I love apple stuff but not everybody is millionaires. iPods and iPhones are good priced. But their laptops? $999?? What?! Take it down a couple hundred.
@Treblaine Always when i make a comment like that, they start comparing the ipad with a netbook an not a ipad with the ipod touch (what i was comparing) stupid pig
@Treblaine Yes, it costs as much as a netbook, its NOT as portable as a netbook, the iPad is lighter and easier to take with you so do not compare it with a netbook.
It isnt that weak as an ipod touch because the ipad has the new A4 chip and the iPad is much and much faster, search on youtube : 'iPod touch vs iPad speed tests'
So pay more, get a nicer, lighter product.
Apple is making nice and good products and they work perfect, its worth the money.
@Griggzz "nicer"?!??! It's "nicer" to run only a single Apple-Approved application at a time?
iPad's plan is as big as a netbook - beyond "pocket size" category - and not significantly thinner or lighter it's still too heavy to comfortably hold elevated for longer than a minute, only resting on something: in which case you're better off with a notebook style (ideally angled screen + keyboard on firm surface).
(iPad is marginally faster than iPod Touch but SO WEAK compared to any netbook)
@Treblaine If you get the iPad case, what i have, you can get the iPad in a great angel, great to type, and in November is coming an update: multitasking so shut up.
And now I will compare something too, the supahhwoopahh computer of the astronauts is faster then a normal pc, so shut tha fake up! Compare the touch with the iPad, see what's better and then stfu
@Griggzz "a great angel" as in heavenly being? I think you mean ANGLE! What a moron, but typical for Apple defenders.
Apple withholds features, you LOWER your standards to meet them, then when they bring back half of them in a half-baked way you act like its some fucking revolution. No, you're Steve Jobs' bitch, you pant and bay for scraps.
@Treblaine Btw, you know what I mean, and I know that you know that the iPad is awesome but you can't pay it, so you dint like it. But, keep discussing, it's fun, cuz I like typing on my iPad :D
@Griggzz Well I'm TOUCH TYPING on my laptop, something impossible on iPad and I don't have to be bent double to view the screen and type at the same time.
I'm also running Spotify streamign music, Openoffice, BBC iplayer, Steam client and Firefox with 20 tabs AT THE SAME TIME... on a device half the price of an iPad.
Its Fancy touch interface... that's not worth $500 to $600 especially with a fraction of the capability. It should be priced about $200 to $300.
@Treblaine Ipad: easy to take everywhere, multitasking is coming with the update in November, I didn't say touch typing was awesome, but typing on the iPad is awesome.
@kellhiro they are cheering because they still are under the deluded impression that the iPad is a MacBook in Tablet form... a full PC (yes, even Mac is a type of PC) just lacking an optical drive like netbooks.
It took a while for people to realise it has the EXACT SAME CHIPSET AND MOTHERBOARD as the ipod touch! The same, overclocked, plus a gigantic battery
You want to know why they chose the odd 4:3 aspect ratio?
Because they are cheap bastards and there are already well established manufacturing plants for 10-inch 1024x768 screens, no custom builds, they can use dirt-cheap off the shelf components sold at platinum premium price with the fucking Apple Logo.
@devotrippin I was thinking you'd defend Apple no matter what they do. Well I suppose if they are going to be accused of such crimes against consumers they have a right to an attorney in the court of public opinion. Even if their position is indefensible.
I personally use 16:9 & 16:10 in portrait very frequently on pivoting monitors and it's perfect.
16:10 (1.6:1) would be ideal for movies and fit App's 3:2 (1.5:1) far better than 4:3 (1.33:1) also 720p could fit neatly into 1280x800 res.
@Treblaine crimes against consumers? That's a little overly-dramatic.
Not that you'd know, but I hold Apple accountable for stupid stuff they do just as frequently as I 'defend' (that's not the right word)...support them for what I feel to be useful or advantageous for me, for users. I think the biggest omission was the lack of HD, but that doesn't ruin anything for me.
@devotrippin Overly-dramatic? Next to Steve Jobs performance? I'm just trying to match the mood.
And iPad's lack of HD is ENTIRELY down to how it Literally Is just an iPod Touch with a bigger screen (and some overclocking). It can barely handle 1024x768.
IMHO, iPad is a deceptive and exploitative marketing gimmick that will make Apple incredibly rich at the cost of almost all their credibility.
Netbooks bet iPad to the punch by YEARS and far outmatch price, performance and services.
@Treblaine HEY! If you dont like the Ipad you dont have to get it! ok?
your really a loser you know. Trying to make people sad by telling them their ipad doesn't do crap.
I have an ipad and i am satisfied. How do you beat that? im a customer and i am satisfied! I definetely would rather read on an ipad more than a kindle. or, a 5 pound tablet.
@mixermake Hey, iPad has a LOT of potential, but you can't keep sucking up to Apple like it's some privilege to buy their stuff.
IF they are not criticised they will not sufficiently improve. I am very interested in getting an iPad but NOT this generation, it is too expensive for too little capability, and Apple always fucks over First Adopters. IPad w/ 7-inch 16:9 screen, 64GB, at $300... that I'd buy. Even current iPad is just a 10-inch Personal-Media-Player so shouldn't cost laptop prices.
@Treblaine when you say this i picture a kid on the verge of crying trying to protect his new dell that just crashed and trying to take it out on apple, if you dont like it dont buy it, your not a windows sales person so dont try to defend anything, seriously you are really over dramatic "ambit......io....usssssssss.......tech...nic......al goa....ls" stutter much?
@mixermake you'd have to imagine it because you'd be VERY unlikely to see it. Keep dwelling in your Mac-fanboy delusions but you're embarrassing yourself to share them openly.
BTW; I don't use a Dell, I've built my own damn PC from individually bought components, for the maximum gaming performance for the minimum price. In fact for the price of a medium-spec iPad I have a PC that can max out every PC game, including Crysis.
@Treblaine uhhhh hu yup I dont have a crysis whenever i use my mac, unlike your pc, yup that new game called crysis has been out since the pc was invented, last time i checked it was sold with every pc and it sure does work well on your computer
LOL us macs, we just dont have that type of stuff. aww man i wish i had viruses like you.
@Treblaine so now its to the point of LIVING? wow your competative,
well last time i checked i didn't LIVE on my computer, apperently YOU live on your computer. I would live on my computer if i had a pc cus then i would have to keep on fixing it and it would take my whole life to get the darn thing working.
