  • It's a shame there are so few video recordings of JD playing live, because Curtis was obviously a very gifted visual performer, as well as a good vocalist. I love this clip - the song is fantastic just to listen to, but here you get to see it being expressed, as well as just hearing it. Even though his dancing looks a bit strange at first, the honesty and un-pretentiousness shines through. They're putting a lot of thought into both sound and visuals. I like that.

  • the best band ever with that kind of tunes. unbeatable

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU THINK HOOKY BECOMES SANTA CLAUSE IN WINTER

  • she's clinging to the nearest passer by

she gave away the secrets of her past

a voice that told her when and where to act

This is the path to enlightenment. If it happens to you, don't be afraid, and don't hurt yourself.

Not everyone makes it. Don't listen to parasites, care for your body and mind, above all else.

You are not sick, you are on the honey path.

  • Disney is marketing Mickey Mouse 'Unknown Pleasures' t-shirts. One of those things where you just have to ask 'really?'

  • @artarthur2 I saw that, then today on Facebook I saw an article from rolling stone that Disney is pulling the shirt now. A couple of the shirts are on ebay going for $200 plus. Crazy. And I live 30 minutes from Disney. I should have bought six of em, flipped on ebay and I could have paid off my credit card debt.....oh well...

  • Great song, great lyrics!!! I once knew a woman exactly like this.I saw the great Joy

Division movie "Control" a few years ago.Great movie!!!

  • We,i mean the fucking humankind...we LOST CONTROL!

  • She lost control, ofcourse that is what women do best.

  • A few weeks ago, a girl in my math class had a seizurre. It was horrifying. All I could think was She's Lost Control. I'll never listen to this song the same way again. It's even more terrifying than before.

  • @MrPeguin666

  • @MrPeguin666, i don't know why but that's just the funniest damn thing...I'm going straight to hell

  • Look at the hurt in that man's eyes, he means it..

  • I know I always appreciate shots of the band, but this time it seems the camera guy moved away from Mr, Curtis too many times when it seemed he was ready to unleach the Ian Moves.

  • w.o.w.!

  • Ian Curtis was GOD (?)

  • what is so brilliant about this?

  • @dewaldjohan - They formed in July of 76' & this happened in July of 79'. As musicians they showed a shit ton of promise very quickly. They were only together for such a short period of time & look at the imprint they left on music. The drummer is ranked as one of the best in the World. This was music before its time & in that respect exactly like Jimi Hendrix's playing. The rawness & imperfections of it all plus the earnestness of Ian's lyrics in hindsight. Beautiful and timeless.

  • @MrEpiclylaterd I thought JD formed in 77'. After the Pistols' gig in Manchester.

  • @Radioheadhead90 - You're right about the gig but Warsaw formed in 76' then they played their first gig in 77'. The name of the band changed in 78' to JD. May 1980 was the end of Joy Division. It's crazy that normally one year would be extremely arbitrary & pointless to discuss, but with this band it really shows you how many songs they wrote & produced in 1-2years.

  • @MrEpiclylaterd Aah, thanks for the info :)

  • @MrEpiclylaterd thank you for your thorough and thought provoking reply. thanks :)

  • Ian Curtis, GENIUS!

  • Paul Morley's book about the band contains a reprint of an interview with Andy McCluskey where even at the time, he says "Joy Division will leave their mark." It's also worth getting for a brilliant interview with Bernard, Steve and Hooky.

  • You are fucking insane Ian, a fucking monster. Simply the best, I hope to see you performing in other world while having a beer fuck

  • fuking fuking so brilliant

  • best...............

  • fuck it! listen to terminal cheesecake......

  • nay: my neighbours at 107 market street killed him, man

  • shall i go out on a limb and say the band killed him?

  • @batavianism sorry....drugs killed him. Alcohol is a drug.

  • @kujo839 Actually, he hung himself because his wife wouldn't get back together with him and because of his struggles with epilepsy...

  • 261 fail

  • I almost cry everytime I listen to them, why am I not in this fuckin concert? :/

  • What a great artist Curtis was!! He never will be forgoten, but the youth from today have mostly no clue who is Ian Curtis or Joy Division....

    R.I.P. Curtis and Cobain

  • 1:36 you cannot focus on Bernard Sumner when Ian is starting to dance!!

  • Love it, it's sad that this happened.

  • Shut the fuck up and just listen to the music. Damn..

  • @paganelf

I'm trying to. It's really hard to find any in this thing... :\

It almost sounds like only the Drummer knows what he's doing.

  • @paganelf Do not shut up! Tell more about your thinking.

Could you think what you want?

  • Ian Curtis was so cool, dancing had nothing on him!

  • Ian Curtis is damn hot...

  • Ian Curtis <3

  • She's lost control again.... She's lost control..... Iam Curtis

  • the good die young..

  • hahaha te gek! :P

  • ian curtis looks so drugged up

  • @teor993 he was sort of ill

  • @teor993 He was. He has seizures and had to take pills. They made him drowsy and even more depressed.

  • The audience sits motionless, allowing Ian to physically emote for them.

  • Michael Jackson should be so lucky dancing like this

  • I used to dance like Ian Curtis, but then I took an arrow in the knee...

  • Listen to 'She's Hearing Voices' by Bloc Party. Same fucking song!

  • i dont really understand what seizures are. Is this one of it?

  • @anarkis94

No, actually it isn´t. When you have a seizure, you totally loose the balance, and control of your body. The myth about the whole "Ian Curtis" persona, says that when he dances, he avoids to get a fit. (Bad English lol)

  • Get your Epilept RX scripts out and-D-D-Dance

  • Hammer those Black Rodgers skins Stephen ... what a fucking beat, no wonder Ian always did the trance dance; lol

  • Awesome!! Great Fucking song!!1 Really really good!

