  • @John081590 I have the score here if you're still interested :) The piano was prepared with 32 bolts (of varying types and sizes), 7 pieces of rubber and 23 screws. It was pretty extensively prepared haha.

  • This is amazing. A wonderful interpretation and performance of this great piece :)

  • What did they placed on the piano to alter the sound? The sound reminds me a bit of a Malaysian and Philippine instrument used and arranged like a xylophone.

This is an interesting piece by the way. In which genre of music is it categorized in?

  • Nice you like it! I dont have the score of this here, but usually Cage put screws, bolts, rubber and sometimes wood between the strings of the piano. I guess the sound you mean is that of Javanese or Balinese Gamelan music theres something on Youtube. I dont know if theres a specific genre for this music, new, contemporary or experimental music maybe.

  • Yes! That's the term. Gamelan music. Several Indegenous Philippine tribes use them to. Interesting sound...

  • Thank you for posting this. I only know the version by Margaret Leng Tan so it is great to hear another interpretation. It is excellent.