@mixermake Hmm, what's this? A devoted apple fan boy lecturing me about PC's? I know your type, you live the iLife, all Apple products... I bet you even have an Apple TV or wish you had one. Yet you claim to be knowledgeable on PC?
PAH! It's like a granny nagging a racing driver that he shouldn't use a manual gear box because "ooooh, stick is so easy to make mistakes, automatic much better".
Who wants such a dumbed down ATM-like interface? I want a REAL operating system!
@Treblaine wow you assume a lot! who does want a atm like interface? so dont get one! buy a mac! Saying that people who like mac dont know anything about PCs is like saying a teacher doesent know how it was like to be a student. We know everything about PCs and thats why we buy macs!
So you think Ipods suck? wow fail. I have yet to see someone make a touchscreen music player that is as responsive as the itouch. what do you have a zune? a plastic sony player?
@mixermake You could stop making assumptions, not everyone is as technically incompetent with computers as you nor need a child-friendly OS like Mac.
I Never said "ipod sucks". But just because ipod has a decent interface to function as an MP3 player that DOES NOT make it the perfect interface for all electronic devices.
The main problem with iPod is having to use the diabolically shitty iTunes, any other MP3 player is worth while just to avoiding needing that program.
@Treblaine again.... back to the stuttering child.... "I.....I....I did NOT ss...ssssay.....tthhhh...at !!!!"
Mac's operating system is definetely child friendly, i agree i dont have to see all those pop upps and i can go on websites without my security thing popping up all the time and its definetely less complicated. so yah i think when we are all grown up we should just us a PC cus then we wont cry every time our computer crashes and we lost all of our work.
@mixermake did I stutter? You're pathetic, you have to blatantly lie that I have a speech disability to prove your point?
Your point is an utter lie, Mac is NOT secure only OBSCURE that general infection viruses simply don't target them, Apple products are well known to be the easiest to hack into when they are targeted.
Mac isn't more stable, quite simply people like you are TOO INCOMPETENT to run a real OS. It's an utter lie to say Mac OS can never crash.
well i have had a dell desktop that cost 799.99 when i got it and a powerbook g4. The powerbook g4 is 9 years old, has never crashed, runs all the games i like it to, and trully, ive tried using a toshiba laptop for 9 years it died after 2! same with the dell desktop. No mac i have had has ever crashed. And personally i have had many bad experiences with vista and windows 7 and xp.
so what happens if your not gaming? your in a resturaunt, forgot your charger. 10hours of battery or 3
@mixermake If you are satisfied with the Mac's incredibly small number of games playable on Mac quite simply you are not a gamer or are arbitrarily lowering your expectations to what is available to you.
Yes, it's hard to crash a Mac like you can't stall an automatic... that doesn't mean Automatic gearbox is inferior. It means you're not good at operating your machinery.
You clearly simply don't understand Vista and bought from a laptop manufacturer with a poor reliability reputation.
People expected $999 when they thought it was going to be a Macbook Tablet... NOT JUST A FUCKING iPOD TOUCH WITH A BIG SCREEN!!
-
Literally that is EXACTLY what the iPad is, Digital Foundry prised one open and found the same small rectangular circuit-board as from the iPod-Touch. The CPU and GPU are IDENTICAL only overclocked.
The rest of the space was filled with a giant battery, that's the secret to the 10-hour life, 60-70% of internal volume is battery cells. Real "innovative".
@kolsasbakken 1000 new apps can never compensate for the MILLIONS of flash based websites that are DELIBERATELY denied to work on iPad due to Apple's Greed and Megalomania. See they get a HUGE cut of every app sold and CONTROL each one, they can even remove them from your own iPad come sync time.
It's is the worst walled garden of tech since AOL... no... it's WORSE than AOL!
@sawdustcoping20 considering the cheap Chinese labour, that probably is how much it actually costs in terms of labour and resources. Though the boss of the factory probably makes a huge mark up, in the end I'd be amazed if Apple paid more than $200 for each unit. And the extra cost for 3G and capacities over 16GB (32GB and 64GB) are pittance extra but Apple charges up to $850.
The price for making an iPad is about $259.60, if they sold this for $300-$350, i would have bought it, but with 500$ i can buy a mini laptop with multitasking and windows
WTF? Very ambitious technical goals? "Uh... yeah. Let's take an iPod touch, and..... make it bigger? Does that sound good? Okay guys, let's get to work!"
Are you telling me my 32G three years old ipod have more memory than the ipad and I should pay double price for it? is not better to buy a ipod touch?
@bjavierduke There will be no comparison between the experience on your iPod Touch vs. the massive screen of the iPad. It's really a different machine, and not just an enlargement of the iPod.
@devotrippin No it isn't. Read Digital Foundry's in depth analysis, it uses the same CPU only overclocked, and same GPU only overclocked, both by less than 50%.
They actually dismantled the iPad and found the small rectangular circuit board almost identical to the ones used in iPhones/iPod-touch series. It's literally JUST an iPod with bigger screen and larger battery.
Massive screen only serves to nullify any advantages of overclocked CPU/GPU making programs at full res slower to run.
did a little googling and didn't come up with much...Steve is known to use features from unreleased iWork apps in his keynote presentations, so if it's NOT available now, it will be in the next version
Have you guys bothered to think about this? Put the iPad in context!
First, the context of Apple products: Apple has NEVER BEFORE had a $499 machine of ANY variety, much less one with this much class, elegance, and power.
Second, the context of what's out there now: impoverished, stripped-down peecee's called netbooks that are underpowered and non-stop compromise.
The EEEPC is a £199 piece of crap, darkprinciples! Slap a touch screen on it and you've got a very nice, very touchable TURD.
well...i believe you but that was before we expected things like an imac to come of them...that was when something equal to this bad (in that era), was normal.
ffs, $499 for a device without 3G, and only 16gb of space. This guys having a fracking joke! The damn thing has crap specs, a low res screen, almost no storage.
Give me an EEE PC for £199 its still got more space and power! And I can slap on a touch screen pane if I wanna.
I love apple stuff but not everybody is millionaires. iPods and iPhones are good priced. But their laptops? $999?? What?! Take it down a couple hundred.

