  • fantastic!!! step into a fantasy

  • One of my favourite songs ever ! Epic !

  • Great piece! I remember this one from high school, thanks for posting.

  • Late one night during a rainstorm, I was driving along a deserted city street, seeking a coffee shop. The tshhh-tshhh-tshhh of the windshield wipers in the darkness had an almost hypnotic effect. Suddenly, "Island" came on radio. It seemed as though the piece was written for the mood. When I found a coffee shop, I phoned the station to learn the piece was called "Island" by Art of Noise. I bought the album. "Island" is a real mood piece...gives one a sort of etherial experience. Terrific!

  • @PokeyGreen What a great story. That's the best way to discover new music I think.

  • @EdEditz Thanks for your comment. I went to your site and wow--what a collection of interesting stuff!

  • @PokeyGreen Thank you! I'm glad you like my work :)

  • Very precise piano there.......Who,s the Pianist ?

  • @ORDOVIC It's Anne Dudley from the Art of Noise. She's been trained as a classical pianist.

  • @EdEditz ..Thank you for your reply.......I will have to look out for more of the lady,s work

    Very talented person

  • @ORDOVIC Anne Dudley [who is a classically trained and educated concert pianist] usually did piano/keyboards for Art of Noise.

  • great composition grande raffy

  • I don't know how it affects others, but this song and video transports my mind to a warm beach somewhere in paradise. It helps me momentarily forget that I'm suffering through my last stinking winter up here in New England.

  • @wiseroldfart: Best description of that sound I've ever heard! Wish that music had been around in the winter of 1959, when I was a young sailor freezing his ass off on a ship in Newport, R.I. ( I'm now an old fart sunning myself in Southern California.)

  • @PokeyGreen Thank you. Wish I found it long ago. My cold winters are done. I'm retiring next month. Florida, here I come!

  • Great sound and great video. The girl is gorgeous!

  • Is this an official video?

If not - it's incredible operators job!

  • @wcrocodile Thank you. I made this video myself although I didn't film the footage of the girl. I just edited it to the music.

  • a of noise master of ambient music ..they give a soul to their machines

  • This is like having an instant vacation!

  • First got introduced to this song by a friend fifteen years ago when i was 14 years of age. I felt in love with the ethereal and ambient sound. I never got to ask her what it was but i remembered it resonating deeply within me. After all this years, it has accompanied me on various highlights in my life, constantly orchestrating it's luscious harmonies within my mind. I hoped that one day we would be reunited again, and today was the day when i heard a friend play it at his shop. :)

  • wish u didnt have that wack looking female in the visuals

  • I cant tell you how much I love this song, its perfect for chillin to, thanks for posting

  • @paladin696969 I couldn't agree more :) And you're welcome.

  • that s Robinson Crusoe, not island!

  • Nope it *is* "Island".

"Robinson Crusoe" is indeed similar (sort of a reprise of "Island"), but the track here is "Island".

  • Thanks for the info

    i did not nottice . . .!!

  • at 2:12, it begins to sound like dreamy stylized love.

like i've heard it in some 1960's movie soundtrack..

wish i could be musically inclined.

  • lush. If she's got a man friday can i do his job the rest of the week :)

  • Anne Dudley is really doing her thing on those 88 keys i always loved her piano playing she kills it fa sho

  • OMG and I thought I was still the only one, still enjoy all their albums :o)

  • Eeh .Tu vas nous mettre la trique!!!

  • I love this music.

For anyone interested, this was inspired by a piece of music by Robert Mellin and Gian-Piero Reverberi, generations of school children will recognise as the theme of "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" (1964). It is an original work but is clearly takes its inspiration from it.

Indeed this music was released on the same album (Ambient Collection) as "Robinson", a wonderful homage to that work.

  • oh...just to add...

"Island" has also been broadcast as a video segment by Channel 4 UK as part of the "Art of Landscape" ambient television series (AoL formerly a cable channel broadcasting relaxing music videos).

  • Ah that explains the title. I never knew that before. Thank you for the background information.

  • .....sublime ce morceau,un grand moment d'évasion...

  • I love this song since the first time I ever heard it. Totally different and wonderful, full of magic.

  • I didn't think there were so much "Art of Noise" fans.

  • Were out there alright. Would love to see them live.

  • It's a one of the best song that I ever listened. I love Art of Noise.

  • Thanks! I agree totally :)

  • This is one of their songs that really let's Anne Dudley classical training come out. Still a bit of "techno beat machine" to it, but more symphonic than most of their stuff. less "dance" type.

  • True. I love the pianoplaying.

  • It's not even their best album. The three that went before it are all better I think. I've been a fan since they started out in 1983 with 'Close to the Edit'. Try the albums 'Daft' 'In no sense nonsense' and 'In Visible Silence'. Songs like 'Ode to Don Jose', 'Crusoe', 'Camilla, the old old story' and 'three fingers of love' are just awesome.

  • I first heard of Art of Noise in the early 90's watching the European Figure Skating Championships. The German Pairs used this music and I was mesmerized by their performance and the synchronization to this amazing music. I rushed out to buy Below the Waste and the whole album is a classicC

  • i mean the atmosphere is like 80´s and beginning of 90´s its great. thanks for posting

  • but the ambient of the video is from last year?

  • I don't know what you mean by 'ambient of the video'. It's not the official video for this song. I don't think this song has an official video so I made one myself.

  • what is the year of this video? nice ambient and beautiful track

  • I made the video last year but the song is from 1989.

  • Never knew that there was a video for this song . . .

  • You're right, there isn't. I made this video myself (well, I didn't actually film it but you know, I put it together).

    [EddyBergman aka Raffy2006]

  • this song is one of my faves, the art of noise rules

  • отличная картинка и прекрасная музыка!!!

  • If ever there was a heaven ...
