  • RIP Epstein! You stood out on that show.

  • My favorite 70's show

  • "Mr. Kotter, I've got a note!" We'll miss you Robert, thanks for the memories.

  • What wonderful memories. I especially can relate to all of this since I went to the H.S. that is pictured in the opening credits. That High School. was New Utrecht in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. from which I graduated in 1963. The subway train that you see passing was the old West End Line to Coney Island. Just such wonderful days of my life. RIP EPSTINE.

  • RIP Esptein! Welcome Back Kotter is part of my childhood memories, what a treasure!

  • Travolta: 21 when the show started

    Hilton-Jacobs: 21

    Palillo: 23

    Hegyes: 24

It pissed me off that high-school kids were always played by grownups. Even when ABC went back to Brooklyn with "Head of the Class" 10 years later, the kids still looked too old.

  • @UncleMikeNJ WAAAAAAAHH, really? This is what bothers you in life?

  • RIP EPSTEIN U WILL BE MISS. I USE 2 WATCH THIS SHOW ALL THE TIME. THEY NEED 2 BRING 2 BACK ON TV AND RUN ALL OF THE ONES THEY MADE FROM THE BEING 2 THE END AND HAVE A MEORIAL SREVCE FOR THE LOST OF EPSTEIN.

  • RIP Epstein.

    I can't believe he was 60. I feel old.

  • The 80's. That's when crack hit. They cleaned it up in the early 90's. Giuliani....

  • The 70's was probably the worst decade for NYC...rats galore, trains covered in graffitti, just dirty in general.

  • I feel so fortunate to have been in grade school when shows like this were on the air.

    R.I.P. Epstein.

  • @WildBill6942

me to Bill, very magical time

  • my favorite theme song of alltime period

  • just watched this in my psychology and sociology class. The episode where he's first introduced to the students and tries to teach them a lesson by relating to them and we compared it to our current school system and how we treat our teachers.

In any case, damn fun show and glad I've seen a couple episodes since then :)

  • i discovered this show in the summer of 1995 on nick at nite. i was born in 82. i loved it so much. when i went back to school that fall to the 8th grade i pretended like me and my friends were the sweathogs. haha

    its over.

  • Boy, those good old 70's...the end of an American era.

  • @RAINBOWLIZY333 MMMMMMMMMMM I remember those days, vagly. I was 7 or 8

    The early 70z

the decade the world went broke! I was a kid then But i read about that era

  • YO WHO SLAM HARDER ONYX OR VINCE CARTER!

    CHKA-CHKA ONYX!

  • always happy!

  • scrubs sings it better :D

  • I remember thinking how Third World this place looked. But then again I raised in Victoria, British Columbia.

  • @fishhead06 Not third world, just urban, lol

  • a black man sang this theme song just like every sitcom period

  • @balotelli456 John Sebastian sang this song he was not black

  • @curtisjones400 oh yeah your right

  • I'm a teacher now, and I dream of going back...alas, I don't live anywhere near my childhood neighbourhood anymore.

  • this song brings back great memories :)))

  • The first 2 weeks of high school they played this song NONSTOP.

  • "Welcome ba-ack, the dreams were your... ticket out. Welcome ba-ack, to the same ol' place... that you laughed about.

The naaames have all chaaanged, since you hung around.

But those dreeeams have remaaained, then they turned around.

Who'd they thought they lead yaaa? [Repeat]

Back herrrre where we need yaaa? [Repeat]

Juuust tease 'im alot, 'cause we got 'im on the spot - Welcome Ba-ack [Repeat x6]" Gotta love the lyrics.

  • now all kotter does is play poker

  • Wish gangs were more like the Sweathogs.

  • Taken back by Welcome Back.

    Those were the days.

  • ashland 1977

not too many. Sad but true

  • I have never been to Brooklyn. Is there anything left of Brooklyn that resembles the tight knit community and neighborhoods that I have seen and read about? Just wondering......

