So, why would the fixative need to be workable? It's getting cased in goo anyway, right? Does the workable fixative perhaps have more tooth/grain for the matte to adhere to, than regular fixative?
Hi, Gabe: if the pencil smudges under the matte medium, give it a spray of Krylon workable fixative first. I use a 2B and HB graphite pencil for most of the drawing.
Toby, yes, it has a more matte surface, so the adhesion is better.

If the pencil tends to smudge with the matte medium, you can spray first with Krylon workable fixative. The pencil is mostly HB and 2B.
And yes, the bird gets all the credit!

Does the matte medium ever smudge the pencil drawing underneath? What number pencil do you use? (As in, what hardness/softness is the pencil)