They actually dismantled the iPad and found the small rectangular circuit board almost identical to the ones used in iPhones/iPod-touch series. It's literally JUST an iPod with bigger screen and larger battery.
Massive screen only serves to nullify any advantages of overclocked CPU/GPU making programs at full res slower to run.

at $200 for a netbook with superb specs and capability, a LOT more people can afford one of them mr. jobs

it sucks.

idk, i would just get an ipod touch or something for like half the price.
Also, $500 is not a price that alot of people would want to pay for that.

Can you get that shatter effect on Keynote?
noname1209 2 years ago
did a little googling and didn't come up with much...Steve is known to use features from unreleased iWork apps in his keynote presentations, so if it's NOT available now, it will be in the next version

Thanks!

Slap a touch screen on it and you've got a very nice, very touchable TURD.

hey...i love apple, i mean alot...but this is an all time low and im disappointed...ridiculous

You weren't around in the early 90s when Apple were indeed at an all time low.
noname1209 2 years ago
well...i believe you but that was before we expected things like an imac to come of them...that was when something equal to this bad (in that era), was normal.

ffs, $499 for a device without 3G, and only 16gb of space. This guys having a fracking joke! The damn thing has crap specs, a low res screen, almost no storage.
Give me an EEE PC for £199 its still got more space and power! And I can slap on a touch screen pane if I wanna.

it ndeed has 3g, but still is a waste of money
