In the last episode of series 1, Tony was in an accident--a bus hit him. And then afterwards, he was in a sorta coma. And then coming out of it, he needed some therapy to help him recover from it. So the Tony that you're seeing now, has been through a LOT. And the rest of series 2, you get to see Tony get to be Tony again. Though it's kinda a slow process. Just like in real life.
