  • woo hoo OMG I finally got it! been trying to learn this granny square for months now, each time I did it it came out wrong so I got frustrated with it and put it down. NOw I finally got it. Thanx for going so slow

  • Teresa, you have no idea how excited I am, I have been trying unsuccessfully to do this for months by watching tutorials on youtube, and now that I found your video, I have my very first granny square sitting in front of me!!!! Somehow you made it easy. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. You are a treasure!

  • i hate this

  • Teresa, my granny square is always round and it begins to look like a hat? What is the problem?

  • @crock4596 It sounds like you are missing the corner increase stitches. That is where you work 3DC, CH2, 3 DC in the same space.

  • same here.. I see the square if i pull the edges but they are still round. Im using Red Heart super saver -4- Is this yarn not the best for it? Should i be putting more tension in the corners.. Im just so confused

  • @lalaroxyou Try working the stitches looser and make sure you are getting the increase corners.

  • @themarinegirly You are welcome.

  • a thick round circle..... i did the corners

  • i have been trying to make a blanket but i still can't get it. help!!!!!!!!!!! all i get is a donut.):p

  • @joyandjoynesscharlie What do you mean donut?

  • Thank you for your video in slow motion. I know how to make the granny square but have some issues with correctly changing colors. Also, does it matter if you chain one or chain two between stitches prior to the corners?

  • @1blessed12 You can do either a chain 1 or 2. You will see later on if you have to many chains, the corners will point out further than the rest of the square. That would be an indication that you would need to use less chains in the corner. Usually it works even with the chain 1 or 2. Both will work.

  • i have a circle and i dont have the holes you do what am i doing wrong?and i finally figured it out i think

  • Please could you tell me if you know how to make slippers out of the granny square pattern,I just love those slippers, thanks.

  • Please could you tell if you know how too make slippers out of the granny square pattern.thanks.

  • i have been trying to learn this for hours lol... hopefully i will get it soon, but nomatter what i do, i always end up with a lopsided square-ish sort of figure. its never a nice pretty square like you have there... hmm

  • Keep practicing and you will get it. I do have written instructions posted on my crochet blog with a symbol diagram of the stitch placement. That will give you a visual of where the stitches go and may help you see what you are missing.

  • Thanks to you I will be making my FIRST EVER GRANNY SQUARE BLANKET!!! ^_^ I can't begin to thank you enough for making this video and taking into consideration how fumble-fingered some of us are when learning! The speed of the teaching was PERFECT. Thank you!!! 5 stars!!! ^_^

  • Thank you for the rating and leaving a comment.

  • I'd Like To Start Off Saying, I Love You Too!!! I Have Been Trying And Trying To Make My Kids Each Their Own Blanket And Every Time I Thought I Was Getting It Right At The End It Was Always Wrong. I Almost Gave Up On It All Together And Tonight I Watched About 6 Videos And Went To Many Different Sites And Couldn't Get It Until I Came Across Yours. Thank You So Much!

  • You are welcome, I appreciate the comment.

  • I just want to say THANK YOU!!! I was struggling w/this & I looked at other videos and yours was easy to follow and now I have it down, thank again :)

  • You are welcome. I have a lot more squares posted when you are ready. Thank you for the comment.

  • i tried watching video and still cant get the hang of it I want to make 1 large varigated granny square is there anyway to get a written version

  • I thought the link was posted. I apologize about that. I have included the link to the written instructions to the right of the video under "More Info".

  • I found your video and i made my first ever granny square like on the video of course.. :D thanks alot, will keep working at it

  • Hi there, first I have to say "I LOVE YOU"...I attended 2 crochet classes and at the end of them hadn't produced a thing. I discovered I had been told a dc was a tr and the handwrittne pattern I was given was incorrect. I watch 2 of your videos and voila! Thank you so much for the fantastic vids. The slow motion thing is great and the camera angle superb. I hope there are more of these available. If it hadn't been for your vids I would have chucked it in.

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you. The stitches you were taught are probably correct for the country you live in. What you need to keep in mind is that you have learned American crochet. If you purchase patterns in your country, they will not make any sense to you because the stitches were taught different. When I come across a British English pattern, the stitches are written different so I would have to translate the stitches to figure out what they mean.

  • As long as you have Internet, there are a lot of free patterns online written with American crochet language.

  • this helped me a ton!

  • Thank you.

  • yay! i just successfully completed my first granny square! :D they have always been a challenge for me, idk why. there are many many more to come. maybe a blanket out of those many :D

  • I am glad that you go it. Keep practicing and it will all get easier.

  • Thank You very much with your help I have sucessful learnt to crochet and complete my first granny square!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Hello there again it's been a while since I last commented on your wounderful works I do find this granny square stitch a little more faster than the other one you had posted but I also do like the other one I hope that you do keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more new stuff

  • Thank you. I appreciate your comment. I do have a longer version of this square that include 5 rounds.

