WE KICKED YOUR ASSES IN BORODINO!!! SUCK IT BRITAIN!!!

    WESTPHALIA #1!!!!!!

  • @kingbleah

Last I check, "English" "French" "German" where all "Ethnicities"

  • pretty sure most of these guys dont want to die cuz they would have to fall down and soil their perfect uniforms ><

  • i would love to be in a reeancatment

  • Is it volunteers?

  • You call this re enactment? The guys at the LHC are going to recreate conditions milliseconds after the big bang.

  • The Bearskins were given to the Coldstream Guards after the Battle of Waterloo

  • The British did not wear the Bearskins at Waterloo !!!

  • @cheval572 Depends...grenadiers and Musicians wore Bearskins after 1768

  • No, indeed. I talked about real ones. Repros are indeed better but it's really hard to get a weapons license in the Netherlands. But their are much better at shooting, I agree. And cheaper. But if you don't get a license, you're already being illegal when you buy one -_- .

  • @ViccardXViccc I have come to the conclusion that the originals were much more reliable than repros, for several reasons. If you get lucke enough to get a TRULY faithful reproduction, it will perfom as well as originals.

  • Dying and then being "recycled" is one of the worst things to do as a reenactor. The spectators notice that people get back up, and they call you out on it if they see it enough. If you're dead, STAY DEAD.

  • @josded Agreed! And also, I think people should die on each volley to make it realistic, this reenactment seems to have enough people to do so.

  • @kingbleah Look at 5-30. Guy with a turban. Eqyptian mamaluke.

  • the 95th rifles are a beast of a unit nice vid

  • why was nobody falling over on this? it just looks like a bunch of people firing muskets and not hitting anybody

  • @OW41N They don't have very much people. In there were a lot of falling people they would have nobody left after 10 minutes of fighting.

  • @ViccardXViccc i re enact myself 17th century english civil war and even if there are not alot of us we still lose men to make it look better

  • @OW41N Yeah, but this is WATERLOO! Nobody wants to die at that battle ;-)

  • @ViccardXViccc even being killed while re enacting is fun :D it just looks like a buch of guys playing with toy guns otherwise

  • @OW41N Toy guns? most of them are real, not even replica. Really muskets from 180-200 years ago ^^

  • @ViccardXViccc that is why i said looks like, read first please, and i fight alongside musketeers as a pike block, we use pike and shot tactics of the 17th century and our people drop dead after a while, makes it look better and its fun to die :D

  • @OW41N No doubt about that. Dieing is fun ^^

  • @ViccardXViccc it sure is especially in a last stand :P then its epic!!! but i would like to see aq napoleonic wars re enactment :D

  • @ViccardXViccc Calling the bullshit. I'd never carry an original into battle, and though Europe has tight gun control laws and you need to jump through a bagillion hoops, I bet most reenactors are smart enough to use repros. I know most reenactors use repros, because there simply arent enough originals left.

  • @josded I'm a re-enactor myself, smart guy.

The thing about real muskets is, that they don't fall under the European weapon laws, because they were made before the laws were made.

It's actually harder to get a repro on the field then it is for a real one.

Off course they are repaired where needed and often they don't work on the first or second try. It's funny to see people getting mad as their musket doesn't shoot over and over again ^^.

  • @ViccardXViccc then they buy from crap people. I never have problems with my repros. I don't care if you're a reenactor or not, it just doesnt make sense. Ive talked to reenactors from the UK, and they've never indicated that their repros sucked.

  • @ViccardXViccc NOPE. A repro costs a fraction of an original, and most originals are nowhere near a Condition deemed "Servicable"

  • @LutzDerLurch Are you an re-enactor?

  • @ViccardXViccc Yes.

e.g. aBrown Bess might be had for $500 (idia made), 1000 (europeand made) or 2500 (custom build) including Bayonet. The latest and most numerous surviving Besses, of the IndiaPattern, will sell for 2-5k. when in reasonable Condition. If you are looking for a servicable ShortLandPattern, prepare for 10-20k and dont even think about a long-Land.

