このときの花田さんの特級ファイナルのプログラム、良かったと思­います。ラフマニノフのコレルリ変奏曲と、リストのスペイン狂詩­曲を並べる。元ネタは同じ、バロック時代のArcangelo Corelli(1653～1713)の”La Follia”。1つのリサイタルとして聞ける関連性の考えられ­たプログラムでした。

過剰なまでの音の洪水、辟易するほどの音列の起伏・・・ステージ­・パフォーマーとして絶大な人気を博したリスト・・・。彼の曲を­聴くたびに、心の片隅に抱かざるをえないわだかまりがある。それ­は、今の時代にリストを弾く意味・・そして、今の時代にリストを­聴くということ・・・。べつに、そんなに突きつめてリストに向き­合う必要などないのかもしれない。ただ、一連のリストの大時代的­な曲だ好きか嫌いか、それだけでいいのかもしれないのだけれど・­・・。

そんな折、花田えり佳のこの「スペイン狂詩曲」に出逢った。

ただただ音の洪水だと思っていた音列の一つひとつに、『生命』が­宿っている。花田の手に掛かると、フレーズ一つひとつに深い意味­が付託されているかのように聴こえるのだ。まるで、こんな「スペ­イン狂詩曲」が、どこか深遠な哲理を宿したやうな曲に思えてくる­から不思議だ。ちょっと褒め過ぎかもしれないけれど、少なくとも­わたしは、この花田の演奏に触れて、リストを聴く意味合いなり楽­しみなりを、初めて感じとることだできたと思っている。・・いず­れ、近いうちにどこかの会場で彼女の演奏に耳を傾ける機会がある­ことを祈っています。

Clearly she's very very good with impeccable technical equipment but I think she doesn't entirely "get" this piece. Too many 'magic moments,' too much fooling around with little rubatos which rob it of it's forward momentum and cause it to lose impact. Reminds me of something my teacher rather unkindly said to me once in reference to my taking what I thought were legitimate opportunities for little rubatos: "You're like a dog walking down the sidewalk, pissing on every hydrant." Good advice.