  • thank you for showing my wife how to do a granny square....

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment. I many more crochet pattern stitches if she would like to learn more.

  • THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!! ive always wanted tomakea granny square and i've finally done it! tytyty :))

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Your video is very confusing. You do not explain each step or show the work as it progresses. I am done trying to follow your videos Very disappointing.

  • There is a lot of slow motion done in this video, which was a common request when I started doing video's.

  • Danke :) teresa ***

  • You are welcome. :)

  • hi, i did 10 rounds.. but my square is curling up? is it bze am pulling my yarn tight? what shud i do to have a neat end?

  • Are you still increasing in the corners? You may need to loosen up or add another chain in the corner. The square should be laying flat.

  • thank you, very helpfull video. Finally i learn the granny square!!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • me again! i just watched your video on crocheting a heart and i've decided to try making a baby blanket in the shape of a heart. for the third time, thankyou! you are a blessing!

  • i just want to thankyou so much for your part 1 and part 2 videos! i promised my 12yr old son i would teach him to crochet a baby blanket for his new nephew, he is an uncle for 1st time at age 12. he is only with me for a short time and now i can send him back home crocheting his first real project! again , thank you.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Wow! Thank you so much! I had some problems looking at patterns, now it all make sense. You are the best!! :)

  • OMG this is so pretty but I TOTALLY suck at this. My square looks more like a cirlce..:(

  • Thank you. Your piece being in a circle leads me to believe that you are missing the extra stitches for the corners.

  • Thank you so much for doing this. Although mine looks more "round" than square, I'm starting to get the hang of it. I wish you were near me so I can learn more, when I crochet blankets, my edges are NEVER even. I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can you do a small chain, and do a few turns in DC so I can see? Thanks again!

  • I recorded a real time video today with the granny square. There will be no slow motion and limited editing. It will have 2 rounds.

  • Crochet-Granny Square -thank you so much.this one was so easy to undrstand.i didnt get the other blue square. can you please do it in slow moton?thank you for all your great video. you are so kind.

  • There is a version of the same solid granny square in slow motion. I believe it is done in a red color. "Solid granny square slow motion tjw1963" Type or copy and paste these keywords to the Youtube video search. There are two parts to the video.

  • Dear tjw1963 i found it thanks see my coment ther.i folowed the gray soft one.

  • I'm working overseas & I don't have access to crochet lessons in English. Thank you so much for making these videos!

I've made my first (successful) granny square as large as I want it and have finished the second half of the shell for the last corner. But what do I do to join the two edges & finish it off so I can weave in my loose ends?

  • Type in or copy and paste these keywords in the youtube video search. "piecing together granny square tjw1963" My video will come up at the top.

  • instead of doing a single crochet to start the cluster of 3 dc 2ch 3dc can i just do a slipstitch to start and then do the ch3 then start the cluster? to me it is much easier and it look cleaner to me give me your opinion as to what it would look like if i would to change it up a little. Thanks for the video it really helped me out.

  • The only reason that I chain 1 and then single crochet is so that I end up in the corner, otherwise I will be right up against the other stitches. If you think of something that works better for you and looks nice, then use it. If you don't like how it looks, you can always rip it out and start over.

  • I got an instructional type book at the store, and one of the projects is an afghan made up of granny squares. Last night I was getting so frustrated trying to figure out what the pattern instructions meant. The granny squares in the pictures in the book look almost identical to the one you made. I think I'll just go with your pattern and not be frustrated about it :) Thanks for posting this!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • ok- off to the part 2 slow motion granny square- waiting for the download to finish- out of curiousity- your id name has "1963" in it- by any chance is it your birth year? If so- mine is to! I thought it was cool- again thank you for doing great public service !

  • Unfortunately I only have 10 minutes per video so I am unable to do to many slow motion tutorials. I like to keep each tutorial around 2-3 segments.

  • Oh my! I'm so glad I found you! I'm so excited about doing a granny square now. I can't wait to watch and learn from all of your video goodies. Thanks!

  • I am so happy, I just made my 1st square!! YAY!! This is something that I've wanted to learn for years. I'm so excited. :) TY so much!! Quick question... once the square is completed how much yarn should you cut off where you've ended, and do you just weave it in to keep it from unravelling?

  • If you are not doing anything further with your tail, like using it to sew squares together, just cut 4"-6" off. Once you pull your thread through it should be secure from unraveling at that point. You just weave the tail in to hide it. You could leave the tail out and it should still be secure.

  • i have been trying to make a proper looking granny square forever...i have followed many of the videos here and none of them were very specific, even the ones meant for beginners always confused me at some point and my squares turned out mostly looking like circles or pentagons! but your video helped produce my first ever successfully SQUARE granny square, and i thank you, wonderful teacher :) Post some more!

  • Congratulations on making a granny square successfully. Thank you for watching. I have about 60 crochet videos up right now.
