True, we can be harmed by a lot of things that modern science has brought us.

But this was understood to some degree, as UV tubes were used to kill bacteria so it was known that this would damage and kill living cells.

however the overall benefit of the electron tube is clearly far greater than any negative effects.

The Transistor is but the progress that man has made in harnessing the power that is the electron.
