I actually thought some episodes by first time abridgers were better than those who had abridged before. I think it's possible... but it's just all up in the air now, nothing to do but wait and see, right?

When's the last time you saw an abridged series by anyone but LK or TFS that wasn't lazily done? Not too often. There's exceptions here and there, but the point is, new abridgers are pretty much not clever. :/
You put it quite well, and you hit the nail on the head for this. And I'm sure we all can agree, hbi2k is quite clever when it comes to these things. Perhaps this might help filter out people that try and make an abridged show on a whim.

my friend and i made an awesome video for this contest but WMM wont save it into a WMV file because its says that the location im saving it so does not exist, the files i used to make the vid do not exist or i dont have enough disk space. we have taken every meassure to try and fix this problem but it just wont work. if anyone knows how to fix it plz contact me with instructions on how to do that plz. at this point we just wanna be able to get it up T_T
make sure the files are in the same spot. u dont wanna be moving them around all over the place especially while editing them. i lost a few good scenes that way..... ne way for disk space try to publish to a flash drive/ DVD. just a few ideas for ya
we tried deleting stuff off the computer, and then tried saving it to the computer, a flashdrive, a CD/DVD, and i had all the things i was using in the same folder, and all it would do is load to 36% and then it would stop and say to make sure the our files, the project, and the location we were saving to still existed, and it would do that no matter what we tried T_T
thats strange. at the risk of losing the project, u could try to publish off of a different computer. moving the files over may be tricky. but its something different.
We'll see if I still have any energy for watching new videos after I'm done working my way through all the entries. (-: I hope you had fun making it, in any case!

I think you should receive a reward for moving so much people. This should definitely proof to others that creating an abridged episode in less then 7 days isn't something just a madman could do, but everyone if they just put in the effort.

It sucks youtube wouldn't accept my video because it was the right format so I'm reconverted it and it still didn't work so I'm going to try one last time and hopefully you will accept it... if not it's fine. I extended the deadline to noon 4/28 because the maintenance caused a lot of people problems in uploading. So if you go ahead and post that video as a response to this one before noon, I'll accept it.
heres a question, youtube is gonna be going into maintenance soon so would it be better try to upload something now or would it be better to take the risk and see if you can still upload videos before 11:59?.......if I upload something now and by the off chance people still are able to upload videos later would I be able to replace it with a slightly extended one as long as its before the limit?

Its too late for me anyways, but yes (to whomever told me to), I typyicaly say to suppor tthe ofical release in order to look profesional but honestly, who has the money? Not to mention HOW do you use DVDs to make abridged series? Seriously...the craziness of getting all that formated is no doubt crazy. I simply find the material online for free (cuz why waste money on what you can get for free ?Especially with how tight money is these days) and then I use Sony Vegas (got for free) and Audacity
Even though its too late, if I ever find episode 1-2..I might just do it anyways because of the sake of having set it up already, I wanna finish wha I started...though it won't win anything, I doubt I would've anyways. Actually, I use AMVApp and VirtualDubMod along with Sony Vegas 7, DVDDecryptor and Goldwave among some other audio recording tools. I bought all my stuff though. I would rather not take the risk. It only takes 5 minutes to compile everything, assuming you did all the scripting right for your video quality. It's not hard, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. Especially if you make a fake AVI to edit with using your DVD's.
Hooray, I actually made the due date, seeing this video the day it was due! Hooray for coincidentally having this done at the same time! It was only made in one week, too!

Abridge is making it shorter while retaining the original content, so you would retain the fact that Gin kicks ass with his wooden sword. The jokes are just added flavor.

The genius of this contest isn't that it might get some more people abridging, and it's not that it points out just how many animes there are out there by pointing out how many just start with G. No, the genius of this contest is it makes a whole bunch of people put up or shut up and makes them appreciate how much hard work goes into producing an abridged series. Well done, HBI2K!
Hm, never thought about it like that. But now that you mention it. It sort of does make me appreciate him, and the roster of TFS. Shit, coming up with jokes that are funny to everybody is hard, a long with editing and all that crap. Now I know why videos are usually delayed. You won't catch me complaining. My only problem I'm facing is the voice actor for the main character is being an asshole and wont record his lines.
He is the only person I know who can pull off a decent David Hayter's Solid Snake voice but refuses to do it. =(
Since my voice is too high I cant do the voice at all so if someone would be kind can they read the 2 pages of dialog I wrote for him? He has the best lines and it sucks that my voice actor is too lazy to say them.
Why did you have to say Gun Sword? I picked Gun Sword over Final Fantasy Unlimited because nobody else was doing it, I own all the DVDs, and Geneon US branch was gone so they unlikely to sue us. I already had scripts for the frist 5 episodes and most of the cast, but then you made this G-abridging contest. Now 6 other people are doing it.

