As I understand the events, it was Al Gore who got the courts involved, until ultimately the US Supreme Court stopped the recount after 3 long weeks of not knowing who was president-elect, at the time when the count was ordered stopped, Bush had more votes and therefore became President-elect of the USA by carryinng Florida's 25 electorial college votes.
By-the-way, I voted for Gore/Liebermann in 2000, and I am in Palm Beach, FL, the epicenter of that debacle.
As to address your question directly, concerning an argument in favor of Fox News without getting the other channels involved, FNC is full of classy, appealing and interesting shows, I think the O'Reilly Factor is a good show for instance.

I don't think that the White House is trying to bring down Fox News ratings, I think they are just trying to influence the way people percieve fox news; that is, they understand that people are still going to watch Fox News, but they want people to be conscious of the fact that this is opinion news while they are watching it. They want people to understand that every piece of "news" offered by Fox has spin on it.

Then Person A invites Persons B and C (lets call them Olbermann and Maddow) to a private "briefing" at the White House. One can only assume it's to discuss how to best use their journalistic skills in support of Obama.
Hmmm ... Person A (Obama) invited Person B and C but also invited person D and and E (conservative media, did you forget the interview with the conservative radio talk ... short memory I see).
Person M (Bush) only invited person N and P (Bush and Limbaugh) to the WH never invited B and C and never accepted interviews from person R (the New York Times) for 8 years. He also spied person R, S, T, U, V (journalists) ... (not Fox) for 8 years and person F (Fox), totally ignored that.
In the above video they are discussing Fox News, are they not? If you would like to discuss MSNBC, I'm not the person to talk to. MSNBC is not offered on basic cable where i live. Therefore, I ONLY have access to there opinion shows via internet. I can't comment on there news...

While it is debatable if John Ellis (Bush's cousin, but not a particularly close one) intentionally threw the election in Bush's favor or not, the fact is that Gore actually did carry enough votes to win Florida, and FOX, a conservative media outlet, called the election before the ballots were counted in favor of the GOP. Does that sound like the work of a legitimate news station to you? Fair and balanced?
Try to make an argument in Fox's favor without bringing up the other shitty news stations

I am from Florida and a lawyer. As I understand the events, it was Al Gore who got the courts involved, until ultimately the US Supreme Court stopped the recount after 3 long weeks of not knowing who was president-elect, at the time when the count was ordered stopped, Bush had more votes and therefore became President-elect of the USA by carryinng Florida's 25 electorial college votes.
By-the-way, I voted for Gore/Liebermann in 2000, and I am in Palm Beach, FL, the epicenter of that debacle.

As to address your question directly, concerning an argument in favor of Fox News without getting the other channels involved, FNC is full of classy, appealing and interesting shows, I think the O'Reilly Factor is a good show for instance.
However, the real appeal of FNC is the alienation felt by tens of millions of decent Americans who are systematically disenfranchised by the mainstream media, entertainment industry, education system and so on which caricature conservatives into oblivion.

Or it could be that he enter office during the start of one of the worst economic disasters this country has ever faced and he, as all presidents do, is getting far too much of the blame for it. Bush F'ed the country so badly that their is nothing that any president could do to make the country better in such a short time. I am not saying Obama is great, but I am willing (not that anyone has a choice), to give him a few years before passing judgment on how effective he is/was as a president.

Remember when MSNBC was bashing the town halls, and one of the Anchors claimed there was a gun toting white guy standing standing in the crowd. Watch the same clip on FOX and it was some black dude. MSNBC purposely filmed the guy so that you could not see his skin color and imply racism. Yes, there is opinion on the channels, but if you dispute O'Reilly, Beck or Hannity e-mail them, they may post your comment.

Bush gave interviews with FOX and not with MSNBC, and openly complained about MSNBC... So? It is politics as always. I have to comment on this. I tend to watch Fox, more than the others, but I do watch all of them. One thing I see Fox do is they ask to be corrected if they report any piece incorrectly. MSNBC - is wildly incorrect, I have never seen any attempts by them to go back and get it right.

I don't think that the White House is trying to bring down Fox News ratings, I think they are just trying to influence the way people percieve fox news; that is, they understand that people are still going to watch Fox News, but they want people to be conscious of the fact that this is opinion news while they are watching it. They want people to understand that every piece of "news" offered by Fox has spin on it.

All news reporting can be perceived as spun. On the other hand, simply not reporting news is the ultimate spin.
At least with Fox, you get news you will not see or hear on other networks.
And given the freedom the American people still have to switch channels, the fact of Fox's rapid growth-- including Democrats as viewers-- is testament to the newsworthiness and quality of their reporting.

That's not necesarily true. I'm a Democrat and I watch Fox News. Why? Because i think it is VERY entertaining. The debates are over the top and commentators personalities are just plain funny. I watch Fox News for the same reason in search of the same cheap thrills i get from watching reality TV. That being said, I certainly do NOT take there news seriously. I understand that it is entertainment television and that the full extent and goal of their broadcast is only entertainment.