  • @ashland1977 In some places. There's still division wherever you go, but if you stay in your neighborhood long enough, you'll begin to know people and they will begin to know you.

It isn't always like some kind of hunky dory sitcom, but it's alright sometimes.

  • @B0ULLIE Thanks for answering!

  • @Libraloco73 Bye-bye Coney Island Boardwalk. Heartbreaking.

  • @cha5 Where did the boardwalk go?

  • @screwdigitaldish It's being replaced with a concrete boardwalk :'-(

Completely ruining a national historic treasure.

  • wow i remember when utrecht had the dirt field with the track around it. it used to be opened to the public.

  • 70's what great televison. John Travolta. I thought he was mentally handicapped. Now look at him. Good actor, great villian. Travolta must have been gifted to appear so messed up. Welcome Back Kotter was one of many great comedies of the 70's. My kids loved those shows and so did I.

  • @torrents4u2c wish we had more shows like that today -this show was great

  • Hey Hey Mr. Khaa-taaay!!!

  • i wish they would put this back on Nick at Nite

  • cool

  • 36 people didn't have a note

  • please excuse gabey from teaching class this year so he can start his poker career; signed, epstein's mother.

  • Ah,Welcome Back Kotter! The show that made John Travolta a superstar although he was not first-billed in the opening credits.

  • New Utrecht High!! I had 2 take that gritty old train 2 that place every day. It had a church organ in the auditorium but it didn't work.

  • @jimamia77 yeah, from what i hear that organ works now. i went there from 78 - 83 and it wasn't working for those 4 years either. when you went there, was "chookies" still the place to get a burger and fries after school?

  • i miss this show sooooo muchhhhhh : /

  • signed, "epstein's mother".

  • 35 people got rivered while Mr Kotter was announcer

  • i was around 6 or 7 when this was around lol...im 39 now gee.

  • I wasn't even born when this came out, I still like the song! :D

  • this song takes me right back to when I was a little kid

  • Is it me, or does it sound like John Travolta is singing the theme to this?

  • @MichaelBrookham John Sebastian

  • @MichaelBrookham It actually sounds more like Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs..."Washington".

  • up your nose with a rubber hose:]

  • This is some funny shitt ! I loveee itt wish I was alive during these times =)

  • I loved this show as a kid!!!!!!!!

  • these guys were supposed 2 be freshman in 74,75. same as me, realy touches the heart of those days....

  • I don't know the series, but I looked it up in wikipedia to see its star, and it says it was Gabe Kaplan (who played Kotter). Now- is he in the credits? Because I couldn't find him.

  • @asalmog He's listed as a creator towards the end. Something in SAG rules about listing show production credits for on-screen talent, and he chose to be billed as a creator. Better royalties.

  • I am 23 and think this show is hilarious! Now a days every tv series is about some pretty boy, people screwing each other left and right, or someone shooting someone else...I wish I grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s

  • i grew up watching this is my favourite tv show

  • I might be missing something........... why would someone dislike a video of the beginning to a tv show the way it was originally aired? I mean, people can dislike anything they want for any reason, but what is it that they are disliking about this video?

  • @feegis the next generation hates on everything and every one. they dont even know why. they were not raised as us in our time. ifeel just like you do and am glad for your comment.

  • i agree this is when tv was tv not shit they have now.who wants to watch reality shows bring back the old sitcoms welcome back kotter chico and the man.starski and hutch etc etc.

  • I'm getting the PS3 Welcome Back offer so...

  • @CrimsonPhoenixBen well played

  • my old neck of the woods. been upstate for 30 yrs now.