  • If you like this sort of thing, you may want to buy the game Mount and BladE:Warband and play the Mount and Musket mod, look up some videos of it, it is fun.

  • It really doesnt look as intense as the US Civil war reeactments......but interesting.

  • LOL imagine you'r getting really into it like in formation and firing ur muskets and then...you catch a glimpse of Tesco in the background XD

  • Talk about close quarters 0_0. ACW reenacting is usually far apart and all around. These guys have great discipline. :)

    Nice footage!

  • Acw reenactors sometimes do hand to hand with fixed bayonnets, and we elevate our muskets to prevent powder burns at close range. Hand to hand with bayonnets should only be done between units that have trained with each other. As for gun laws in Europe they are most definately stricter. Depends on the nation, but it looked like a nightmare If I ever tried to go acw reenact over in England

  • @josded

British american civil war is much the same as what you describe, but mainly when they do combat it's very light and theres a load of theater going on, it'd be nice if they would work on it a bit. the only diffrence is even though it's got a big following in england it's still small so the regiments look way under strength. I'd love to it in america where you get loads of people in a regiment and it actually looks realistic. I only did it for a year mind.

  • @Necrovamp101 well actually the only times we really get large amounts of people are at national events (ones on the actual battlefields, or close to) In the UK and France, you have a good amount of reenactors in an area smaller than the state of Texas, so your events are actually bigger because more of the reenactor population can get to them. From what I have seen, the average event in England is bigger than some of the regional events over here.

  • @josded thats a good point i never thought of it like that, ive only seen footage of the huge battles in america like gettysburg.

  • @josded Well, Bayonet Combat was quite rare those Days... it was more like these Contests driving towards each other in cars at high speed...someone will give up eventually and retreat.

  • Everything is too clean, it makes it look pretend. I know you all care about your kit, but letting it get a little run down would make for a more authentic appearance.

  • @van1980 on the other hand, many look to dirty. Too many people think that back in the past everything was dirty and so on. That is clearly wrong. Things were cared for, as that also prolongued the items life. Dont believe Hollywood with all people having manure smeared all over their faces and childs gowing their teeth already black.

  • In answer to everyone's question's, why isn't anyone dying, their's only a limited number of re-enactors, if everyone "took a hit" every volley everyone would be dead after 10 minutes. Not every round hit the target too.

I'm a re-enactor for the Coldstream Guards and i take hits, i just roll around for a minute then get dragged up and thrown back into line by the drummer :) .

  • @lordTharrion-perhaps you can appreciate the irony of your comment regarding laws in america about firing replica arms? In Europe we may have more relaxed regs, but our schoolkids dont pack a loaded uzi in their lunch box......

  • GREAT reenactment but I have to agree why isn't there any fake dying

  • y is no1 fake dieing

  • hey ! who won this time ? The Frogs or les Rosbifs ?

  • @kallistene40 The Brits won of course. Did we ever lose to the French?

  • @ApproachWithCaution Well Why not the "french taunt" scene from "Holy Grail" ? Anyway we won the Hundred Years war (in which the Welsh proved awesome at archery and you were nasty towards some crazy maiden)...

  • @ApproachWithCaution Yes mate we lost to the French sometimes. Or we would still have northern France. As for Waterloo it’s a bit like the Americans saying they won the second world war. The facts are that it was won by the allied forces not just one country.

  • @ApproachWithCaution If you understood the French, and Napoleon, you would never have wished to defeat them. A risk to your nobility, for sure, but for the common man you put Europe back 200 years by defeating him. Nothing to be proud of.

  • Wow!!! And this is in Europe! I'd have thought that Europe (being what it is now) would be more strict on this kind of thing!

In America we have regulations against fixed bayonets on the field... and leveling muskets to fire... tsk, tsk.

  • @LordTharrion But with any luck I'll be there for 2015

  • where can i find a reenactment unit of this type in the Chicagoland area?

  • I will be there next year :D Waterloo or bust!

