What wonderful memories. I especially can relate to all of this since I went to the H.S. that is pictured in the opening credits. That High School. was New Utrecht in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. from which I graduated in 1963. The subway train that you see passing was the old West End Line to Coney Island. Just such wonderful days of my life. RIP EPSTINE.
It pissed me off that high-school kids were always played by grownups. Even when ABC went back to Brooklyn with "Head of the Class" 10 years later, the kids still looked too old.
RIP EPSTEIN U WILL BE MISS. I USE 2 WATCH THIS SHOW ALL THE TIME. THEY NEED 2 BRING 2 BACK ON TV AND RUN ALL OF THE ONES THEY MADE FROM THE BEING 2 THE END AND HAVE A MEORIAL SREVCE FOR THE LOST OF EPSTEIN.
just watched this in my psychology and sociology class. The episode where he's first introduced to the students and tries to teach them a lesson by relating to them and we compared it to our current school system and how we treat our teachers.
In any case, damn fun show and glad I've seen a couple episodes since then :)
i discovered this show in the summer of 1995 on nick at nite. i was born in 82. i loved it so much. when i went back to school that fall to the 8th grade i pretended like me and my friends were the sweathogs. haha
Mr. Mark Levy, the 60-year old teacher who this show was based on, is currently my Earth Science teacher in a school in Long Island. How fucking awesome is that???
I have never been to Brooklyn. Is there anything left of Brooklyn that resembles the tight knit community and neighborhoods that I have seen and read about? Just wondering......
@ashland1977 In some places. There's still division wherever you go, but if you stay in your neighborhood long enough, you'll begin to know people and they will begin to know you.
It isn't always like some kind of hunky dory sitcom, but it's alright sometimes.
@ashland1977 Unfortunately, no. Brooklyn is gentrifying at a scary rate (more than any other borough). The Mayor of our city wants all NYC to be one homogenous pot of bland stew full of rich snobs & elitist outsiders. Bye-bye Working Class city, hello Gated Community. Sad.
70's what great televison. John Travolta. I thought he was mentally handicapped. Now look at him. Good actor, great villian. Travolta must have been gifted to appear so messed up. Welcome Back Kotter was one of many great comedies of the 70's. My kids loved those shows and so did I.
@jimamia77 yeah, from what i hear that organ works now. i went there from 78 - 83 and it wasn't working for those 4 years either. when you went there, was "chookies" still the place to get a burger and fries after school?
I don't know the series, but I looked it up in wikipedia to see its star, and it says it was Gabe Kaplan (who played Kotter). Now- is he in the credits? Because I couldn't find him.
@asalmog He's listed as a creator towards the end. Something in SAG rules about listing show production credits for on-screen talent, and he chose to be billed as a creator. Better royalties.
I am 23 and think this show is hilarious! Now a days every tv series is about some pretty boy, people screwing each other left and right, or someone shooting someone else...I wish I grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s
I might be missing something........... why would someone dislike a video of the beginning to a tv show the way it was originally aired? I mean, people can dislike anything they want for any reason, but what is it that they are disliking about this video?
@feegis the next generation hates on everything and every one. they dont even know why. they were not raised as us in our time. ifeel just like you do and am glad for your comment.
i agree this is when tv was tv not shit they have now.who wants to watch reality shows bring back the old sitcoms welcome back kotter chico and the man.starski and hutch etc etc.

i know what you mean i used to get off the school bus then change into my street clothes then i would go outside go play with my friends then go home to do my homework while mom was cooking and all them great shows were on tv while i was doing my home work wow those days were great welcome back kottor happy days the fonz aaaaaaaaa threes company all in the family the hulk the six milloin dallor man the brandy bunch alice one day at a time good times the love boat the football games playing atari

If I had space here, I could easily name off 15-20 great sitcoms that aired between 1970-80. I won't even mention the dramas, action, westerns, etc, shows. We don't have nearly as much great TV today, as we did back then. Yea, there are a few good shows on now, but not like then! I don't even know how they fit them all on prime time!
