Just as an FYI for any programmers out there, I am a security guy and even though he calls this encryption it is technically encoding. I have been to businesses where developers try to encode things thinking it is secure but it is not. As a hacker if you use this method to secure your data traveling over wire there are easy algorithms to find out this is encoding and reverse it. So good to learn just don't try to implement this for a business for security.
Don't worry about learning how to write your own encryption. What you want to learn how to do is use current encryption standards like SSL or IPSEC for network or MD5 or sha1 for local password encryption.
Most the people writing all the encryption standard spend years and years studying mathmatics.
is there a big difference between the pdf version of "the art and sience of java" book and the full original version? Will i be able to complete the course and understand all the details with the pdf preliminary draft of the book, or will i miss alot of detail if i don't read the final example of the book?
Does he ever move the course away from the acm libraries? I'd like to know how to make java programs from scratch as opposed to relying on a library that I won't always be able to use (like during competitions and such).
i don't think thats a part of the java course. Maybe, i'm not sure, it comes with one of the other courses, because there are other programming courses with something else. Don't know exactly what

Thanks for this info.
I would like to find more encryption and encoding schemes for programmers. I guess I've yet to get that far.

Years on mathematics wow.
I'm familiar with SSL, MD5 a bit. Thanks I'll look into that when I'm ready for encryption.

I need to brushing up on my math.
Can any one answer why negative negative 3 = positive 3?
I know when you do multiplication two negatives are a positive but isn't this subtraction? or is it because of the modulus?
yasuodances 1 year ago
Aight i figured it out. Two negatives make a positive with unary operators.
yasuodances 1 year ago
@yasuodances
You have to see it like this (-1)*(-1)*3 = 3

Thanks.
I had to go back to some basic math and I see clearly now.

Mehran is a great teacher, but I wish he wouldn't speak so fast some times.
I could keep up with everything except talking about negative keys along with modulus.