  • No one eer dies in these Napoleonic Battles. Atleast Civil war buffs throw themselves all over the place.

  • @ginjaninja1988 They can't die all the time, they don't have that many people

  • Cool movie, only the talking people are irritating :(

Who old do you have to be to join a reenactment group(who 'fights' on Waterloo)

  • do you like have script of when of falling down? or just do it yourself when u want

  • @Hawktotalwar a friend who reenacts, told me that their were different 'systems'. In his group, they decided before the battle who will not return ;)

  • finally just the video without someones stupid music over it thanks thumbs up

  • i have seen many military reinactments near where i live in wisconsin, and they haveafrican america people that play nazis so i dont know if you can get more out of place that that, very good video by the way ^_^

  • No. Fat people weren't invented until about 1910.

  • @Salguine but the american independence is before that...

    Nah, just kiding.................., or not?

  • @Salguine

    Good One! Lmao

  • @Salguine Kutuzov, one of the highest ranked Russian commanders in the Napoleonic Era was fat

  • @sciencebreivik don't forget napoleon

  • @sciencebreivik

actually compare with today's standards, he wasn't that fat

  • Lol dont think so

  • Maybe I am watching it wrong but are the reenactors trying to imply no one has died in this battle?

  • I love these videos, great stuff....the only thing I hate is all the chatter and laughing from the audience........not to mention the kids screaming and shit............fuck.

  • did you extra cut off the Prussians???

  • @JavertGermany The Prussians or the "Braunschweiger Feldcorps", in Black ? ^^

  • @Germy23685

I mean the 5th Prussian (Westfalian" Landwehr in blue! Braunschweig is Braunschweig and not Prussia...

    greatings

  • where is sharp

  • @zooolegy Man, that made me laugh the whole day!

  • @zooolegy right there in the beginning in the green uniform...those were The Rifles!

  • @samdogdamndog2

Right! I knew ist from Cornwell`s Richard Sharpe............nice Books and Films.

  • lol empire: total war

  • This is spectacular, I love seeing reenactments from other countries!

  • epic... loved the heavy cavalry

  • Do you have to have the proper uniform for that year (1805 vs 1813 styles) or just for that regiment in that period (1800-1815).

  • Sorry, what do you need to be a soldier in thesse re-enactment???

  • no actualy you don't need to be a presently serving solider or a past serving one just have the period uniform and wepaons and a shotgun licence or a rifle licence.

  • Once, in a different reinactment, Napoleon was a Historian, just for fact. You would probably have to go contact the reinactment group. It would cost alot of money, but it is worth it. And it is really cool.

  • to ryko26: im sure that the uniforms are expensive enough they would not have both the 1815 and pre-1815 uniforms, just one

  • american civil war was still using these tactics. lol.

  • Well it was only 50 years later. Napoleon was an amazing tactician for his time, so of course his strategies would be repeated for many decades to come. Weapons didn't change a whole lot in that time period either.

  • I enjoyed seeing this very much. Does anyone know where uniforms like these can be purchased in the U.S.? Thanks

  • What are all those Peninsula infantry doing mixed up with 1815 infantry?

  • Very nice Thank You Merci!!!!!!!!!!

  • Am I the only re-enactor left who giggles when a horsey boy falls off his nag?

  • Nope, I do ECW, had an event last weekend and someone fell off, it was funny until they told me to call an air ambulance....!

  • Yeah, loses the laugh when they're actually hurt, but really makes up for it when they go arse first off the horse during a charge!

  • I'd love to visit the battle this year, I'll have to check if it's the same date as the actual battle.

It's a shame that some squares are only made of 30 men. (combining would be better?)

When there is a bayonet charge, or the cavalry attacks, nobody seems to actually attack... the horses just run around a bit and infantry charges at normal speed... (of course safety measures I suppose)

Anyway, I'd love to see it this year

  • 1 13 awesome!!!!!

  • THE 95TH RIFLES!!! They are awesome

  • I'm not that familiar with the Napolianic War. Who is the guy is 6:30-6:38 with the fez wrapped in the turban? A Turk or one of the other Arab countries?

