  • She just looks so powerful in this....even when she's down on her knees (do NOT go there, perverts!) in what appears to be frustration, despair and anger.

  • Yes!!!! I so love this movie, scene and song!!! Bette Midler Rocks!!!

  • i LOVE this song! and performance. ur such a diva bette!

  • I really think it would be better if it was not a musical, but only a drama... I love it though

  • brilliant

  • LOL! Ya this is a GREAT song by Bette. Check out the rendition we did of this masterpiece by clicking on my username. Leave a comment and tell us what you think!!!

  • you know, does anyone know what this song is about?

  • @fatalmayu I always assumed it was about the dehumanization of the workforce. ?

  • I love this, she is a great actress, love the tune to

  • aweeessommmmmmmmmmee

  • I absoloutly LOVE this par of the film Bette's voice is one of a kind xD

  • They were both jealous of each other. CC wanted Hilary's beauty... Hilary wanted CC's guts and success.

  • This is one of the best movies I have seen. I ALWAYS cry during this movie. That's when you know they've done their job.

  • I love what the background people are doing after she goes "OF MEEEEEEEeeeeee!"

  • I think it's about how since the war is ending, then there will be no more use of the "lord of the manor" because they won't need him to make weapons anymore. So he asks industry what will happen to him now that the war is over. So i guess it's ironic that we are meant to feel sympathy for someone who has helped in causing destruction.

  • a very apt description of the song

  • I ABSOLELUTLY LOVEED this movie!! it shows that friends has their bad and goods but in the end their always there for eachother.

  • @clooneygirl07 i agree! i love this movie, i used to sing this a home

  • Those masks gave me nightmares!

  • Yeah!! Me too lolol

  • Guess i'll add my opinion since I disagree with the people who've poken up so far. I think this song is about the continued industrialization of the world and how it is replacing humanity.

  • I actually pulled the song using some fancy smancy program...but thank you anyway! My cabaret troupe is performing this routine on saturday...fingers crossed.

  • if you taped it i would love to see it.

  • idkk why but when my best frend died in november died i listened to this song over...i think its cause i was to lazy and down to change the song! but anyways so when ever i hear 0:40 it gives me chills like u wouldnt believe

  • does anyone know where to find this shorter version of this song..the movie version? I can only find the original..

  • add my AIM and ill send it too its nickolasxd

  • Hillary and John should've got married!

  • I L0vE thiiiis s0ng, but what exactly d0es it signify?

  • I've always been puzzled by the meaning. Seems it would be about stardom and losing your identity (she's wearing the mask at the end) but I also think it has something to do with WWI, the "yellow winds" being mustard gas and the "hydrogen fuel burns so clean" perhaps referring to the zeppelins. She mentions this "glorious war" coming to an end...so something to do with the time between WWI and WWII maybe? Either way, I've always loved this scene and its elusive meaning!

  • very perceptive. i love this scene and totally agree with you.

  • I agree about it being about stardom. I think that is what it is about. It would make sense, especially at this point in the film.

    I love this song.

  • its talking about war in general and the industrialization of our society

  • this shit me up years ago

  • i watch this over and over.

  • those of you too young to know bette's acting career should see "the rose". along with "beaches" it's her finest work (and there is a lot more where that came from!).

  • Is this on the soundtrack..........

  • yes it is

  • my favorite actress and singer along with diane keaton and goldie hawn. they are classic actresses with pure talent.

  • Love you, Bette Midler...*hug*

  • bette miller is such a great singer and actress, this is my favorite part of the movie, i rewind it over and over again just to see this great artist singing such an outstanding song...

  • this is amazing. bette rocks.

  • art and drama at its best!

  • ok this is the most freakin amazing/random thing ive ever seen in my life. shes soo hott.

  • @sexpot06 Same here. =)

  • This song has been stuck in my head for weeks. Love it.

  • Love this but the sound is way tooo loud!

  • No fight scene?, that was the best!

  • To me this part is by far one of the best parts of the movie. I kinda wish we could have seen if this part had a whole musical to it. I know I would have gone to it. Bette Midler sure know how to carry her self and what she sings.

  • I LOVE this!!

I agree, it's the best part of the movie

  • Thanks for posting, great movie!

  • gpd this is my favorite part

i wish this was a movie

    it would be really good

  • i looove this freaking song!!!

  • how amazing is this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • grande bette midler!!!!

  • w00t!! love this part of the film

kinda raw sounds and love the walk/lean back towards the end

  • I really enjoy this song. This is so cool. Bette Midler is such a good singer.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS SONG!!! I have the soundtrack but dont' like that the recording is different. I have been known to rewind this particular scene up to 15 times and love to just watch it over and over! YOU'RE THE BEST!

  • plus i think she is singing in chest voice here and a lot of the songs in the movie require head voice

  • thats a lot of voice then

  • I absolutely love this part!! The reason it sounds different than the album is that Bette likes to do all vocals live for film. If you have the Gypsy recording and film, the vocals don't match either. :)

  • one of favorite scenes. her voice sounds different than the movie and soundtrack. why?

  • beaches! i love this film

  • thank u!!!!!
