@GourmetGoblinz EMB has been completely remodeled for over 10 years now... The gonz gap and old EMB can only be relived in videos I'm afraid. They skatebocked the shit out of the new EMB as well as Peir 7... Not sure about hubba, but they prolly wrecked that too.
I remember skating old EMB, so fuckin loud over those bricks. Looked at the Gonz gap a couple times, pretty much said "fuck that". Good shit, thanks for posting.
dude this was the good old days man real skating no nerdflips no El Toro or wallenberg just EMB the hubba hideout and stuff man studie up on these guys CHICO , GUY , MIKE CARROL , RICK HOWARD AND THE GONZ all guys that never faded out man still skating after all the EMB peeps faded studie up on Steve R
so pretty much your saying that chris cole and eric koston and berra and the whole lot of pros are faded. you study up. dude skating is at its peak right now.
dude skating is sick right now yes Chris Cole and Koston are my 2 all time fav skaters. The Berrics are sick. I'm not saying nerdflips and el toro aren't cool I'm just saying that It wasn't like a Job then it was just chillin with friends and having fun on a skatboard. Skateboarding now is way different then it used to be. Its fun learning about skate history its very interesting.
I was living in Redwood Shores at the time, about age 13. It was kind of scary going to the big bad city to visit EMB so we didn't go to often. I remember visiting two shops in SF, FTC and Skates on Hate.
Back then Oracle had not yet moved to Redwood Shores but there were many business parks with similar setups, we referred to it as Mini EMB.
yup...I lived in Belmont (Carlmont 90 to 94)..I remember skating mini Emb..w/ the sharp angled concrete 'handrails'. Dewd, In 1989 there used to be a 8' wide 4' tall mini half pipe that some kids built out on 'the mud' where the landfill met the water..no lie, and what about 'Gazebo'..round wooden thing by the bride w/ banks like china banks!!!
hah thats what it seems like from some of this footage but no they were not the main trick back then. this was around the time they started really reinventing skateboarding and creating all the crazy flip tricks we see and do today.some skaters did flip tricks in the 80s but the early 90s is when everything started really developing
For years, the world famous San Francisco skate spot Embarcadero has been wrongly referred to as "EMB." In fact, EMB is the acronym for the locals that skated there. EMB stands for "Embarco's Most Blunted." Confuse the two again, and you're getting a 'bow to the head.
'oh alright then'...is that about the same time you propose to put up some og footage of all the Palo Alto skaters as well?..we'll be waiting a long time then mr. rosenberg.
Oh, and just so you know, kids: b/s 180 heelflips and f/s 180 kickflips weren't really being done until probably 2 or 3 years after this was filmed. Mike Carroll was owning it. Look at those Airwalk shoes. They're huge!
I completely agree with those of you who are saying that the best time to be skating was ca. 89-92. Hokus Pokus and The Questionable Video bookended this period when skating was really underground, but kids like Mike Carroll. Jovantae and Henry Sanchez were totally pushing the envelope.
Question: you have any footy of Ronnie Bertino? That guy was so good.
cool. which video game did you skate it in? i have fond memories of skating it in thrasher:skate and destroy but the new game EA skate has the old EMB in it too. how cool is that? so, what did you session at today's EMB? flat ground?
emb used to be a hang out place for skaters and people. there was a lot of fights and blackouts so they got tired and changed emb to stop skateboarders come hang out there and the crime reduced fast. if it wasn't for crime, emb would be still there..
no because some fucktard security gaurd fucking called the cops while people were there so he comes back every once in a while and calls the cops.. but people still skate there
the early 90's were the best times for skateboarding in my opinon, the style, just the feeling in that time, now i think its alot different, long live EMB!
I think you are right on. There was virtually no money in skating at that time, however skating was in the midst of pure innovations. More tricks were created in the early 90s than any other time in skating. A big part of it was the revolution in board design. When I watched that Virtual Reality opening again, it stood out today, 15 years later as a great opening, even by today's standards and that says a lot.
is emb still there?