  • He is probably meant to represent Napoleon's famous bodyguard Roustan who was a Mamluk from Egypt.

  • @Slickrick1853 Good question, It is in-fact his trusted Arab servant ,Roustan . But for future reference Its spelt Napoleonic. :D

  • The only thing that I don't like in re-enactments is when people decide that they don;t want to die in the battle. Its kind of funny to see both sides line up and fire and only see like 3 guys go down.

  • I'd love to do something like this some day...i just wish more people wud do it so the battles became more epic

  • does anybody jnow who arranges this re-eactment?

  • Google 8eme de Ligne - I know the chap who organises it was one of their officers, not sure if he's still part of them, but he still sends the invites out to the re-enactment units ! Although from what I've seen, they are almost fully booked this year (the sponsors only provide a certain amount of cash, so there's a limit to how many they can provide powder for !)

  • I am a reenactor too, but i'm from Denmark, and we are only 25 people there. But my great great grandfader or something like that fought in this battle, under the 1st Sleswig regiment, and that was danish, so I think i'm going next year :-)

  • where was this at?

  • Waterloo, Belgium.

  • was that were the actual reenactment at? i know wher the real battle took place.

  • Yes this re-enactment took place on the actual battlefield at Waterloo.

  • ok thank you

  • @grompix1 and back then it was dutch :D

  • Didn't the 95th Rifles fight in redcoats at Waterloo?

  • Not as far as I am aware.

  • Why are so many of these re-enactors such fat cunts?

FFS ....they were under fed, weather beaten types back in the 1800's......some of those, especially the British officers have never done a forced march in their lives!

  • Reenacting of any type is so much better in europe than in the states. More people take it seriously.

Like in all reenacting a good portion are the fat fan boys that have more money to pay for it. But very few I saw in this video...9:06

  • Um, have you ever been to the Gettysburg reenactments? They are huge, and there end up being bodies all over the fields. Looked pretty real to me.

  • The 125th for Gettysburg was well done. I am talking about the overall huge sized fanboys that seem to up most of the smaller companies over there. I have spoken with some of the hardcore groups that go out into the wilderness for days but they are few in number.

  • You have to look at it like this, the reenactments here in the states are usually longer then most European reenactments. So who wants to be the first to die and to lay out in a field for a hour? That's why you really start to see more people fall the longer the reenactment gets, it makes it fun for the people watching, and for the people doing it.

  • So you don't 'recover' the bodies?

  • the gettysburg battle reenactments here in the states can be pretty long, so the men who get hit stay on the ground for the duration of the battle, there are thousands of ''bodies'' usually on the field at the end of the battle.

  • @Coveredfire01 I can vouch for that, I was at the 135th, and seeing some 7000+ dead confederates scattered about was impressive

  • Great video! It must have been great witnessing it!!! Unfortunately in my country (Malta) we barely get any reenactments at all. When there is one, the small number of 'troops' taking part spoils the fun :(

  • Whats the cheapest way to travel there?

  • You can.

Look up the 33rd Foot on Google and join the best Napoleonic unit in Britain.

  • Watching this makes me pround. How do you be a part of this? I cant find much on the internet about it.

  • Apart from doing a Google search on the internet I don't know how you would contact an association near you. Perhaps putting the same question to other YouTube re-enactment clips might help.

  • Le Garde Recule!

A great reenactment. Very colorful. I guess the close confines of the ground and the presence of so many horses prevented a true demonstration of casualties?

  • It was a really good display. Very impressive volley fire but I didn't see anyone falling down. Not sure why but the horses might be one reason. Thanks for commenting.

  • Excellent video, thanks for sharing!

    Greetings,

Anthony, 7th Bat. Inf. of the Line (BE)

  • You're welcome. Were you involved in this re-enactment then?

  • Yes, at this battle I portrayed a fifer, you can see me at about 1:36, the 2nd on the right of the screen.

  • Yes I spotted you.