I'm sorry that had to happen to you, really I am. :(. But you shouldn't worry, before Team Four Star came a long there were LOADS of DBZ abridges. But despite that, TFS and Gozar's abridged series are still thriving. Don't worry, if its good, people will pick it over all the other one's regardless. ^_^
I do own the DVDs for Gundam 0083, and I'm not saying this on the behalf of anyone else, but if they don't have the DVDs, you have a leg up on them, You can rip the DVDs easier, and have better quality, with very little to no blocking. All you have to worry about now, is whether or not your jokes are better.
Skyline put it the best, DBZ abridged series are all over, but people like Gozar, Skins, and TFS always get views, not because they were first, but because they are the funniest ones.

It sucks youtube wouldn't accept my video because it was the right format so I'm reconverted it and it still didn't work so I'm going to try one last time and hopefully you will accept it... if not it's fine. There is probably someone better than me anyway I just wanted to see what you would think of mine.

I extended the deadline to noon 4/28 because the maintenance caused a lot of people problems in uploading. So if you go ahead and post that video as a response to this one before noon, I'll accept it.

heres a question, youtube is gonna be going into maintenance soon so would it be better try to upload something now or would it be better to take the risk and see if you can still upload videos before 11:59?.......if I upload something now and by the off chance people still are able to upload videos later would I be able to replace it with a slightly extended one as long as its before the limit?

Its too late for me anyways, but yes (to whomever told me to), I typyicaly say to suppor tthe ofical release in order to look profesional but honestly, who has the money? Not to mention HOW do you use DVDs to make abridged series? Seriously...the craziness of getting all that formated is no doubt crazy. I simply find the material online for free (cuz why waste money on what you can get for free ?Especially with how tight money is these days) and then I use Sony Vegas (got for free) and Audacity

Even though its too late, if I ever find episode 1-2..I might just do it anyways because of the sake of having set it up already, I wanna finish wha I started...though it won't win anything, I doubt I would've anyways. Its more of just good for giving me practice so I can improve. I know one thing for sure: After my crossovers done, I'm so through with having a large cast in a series..its waaay to stressful...

Actually, I use AMVApp and VirtualDubMod along with Sony Vegas 7, DVDDecryptor and Goldwave among some other audio recording tools. I bought all my stuff though. I would rather not take the risk. It only takes 5 minutes to compile everything, assuming you did all the scripting right for your video quality. It's not hard, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. Especially if you make a fake AVI to edit with using your DVD's.

Actually the show is parody.
Parody and Abridged are two different things.
Abridge is making it shorter while retaining the original content, so you would retain the fact that Gin kicks ass with his wooden sword. The jokes are just added flavor.
Parody, poking fun at everything.
Abridged Series take the best of both worlds and smash them together for us to enjoy.

The genius of this contest isn't that it might get some more people abridging, and it's not that it points out just how many animes there are out there by pointing out how many just start with G. No, the genius of this contest is it makes a whole bunch of people put up or shut up and makes them appreciate how much hard work goes into producing an abridged series. Well done, HBI2K!

My only problem I'm facing is the voice actor for the main character is being an asshole and wont record his lines.
He is the only person I know who can pull off a decent David Hayter's Solid Snake voice but refuses to do it. =(
Since my voice is too high I cant do the voice at all so if someone would be kind can they read the 2 pages of dialog I wrote for him? He has the best lines and it sucks that my voice actor is too lazy to say them.

Why did you have to say Gun Sword? I picked Gun Sword over Final Fantasy Unlimited because nobody else was doing it, I own all the DVDs, and Geneon US branch was gone so they unlikely to sue us. I already had scripts for the frist 5 episodes and most of the cast, but then you made this G-abridging contest. Now 6 other people are doing it.
Also, does anyone else legally DVDs for the series the're doing?

But despite that, TFS and Gozar's abridged series are still thriving. Don't worry, if its good, people will pick it over all the other one's regardless. ^_^

I do own the DVDs for Gundam 0083, and I'm not saying this on the behalf of anyone else, but if they don't have the DVDs, you have a leg up on them, You can rip the DVDs easier, and have better quality, with very little to no blocking. All you have to worry about now, is whether or not your jokes are better.
Skyline put it the best, DBZ abridged series are all over, but people like Gozar, Skins, and TFS always get views, not because they were first, but because they are the funniest ones.

However... given the circumstances, I will say this. I do believe that you should rent or borrow a copy from a friend... But hypothetically, if one were to go to animea, that is net, not com, perhaps one would seek what they are looking for. I, of course, am only speaking hypothetically.
... one might have to deal with subs though, but perhaps panning the bottom would, hypothetically, help with that.

Well, considering that the only official release in the U.S. is on Crunchyroll, it really doesn't take much to support it. (-: Unfortunately, yeah, that doesn't really help when it comes to getting a hold of a copy for editing purposes.

I'm almost done with Guyver Dark Hero Abridged episode one. I've been working hard on it and I plan to completely finish the movie. The second episode I already have written some of it and it looks more promising than the first =).