  • looks like hes lost control again.

  • Ian curtis doesn't try to dance.. Dance tries to Ian Curtis..

  • @clancy2k heehee ^^

  • @clancy2k ian curtis doesn't try to do shit. he's dead.

  • @clancy2k LOL!

  • I love how the mix is totally fucked, a testimony to the era.

  • Seminal. I love them!

  • The movie "Control" is really good. The actor who plays Ian resembles him a lot.

  • @escapismhasruinedme the arctic monkeys sound like this band, rather.

  • @escapismhasruinedme don't insult joy division like that.

  • she didn't want lose control .... again...

  • Rabia y frustración, pero legendarios, una guitarrota, ASÍ SE TOCA.

  • @Juanpablo8559 tu si sabes tio, Joy Division son los putos amos del Post Punk y los casi creadores de la música gótica

  • Any dislikers need to get a fucking clue-this Band changed the future of Music, even guns and roses cite them as an influence!!!

  • @nefhead right. pure genius, especially the lyrics. and the singing. and the guitar . and the bass parts.and the beats. alright all of it.

  • fucking shite for sound. too bad. i am going back to watch the dvd. cant stand this. nice historical document tho. thanks for posting it.

  • Class, pure class.

  • @villasukat 258

  • @9362351 more people losing control.

  • @villasukat again

  • dat bassline

  • 256 people are entitled to their opinion.

  • @juanfranciscoh even if their opinions are fucking pussie ass tricks

  • I think Thom Yorke stole Curtis' crazy body movements

  • @24lightyears It's okeyhaha worse things can happen and at least you are saying a coherent thing.

  • Elle est pour toi Liz,

  • @18jamescott omg, the first thing I said was that I didn't understand why people pressed the dislike button so much, and then everybody replied me k? I gave my opinion too!

  • the greatest freakout ever and the camera keeps cutting to the other band members

  • My eyes start to look like his when I don't get enough sleep or if I am going through some kind of mental lock down type thing. You don't talk to anybody and you just wanna do what you want to do.

The other day my friend asked,"Hey,are you high? Nobody else wants to ask so I will." I just laughed and shrugged my shoulders. It's none of their business to know what I'm going through.

Just recently found Joy Division, and I can't stop listening to them.

Ian Curtis was something else entirely.

    LM.

  • Check our version D:

  • i'd completely lost control

  • 日本での評価が低すぎる・・・。

  • This song is a masterpiece but many people do not know it is about my mom's bowels. It's not her fault. She is getting old.

  • @whytoodeep no, to click it when something is disgusting in general. then what's the point of listening to music you don't like?

  • this is awesome i've just lost control

  • 9gag :)

  • yea, curtis was totally OUT of control ... but ... i like it

  • fuck, I so love this song...

  • It was unusual in the 70's for people to sing live, so i'm glad they did :)

  • @TraceyLouise2260 wait what?

  • @SwordsDragonsAndCoke I guess she ment that it was unusual in the 70's for people to sing live on TV, but still I'm not sure if that's correct or if she ment that.

  • @SwordsDragonsAndCoke usually on t.v in the 70's , singers mimed. Its unusual to see someone sing live on t.v in the 70's. i'm glad they went ahead and sang live anyway

  • Everytime i try and dance like him to this song i get the goosebumps and freeze, its weird but i love it!

  • I love Ian Curtis so much. His voice, his lyrics, his dance, his presence on stage. Everything was incredible about this man. I'm so sorry he had no where to turn with his problems; we lost an absolute talent. Love you Ian, and your music, forever.

  • the fucking intro was nice. those drums are bad ass

  • ian curtis looks stoned in this

  • it could be they search it and listened to it for the first time. if they dont like then so be it

  • what's the point on clicking the unlike button if you don't like the music?

if you don't like it, then don't search it don't listen to it.

    FUCK

  • @LePinkMarshmallow something happens with the dislikes. i dont know what but im gonna search for it. fuck dislikers.

  • @Seed1992 I just can't understand why would somebody listen to music thet don't like...

  • @LePinkMarshmallow *laughs* Well, what's the point of clicking on the "like" button, then? If no one clicked the dislike button, the number of likes would just be a fixed fraction of the number of views, no new insight gained. Musik is art, and for any piece of art, liking, disliking and an undecided attitude are all valid reactions. Please, accept that not all people share your taste of music.

  • @Hermandari hehe I don't look for music I don't like just to click the fucking unlike button, but that's just me...

  • @LePinkMarshmallow Often people are told to watch it by a friend, or directed to it, or have heard about the band and wants to find out if the band's any good.

They don't search just to click the dislike button. That would be truly sad.

  • @Hermandari LePinkMarshmallow is right.

  • @LePinkMarshmallow what's the point of bitching? Does it really matter in the end?

  • @LePinkMarshmallow what do you think is the point of the unlike button? to not press it? >.>

  • wow...top geezer

  • @LePinkMarshmallow umad? why do you care about the dislike bar?

  • @LePinkMarshmallow well people need to listen to it before they know if they like it or not... hence searching them on youtube, or stumbling onto it... people can have opinions, why does the like bar bother you so much?

  • @LePinkMarshmallow

I clicked it because the audio quality was ass. Sorry.

  • @LePinkMarshmallow

    quit fucking crying.

  • @LePinkMarshmallow Some people do it by accident when they want to add the video in their favourite list...they click the wrong button...it happened to me. it's a stupid thing i know...

  • @LePinkMarshmallow I dislike this comment

  • Comment removed

  • @LePinkMarshmallow What if you wanted to know if you do like it? ....its there get over it and just enjoy the music. It doesnt matter if some dont like it