  • @ElephantDrunk mine too...20th and 86th :-)

  • This song reminds me of my afterschool tv time while mom made dinner and I did my homework. I remember the line up...Giligan's Island, Welcome Back Kotter, Happy Days, Lavern and Shirley, 3's company. Then go to bed...LOL

  • i know what you mean i used to get off the school bus then change into my street clothes then i would go outside go play with my friends then go home to do my homework while mom was cooking and all them great shows were on tv while i was doing my home work wow those days were great welcome back kottor happy days the fonz aaaaaaaaa threes company all in the family the hulk the six milloin dallor man the brandy bunch alice one day at a time good times the love boat the football games playing atari

  • @PEANUTLOVEDADY those were the happy family times...the 80s!!! i did the same thing!!! i lived in the bronx

  • @80z90zhouzemuzicgrl Yes they were. There are barely, if any TV shows out today, that an entire family can enjoy together.

  • You childhood was so similar to mine that it's spooky. Mmmm Atari! (& the Hulk!) IMO the 70's were the "Golden Age" of TV Sitcoms. If I had space here, I could easily name off 15-20 great sitcoms that aired between 1970-80. I won't even mention the dramas, action, westerns, etc, shows. We don't have nearly as much great TV today, as we did back then. Yea, there are a few good shows on now, but not like then! I don't even know how they fit them all on prime time! (+, no 24/7 TV back then)

  • Love it, all good memories

  • When nick at nite had variety. Now they play the same 3 shows over and over. I remember there was something different on every hour.

  • Is this the best intro to a show ever?

  • @escdelesp and the greatest american hero had a great one too

  • @PEANUTLOVEDADY NOw that I think about it, I started watching these two shows because of the intro's

  • this should be the start-up for ps3 on the 31st

  • @Timmy123412 It is showing the great New Utrecht HS. Mine and Kaplans Alma Mater.......

  • John Sebastian and The Loving Spoonful.... daydreaming. Going back there...

  • John Sebastian wrote and sang this theme.

  • I read somewhere that the guy who played Kotter and the woman who

played his wife really hated each other on the show.

  • @JSTONE9352 both jews!

  • we sure had some great tv shows when i was a kid.

  • this show was filmed in my neighboorhood bensonhurs (:

  • wellcome back scott magro we miss you ok

  • Kotter likes to play High-Stakes Poker now!!!!

  • I was in high school in the mid 90s and Kotter became popular again when reruns were aired on some channels. I loved the show and everyone at school was using the catchphrases even though we weren't even born when the show started. Great shows never go out of style.

  • I hooked up with a girl at a party when she referenced Welcome Back and I was the only one who knew what she was talking about, and could name all the sweathogs for her.

    Youth wasted? NOT QUITE!

  • @heaventree na thats not the J train, this was the B west end line. J trains never operated on R32 railcars.

  • @1whomee1 I remember the same thing.

  • ahh man i can remember being like 6-7 y/o and not going to school and watching this on ch.5 in the afternoons sandwiched between bewitchd' and wkrp back in the day.trippy.

  • I just watched a vid of this crew re-united. They definitely look older. They asked them "Whats the one thing you guys did on this show you couldn't have done on any other"? I think it was Epstein who said "pay our rent regularly"

  • Nice.. Great show..70s were awesome, this one & Alice & Good Times just a few greats to mention..

  • Aah the good ol' days

  • Freddie BOOMBOOM Washington. *lol that name is Gold!

  • ★★★★★

    Best show ever!

  • 29 people never were welcomed back

  • @TheRichieCShow LOL : )

  • @TheRichieCShow LOL a buch of hard workers

  • the building at 31seconds is my old block Bay 22nd street in bensonhurst brooklyn

  • 0:48 video: opening theme of "Welcome Back, Kotter," an American television sitcom that originally aired on the ABC network from September 9, 1975, to June 8, 1979; starred comedian Gabe Kaplan as the title character Gabe Kotter.

March 31, 1945: birth of Gabe Kaplan, American actor and comedian.

  • who sings this song

  • @JDoxx96 John Sebastian of "The Lovin Spoonful". They had '60s hits like "You didn't have to be so nice." and "Darling be home soon." But I think the relatively obscure "She's still a mystery to me." was their best record.

  • i want to buy the 1st season of this show . is it worth it ?
