Those are not alligator gar. They are "longnose" or "needlenose" gar.

Gar taste awesome! I was always taught they were trash fish growing up, but last year I bit the bullet and tried some. The meat doesn't even taste like fish and has a tougher consistency. You can put pieces on the pit and they won't fall apart when you turn them....A thing I did learn about gar....do not freeze the meat in water, or store it in water. It soaks the water up and tastes like crap. Happy castnetting. LOL

They have 2 long straps of meet on their back. But if you cut them like a normal fish they are terribly bony.

Those are not gator gar they are either spotted or longnose gar, good catch anyway!

Gator gar have Shorter, broader, snouts and are more aggresive
