When I listen to this song, I close my eyes and envision myself blazing down a forbidden trail, mounted on a stallion, galloping and storming straight out of the deepest levels of hell. The sky is on fire and embers pervade the air, I am being persecuted by a army of banshees and wild inhabitants with arrows and stones. Everything around me is collapsing, even the mountains, but my horse still continues to gallop with feverish steps. I just went somewhere, all thanks to Sir Dick Dale.
Interestingly .. DD has a Lebanese ancestry .. altho having been born & raised, of course, in Sthn Calif, the heart of original surf / hot-rod land. But, I often notice that very distinctive 'Middle Eastern' style / genre coming out in his music .. so distinctive of his ancestry & that part of the world - particularly in the melodies & chord changes. I never fail to be astounded by Dick's ability & innate talent in having been able to combine both of these musical influences so well.
@colindominy Especially with dick dales misirlou, which originated as a trkish greek made folksong. It had roots all the way back to 1927 in the ottoman empire being played as the Arabian type of music.
@TheDonutFox : thank you very much for your most interesting comment & info. PS - I spent a good deal of time in the Mediterranean Region .. way back in 1986 .. & I just loved it. What a knockout experience it was for me. I'm an Aussie, and the Greeks & the Turks (ah, the Turks ...) could not have extended more of a welcome, plus the most enchanting hospitality on the planet, I reckon. Been far too long since then .. I must begin plans for a great big return-visit. Thanks again, take care !!
@colindominy I love the Mediterranean region, the food, the people, theyre all extremely kind and it was a delightful experience for me. Im glad you had a great time too!

100th like, wooooooo! The original guitar master way before Tom Morello came along. but, i'm sure Morello was influenced by double D.
Kumomoto 9 months ago
@Kumomoto I'd say Morello was more influenced by Hendrix and Jimmy Page, but Dale and Morello are both guitar gods.
