I remember that when I was in Ireland a band refused to play this for a American tour group for elderly persons. I, not knowing what the Irish National anthem sounded like, went back to my hotel and listened to it immediately . I cry every time I hear it.
"The Basques can trace their history back to the people that created Egypt and to Atlantis more than 10,000 years ago, back to a culture that gave us civilisation. England etc should have a Basque Queen- a rightful heir"
"A massive amount of historic recognition and appreciation has been shamefully covered up towards the Basques(original europeans n origin of the white race)"

Congratulations for your big victory against Estonia in the relegation match today!!! Awesome. No other country deserves this victory more than Ireland after your stolen world cup in 2010!!! Ireland is a beautiful country with such amazing landscpaes and coasts and very sympathic and charming people. Of course in the last times you have had a lot of problems but i´m sure you will conquer them. We are proud to call you our friends. Best wishes for the future from your friends in Germany
They never taught me this in school... Have had to hum along to my Nation anthem for Years and years. Never bothered to try till lately. What was I thinking.
@2010wester I agree! What is up with us Northerners not learning it? :S
I began learning it a few months back when I realised I knew more of "God Save the Queen" than it, and now know it by heart! (I knew it after about a few days of listening to it a lot) :D Just stick it onto your iPod/phone etc. and listen to it whenever you can and you'll know it in no time.
@liamobrien06 the reson it serves no purpose is cuz the britz killed it and maybe ud like to learn it cuz it part of ur culture and maybe if evryone no it it would serve a purpose
In the next 4 years the people of Scotland will vote in a referendum to decide if they want to be an independent country, free from the United Kingdom. Please show your support for my countries INDEPENDENCE by giving this comment a thumbs up.
What a beautiful language. If I listen a couple of times I can sing along. Can anyone tell me what the translation is of what he says at 1:30? And could someone give a approximation of how to pronounce "Gaeilge" ? I would appreciate it. Thanks
@roybuckleytv Thanks for writing it out for me. I appreciate it. I can say it along with him, but I don't know what it means. Could you tell me that. I'd be grateful. Thanks.
I have checked out several YouTube videos of this song today, looking for a really good one, and this one was the best by far. Turns out a good YouTube recording of this is hard to find. Thank you!
its not just Ireland- its true of many countries- native languages are dissapearing. its sad, but its not the English's fault in this case or any other country's- its up to the people to keep their own culture alive its not like the Enlgish are forcing the Irish to speak English only
@blackpen2011 I was curious as an answer to that question as well ??? I thought much of the time England was " ruling " the Irish that they were trying the same thing on the other side of the channel as well ???
@dubobify If we called every language by it's own word for it's name, then Japanese should only be called Nihongo, Finnish: Soumi, Dutch: Nederlands, German: Deutsch, Spanish: Espanol, French: Francais, Italian: Italiano, etc.
Yes, Gaelic is an English word. So if you're speaking English then you should be able to use the english word for it! If you're speaking Gaelic, then it should be appropriate to use "Gaeilge." That's how ALL languages work.
@hereisanelf Since when? There's also Manx Gaelic, so why not Irish Gaelic as well? They're all different forms of Gaelic, like Scots and Jamaican Patois are of english. I really don't understand what's so sinful about the word. You guys seem to be almost repelled by it.
"Gaelic" = language of the Gaels. "Gaels" = The dominant Celtic ethnicity of Ireland and their diaspora (such as in Isle of Man and Scotland).
@evilmick66 See, here's the problem. They aren't "patois" of a language, just as English isn't a "patois" of German, or French isn't a "patois" of Latin. They are separate languages, with separate names, that stem from a common root language. Therefore, it's Irish, not Irish Gaelic, just as it's Spanish, not Spanish Latin. The blanket statement "Gaelic" stopped being applicable in the 16th century, which is the supposed date for the breach between the Scottish and Irish languages.
Ok now its an independant country, and still less and less people are interested in it,especially young ones. The point is everyone is proud to be irish but not everyone wants to learn about the heritage and make this language popular again.sad but true
I just cannot understand why those pro english gits say gaelic is "outdated" as languages(there are actually several) How can languages as beautiful as the gaelic ones EVER be anything than beautiful
I think the only gaelic I´ve heard have been welsh but I have heard others as well wich I was uncertain of!
Gaelic should be mandatory in schools in ALL "Celtic nations"
It´s their REAL lanuage and if they let it die then their former opressors England and France wins(Both these nations exercized both physical as well as linguistic opression over their celtic/gaelic subjects for centuries)!
@TheShadowwolf88 Gaelic refers to Irish, Manx, and Scottish Gaelic only. Welsh, Cornish, and Breton are not Gaelic languages, they're Brythonic Languages, Gaelic are Goidelic Languages. They are both Branches of Proto-Celtic, but they are different, and are not really related. Why would Gaelic be mandatory in Wales, where Welsh is spoken not Irish/Scottish Gaelic?
Actually here in Glasgow Gaelic was only the native language for about 300 years, that's even less than Scots. Considering Glasgow is Scotland's biggest city housing over half the population, it's a bit of a strange idea to call Gaelic our national language.
Here are the words in english, in hopes that we can stay in tune with our irish roots and be proud to be called irishmen Soldiers are we, whose lives are pledged to Ireland Some have come from a land beyond the wave, Sworn to be free, no more our ancient sireland Shall shelter the despot or the slave; tonight we man the Bearna Baoghal In Erin's cause. come woe or weal; Mid cannon's roar and rifle's peal We'll sing the soldier's song.
My family is of Irish descent but Gaelic was lost a long time ago in my family. But I think this video is definantly starting to help me learn the words to the national anthem! Would be great if I can learn it 100% because when I watch football at the pub and its Ireland playing the Irish guys there know it in Gaelic, I only know English :\
Me nd my friends added an ending to that.. we go " Seo libh canaig Amhrán na bhFiann.. G'won the town" Portlaoise best town in Irish evea!!!!!!!!

Thanks!!!!
