I had one just like it back in the late 60s except my fenders were pained silver with the red/orange stripe. I traveled all over North America on it for a year, just drifting around not knowing where I would be at the end of the day. It was the best time of my life. I wish i still had that bike. The only problem was the 1968 was prone to oil leaking from the pushrod tubes. Special O-rings were made to help fix it but mine always started leaking againg.

@atreewithnolife It was the best time of my life. Ii had so many adventures. Among them was that I was almost literally camped on the property where the Manson murders took place the very night that they happened. I probably could have heard the screams if I was awake but I was sound asleep next to my Bonneville. I keep promising myself that I'm going to document what happened that year for my kids and grandkids to read. It was a wild time during the hippy days.

@ZoneIII The only part of the trip I didn't like was in the deep south. A year after I got back, the movie Easy Rider came out and it showed pretty much how it really was in the deep south back then.
